Shamima Begum: ISIS Bride's Fate Hangs In Balance: Citizenship Appeal Decision Imminent

2024 ж. 22 Ақп.

In a highly controversial case, Shamima Begum, a British citizen who travelled to Syria at the age of 15 in 2015, is awaiting the outcome of her appeal against the removal of her British citizenship. The decision, which will be made tomorrow, has sparked a heated debate on whether Begum should be allowed to return to the UK and face the consequences of her actions.
Filmmaker and author Andrew Drury, who has interviewed Begum multiple times, and human rights lawyer Shoaib Khann, specializing in asylum and immigration-related cases, shared their perspectives on the case. Drury initially felt sympathy for Begum, describing her as apologetic and scared when he first met her. However, over time, he claims that her character changed, and she started to manipulate him for her own benefit.
Drury argues that Begum made a conscious decision to join an illegal organization and renounce her British citizenship. He believes that she should not be allowed to return to the UK and should face justice for her actions. On the other hand, Khan opposes the revocation of citizenship in principle and believes that Begum, as a British-born individual, should be punished under the UK judicial system if she has committed a crime.
The discussion also touched upon the age of criminal responsibility and whether Begum, who was 15 at the time of her actions, should be held accountable for her choices. Khan emphasized that even though Begum was above the age of criminal responsibility, the punishment for crimes committed as a child should be different from that of an adult.

More immigration, more ignoring British born people and diluting the more 'native' British vote, more foreign criminals taking our houses and money, virtually no deportations and no quality control on immigration, more woke crud, entertaining a different law system for certain cultures and blatant double standards, more debt and spending, more indoctrination for the kids and drag queens in the schools, more 'climate crisis' driving working families bills up? The political class and a tiny band of special interests have ruined the nation, made most of us poorer and constantly put their idealisms over and above pragmatism, decency, finances and self reliance.
