TRAIN DRIVER'S VIEW: Voss - Ål the swan song of the Class 69

Better late than never. Even though it's like three months since this was recorded, KZhead finally managed to get it pass the 360p point. Think I might have uploaded this video every 1 1/2 week to see if it would get pass the barrier.
Anyways, this trip markes the last time I will be working on a Class 69 as they now have all been replaced with Stadler FLIRT Class 74.
The Class 69 has been NSB's workhorse since 1971 and has been long over due for replacement. When trains get old the parts get harder to come by. Some of the parts on the Class 69 are so vintage that they're impossible to come by. Now these old buggers will go back to Oslo where their fate either will be decommission, serving as spare parts or sold off to private companies. Two of the trains we had have been reduced to two carriages instead of three and sold to Sweden and a couple has been sold to a company called Artic Train.
The trip today goes to Ål where I will do the exchange with Class 75.
Enjoy!

  • Japan Rail dedicated one of its N500 units to depict a " Hello Kitty " theme, complete with a pink and white exterior paint scheme and large Hello Kitty graphics inside and out. Now, with that in mind, I believe that NSB should allow you to place your logo ( approx. a meter in diameter with " Hindu Cow Girl " sub-text ) on the sides of the loco just behind the left and right side windows over the white color field. After all, for all the free promotional presentations you provide to us, it's the least they could do !

  • While modern trains are no doubt better in every way, it's always a sad day when old rolling stock comes to the end of its service life. I still remember when BR removed our old slam door, first-generation EMUs from service at the end of the '90s. In many ways these old trains had a character all of their own which they displayed through numerous creaks, groans and squeaks and in the case of our old British units, the unmistakable sound of their ticking compressors and the resultant clinking as they cooled down... Anyway, another great video HCG :)

    • Dear Drummer Norman: This has already been done -- somewhere in one or two of the posted videos from a year or so ago there's station and tunnel info that HCG included. There is also in the comment section of one of these earlier videos a complete list of stations. I don't remember which ones, alas, because there is such a volume already that we need a catalog. How about 'HCG Opus #7 in C, the "NSB Waltz"' so we can find things?

    • @@RailCowGirl Thank you for the prompt reply. Yes, I have seen videos of yours where you do stop at different stations on the same route. Excellent channel you have created here, thank you. Norman.

  • When you do a run like this, are there any other crew members aboard or just you and the train?

    @davidrumolo422@davidrumolo4225 жыл бұрын

  • What do they call the landscape when you are going through all of the tunnels? I think tundra and that doesn't seem right but I see no trees and it has a desolate feel to it...long stretches of rugged rubble and mounds big and small. A most incredible landscape. Do they call it alpine?

    @maru9517@maru95175 жыл бұрын
    • It's called "high mountain", Høyfjellet. The trees stop growing at about 1000m above sea level.. well, now it is almost 1200 above sea level due to climate changes.

    • I wish we could go down there it’s part of the old Hardanger Line that went all the way to Granvin. Now the track’s been removed. :/ You can read more about it here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardanger_Line
