  • Superb conversation. Nothing is right or wrong. What matters is that people should have the freedom to have their distinct/unique opinions about anything & everything. Both these legends (Vir Sanghvi, Barkha Dutt) studied from top universities in UK/USA (Oxford University, Columbia University). Today I pray to God that, I pursue an MBA program from a top B-School in USA/UK starting fall of 2024. I have always admired the work (columns, editorials, etc.) of both these journalists. Whether biased or not, both of them have this extraordinary ability to convey things (from their perspective). I think that's what truly matters. Even the best of humans, become biased at times. That's why we are humans (not God).

    • Rohitji, there is right and wrong. Human languages and communication is based on perspectives (परिप्रेक्ष्य). The word ‘right’ exists for a purpose. Our scriptures describes 3 types of opinions - 1.श्रीमत (opinion of the supreme ie absolute truth) 2. मनमत (human perspectives) and 3. परमत (everyone’s opinion). However, an expert opinion of a human-being based on sound reasoning is significantly better than WhatsApp Uni opinion, a mix of मनमत एंड परमत. This just my humble opinion!

Of course they will show bias towards the idea that they have formed about this present govt n PM. For these two, would be a great shock if they talk how the lives of people, expansion of infrastructure, cutting down of centre govt corruption etc compared to Congress govt time.

I agree with Ms Barkha Dutt. Mr Sanghvi should start his own podcast on what makes India enduring. I am sure he will interest a lot of people. India should stick to pluralism. Tamils constituted less than 15% of Sri Lanka and look what happened there when the Sinhalese imposed a majoritarian rule.

  • It is such a rare treat to hear a journalist speak his mind objectively without trying to toe some secret laxman rekha at best or dancing to the tunes of an invisible madari.

  • What happened during Indira Gandhi can't be compared today. We have evolved over 45 years. Let's not forget growth during Manmohan Singh. Evolution is a part of any party. Rite now, we are standing in the same situation during times of global civilization!

  • 1. Access to sources definitely makes the life of a journalist much more bearable, but I have been brought up in the belief ideally, they should not have any friends. It has been said cultivation of loneliness and meritocracy is the keystone of journalistic success. 2. Although politicians would always try to give some ideological gloss on anything and everything under the sun, but after all is said and done a government in power is essentially nothing if not a service provider. So, it stands to reason that they should be judged first and foremost on issues uncluttered by dogmas.

  • I differ a bit ...I think earlier also journalist and channels used to push their ideology / political agenda . But the difference between then and now is earlier there was only one party / ideology which was ruling India. Now we have other ideologies / parties which are powerful also to push back. And we have Social Media which has increased the reach to the common man. Hence we the common people is able to see / hear both sections
