Vernon was born with glaucoma. He could see reasonably well before he lost his sight and underwent 16 operations before turning 5. Watch his heartwarming rendition of One Direction's 'Story of My Life'.

    • Yeah he would. He has to see his dad be blind every day. To have his dad not see his sons face and see the one you love go through that will bring out a lot of emotion. So he connected with him on a deeper level due to his dad being blind. I saw what my friend had to go through. To see a person for who could see for 17 years lose her eyes sight to a drunk driver while walking to school was soul crushingly painful. A person who was this strong willed person spiral into depression because she felt like her dignity was stripped from her.

    • Homer Simpson Wow WHAT A CRUEL N HEARTLESS THING TO SAY ABOUT THE JUDGE. He wasn't drawing attention to himself, he was asking the crowd to cheer so Vernon could hear their reaction n he too feels the pain of this young man. You really need to respect others n show love not hate. What if that was your loved one up on stage singing n the judge did the same, would you still be as cold n heartless as you are now. So sad
