  • when welded my Uncle Al ladder dies to the carrier plates, I discovered that if you get get the top die welded right, then the rest is easy.

  • Good video. I had no idea what a butcher die was. I went right to food. Lol. Chubby kid in me never dies.

    • Hahaha. I completely get that.

    • @@Hathenbrucksteelworks also I want to make squaring dies. I have something I can use as a plate and I have some angle iron that I think will work. Have you ever used angle iron for squaring dies? Don't want to waste my time if it's going to be a for sure failure. Thanks

    • I used angle iron for mine, but I also used square bar to support the sides of the angle iron. Not sure if it was needed, but I used it anyway. I just cut the square bar in half to make two triangles.

  • late on this one, nice build and easy to follow and understand, mind not got a press so not likely to make them for a long time yet, and have to say the only rubbish weld is one that fails, grotty can be easily fixed like you did lol

    • Hahaha. You have a great point about the welds. Maybe I need to make a video on building these tools for an anvil hardy hole.

  • Next on my list to make. Pressing in shoulders with just the flats leaves so much to grind and file later, hoping this changes that. Thanks for the idea. Have you found any other uses? (though that alone seems plenty useful enough for me to make)

    • They worth having 😁. For knife making, this is pretty much the only reason I have them.

  • Have you tried making the punch set for the coal forge 12 ton? I've been contemplating giving it a try.

    • I haven’t yet, but it’s something I want to do. It looks like it wouldn’t be too hard to make. If you make it, let me know how it goes.

  • thanks for the walkthrough, very helpful. i'm curious how you align round dies like your fullering dies? in that case you can't use the press to hold the dies in place while you weld, correct?

    @unkyherbalicious@unkyherbalicious Жыл бұрын
    • Hey. Thank you! Dies with round material are a little more tricky, but I was able to still clamp mine down with the press. If you make a small flat on the plate side of the round material, they tend to stay a little better. I used pliers to hold the material while I was aligning things, so I could keep my fingers away from danger.

  • What steel re you using?

    @bohurley8626@bohurley8626Ай бұрын
    • Just mild steel.

    • And it holds up ok? I need to make some more dies fir the 16 ton I got but like you mentioned, it's hard to justify spending 300 on somthing I can make for 20 buck! I just wasn't sure mild would hold up well enough

      @bohurley8626@bohurley8626Ай бұрын
    • Absolutely! It’s very hard to justify. But yeah, they’ve held up just as well as the H13 dies they make. Actually, my only dies that need to be reworked are a the flat dies that it came with. In all fairness, I do use those the most.
