You see the curve of the conduit has to match the the rotation on the bore welder. It also makes a difference If you're pulling off the top of the roll or off the bottom of the roll of wire. Like I said my wire feeders a little different and I pull off the bottom of it. So therefore I have to go to the right into the bore welder and have the bore welder rotate right. You don't want to unbend the Natural curve of the welding wire when ots inside the conduit If you can help it. What you can do is pull out about 10 ft of wire out of your wire feeder and see which way the wire flips over. It should flip over in the direction of your bore welder or point to your bore welder I mean
@bobtrailers456123 күн бұрын
عمل رائع 👏 جدا شكرا لك
@sadem1811Ай бұрын
Don't know if any of that wire flip stuff makes sense to you, but when it welds up one bore completely fine and then you move over to another bore and the wire flip is completely terrible, you'll ask yourself why. And the reason is it's because you moved your wire feeder in a different spot relative to the bore welder. And once you find out where that spot is where there is no flip, that is where the wire feeder sits every single time it'll never change.
@bobtrailers456123 күн бұрын

Wire flip isn't fun. Be behind your bore welder looking at it, have the bore welder rotating clockwise, then have the wire feeding conduit come out and go to your right And make a right angle to your bore welder. And have the wire feeder conduit up about level with the bore welder. It only took me 15 years to figure that out. But it does talk about it in the book as well. You might have to try a different configuration on where your wire feeder is sitting, but that's what worked for me. my wire feeder is a little different,

Very nice! From your videos I understand how line boring works in general, but it's still a total miracle to me that it works in practice - over time you've shown some parts that looked like you should have been able to get anything centered on them with how chewed up they were. A few questions if you don't mind: Did the suspected crack in the smaller bore turn out not to be a crack, or did it cut out just fine? Did you have to run dye on it? Hand-welding the last part of the oval was likely because cutting it out and welding it all back up all around the ID would take a lot more time and wire than pulling out the bar and doing it just in that spot? And that's a big chunk of metal, I'm sure Cat would love to sell the customer a new one, and the customer has thoughts about that idea! haha
@2xKTfcАй бұрын
The crack turned out to be a scratch. Yes, hand welding that part saved probably 2 passes with the bore welder which is about 2 hours.

Awesome job like usual An adjustment screw on the backside of the cutter,sure would make things easier for fine adjustments and then use a set screw to clamp it On side note Greg, do you have preference with Miller welders over Lincoln and others? My very first welder was an old,old Hobart gas and that thing was slick, except for the carburetor 😂

Not yet but I will be making one soon.
And that's a big chunk of metal, I'm sure Cat would love to sell the customer a new one, and the customer has thoughts about that idea! haha
The crack turned out to be a scratch. Yes, hand welding that part saved probably 2 passes with the bore welder which is about 2 hours.
How has the SPower unit worked out? I’m curious on purchasing one
Haven’t used it yet. But there will be a video soon.
I’m wondering, to get the alignment cones even further from the damaged area, couldn’t you have setup on the inside of both faces, where the damage is minimal?
Yes, you can do that.
There was a long distance between a very small error would be huge on the other end. I thought the same thing tho.
So what material are those boring tips that's use to scrap away the metal made out of? That has to be insanely tough stuff.
Carbide. It’s some amazing stuff.
I didn't realize you can make such a heavy cut on your cleaning cut.
The clamp-on digital height gauge for measuring the tool stick out on the line-boring machine is really cool. Is it something you assembled yourself from a bunch of parts? Or is it a standard tool that is available in the industry, as I have never seen one before :)
Climax sells this one. But I don’t think it would be difficult to make.
@@OFW Thanks :) I've seen 'stick out' measured a few different ways for line-boring, but I've not seen anything as easy to use, or as professional looking as that set-up you have.
Actually this bar is threaded for doing just that, the problem is having the correct length cutter so it all works. I don’t like cutting them down.
I have always liked Miller, I have tried Lincoln a few times with terrible results. So I just stick to Miller.
I have a Miller Regency 250 and a Syncrowave 300 from the 80's that I use as a serious hobbyist . I purchased them both in 95 for under 2k and still use them and never had a break down once. I think that should tell you alot about Miller welders.🍻
So it appears the set up for your line borer is longer and more complicated that say CEE’s. I assume there are many machines to choose from. Is there a reason you chose this one? Great work as always! Thanks for all you do!
It’s really not bad. It is more “complicated“ but has more adjustability. There are about 5 top manufacturers in the world to choose from. I chose this one for the options they offer and they have great customer service.
👌🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Nice video.. what brand is that stick out tool?
Climax.
how often would you reckon you would need to true the boring bar when it wears?
I haven’t needed to do that yet. I think if it got bad enough I would probably just buy a new one. They are not terribly expensive in my opinion.
how long have you been using the same one?@@OFW
About 3 years
I was hoping to see the new S Power system in use. Is that only for field work?
I didn’t have enough bearings for the S power. But I should have a video on that soon.
I highly recommend the Metabo Tapper GB 18 LTX BL Q I (602362840) CORDLESS TAPPER. I drill hundreds of taps a day and couldn’t live without this tool. Kinda pricey but not compared to similar. Thank you for the fantastic depth explanation. That did not look like a cheap tool either ;-) .
Thank you, I will definitely check those out.
Have you ever looked into getting a face cutting tool? I've never seen you use one. Sir Meccanica has one that Cutting Edge showed today. Everything about the tool path is proper.
Yes, I have one and I believe I have 3 videos with me using it. The new S power also has a facing tool.
Where ypower machine ? Congratulation
have you tried your other line boring kit ? how is compared to a climax
Not yet. Coming soon.
Instead of a flapper wheel have you tried a cylinder hone?
Yes, I have.
Where did you get the tool measuring caliper
Climax.
@@OFW thank you
Is there a limit to how many times you can weld up and recut such openings? Thumbs Up!
Technically no.
When it starts to chatter on the faces usually the cutter speed is too fast,or tool out too far,or too much cutter contact.
have you done a job with the s power set up yet
No, but soon.
@@OFW superb looking forward to your thoughts on it I have 2 of them
Did that ever get any grease?
Probably got a few squirts when it was brand new.
