Hello! We live in Japan with two Asian Small-Clawed Otters.
Kotaro: Male, DOB 11/10/2017
Kotaro has a scar on his tail from being bitten by another otter when he was still a baby.
Hana: Female, DOB 11/24/2018
They have been toilet trained; they use a special pad that is designed for small dogs.
Since I'm using a translation function, my sentences might come out strange.
Please provide me with corrections if anything is translated improperly.

  • I just realized why I love your otter babies so much. They never get older. They remain like small children, toddlers. I love to watch them. My baby is 42 years old now, so it is especially nice to watch them. Thank you for taking such good care of them! ❤

  • 4:22 , After learning Kotaro's eating habit, one wet one dry, I can see that it really is true. He accidentally puts 2 inside the bowl and eats them right after the other, later compensating with two dry ones, so intelligent. 😅

    • yeah he's super smart but isn't the kibble a sign of him being obsessive compulsive? he seems very neurotic, it's adorable but probably not so much in a human.

    • @@jp-sn6si i'd say it's preference + habit/ routine + calculative. Even some humans like specific ordering and methods but not compulsively, and may not want to try changing what already feels best. Maybe Kotaro just likes enough moisture with his food, so if he eats too many dry ones too early, he fixes that with more water.

  • Kotaro and Hana was the first otter channel I found on youtube and I was smitten immediately after the first video. I never knew that otters could live with human and have lots of personality. After that I have found and fallen in love with many others but kotaro and Hana will always be the first to introduce me to the otter world and I am thankful for that.   • This channel and these creatures bring such joy and genuine laughter. Thank you for sharing and posting their playful personalities. I love their sounds and antics. I wonder how they use the bathroom. Are they litter trained like cats, toilet trained like people, or take walks like dogs?

    • They use a toilet box with pads that can be removed and discarded. The family puts diapers in front of the box to clean the otters' feet in case they happen to step in feces or urine while using the box. As otter waste products can have a strong odor the plastic waste box is easy to clean frequently with water and soap. Hope this helps!
