  • Eddie didn't turn into an introvert. He has always been one. Sometimes some of the greats are dynamic on stage but very shy off stage. Michael Jackson, Prince, Eddie Murphy etc.

    • @@LordeMarsh Yes this is how I see it too. Anyone who remembers Eddie Murphy in the 80s remembers that he was hardly shy or introverted. We heard stories that he was his high school class clown and teachers would ask him to tell them jokes....Eddie has definitely changed, and it’s not all because he was young back then and older now.

At this point, Eddie doesn't have to be funny anymore, he spent so many years entertaining us so he can relax now and do his other passions. Chris Rock did great with this tribute.

  • The whole reason I watched the SNL reunion was to see my favorite performers on that stage again do their thing just one last time. I wanted Mr. Robinson, I wanted the Church Lady, I wanted Baba Wawa. I wanted Pat and the Sweeny Sisters and Gerald Ford....but with very few exceptions...that didn't happen. Murphy probably hasn't thought about Mr. Robsinon's Neighborhood or Gumby or Buckwheat in 30 years. Instead of trying to entertain us in a way that he no longer does, he instead accepted the love of the audience....and they rose to their feel before he said even one word. I found myself rising off the couch and clapping too...and then felt a bit silly as I was in my own living room alone. I don't think anyone else got that kind of applause, except when they paid tribute to the ones who had passed on. Eddie Murphy will always be one of my favorites, even if doesn't do it anymore...he once did...and that is good enough for me.

  • Hrmm.. Why the big headlines everywhere saying Eddie can't be funny anymore,.. how awkward it was, etc etc. ? -- He wasn't trying to do standup here, he was being honored among many others and he just expressed his appreciation. Eddie Murphy is the godfather of our time (still living) of Comedy. Most comedians in the US will say Eddie Murphy was a big influence in their careers. Why Eddie has chosen to not perform standup for so long I have no clue. He's a very rich man, and highly intelligent. I think he's just enjoyed a "normal" life with money at this point. But, make no doubt about it.. Eddie murphy is 1st) A genius writer of comedy.. and 2) A natural phenomena of standup (conveying his material). You can give two different people the same exact material and one can bomb and the other have a standing ovation. One thing is for sure -- Eddie murphy found the fountain of youth somewhere a loooong time ago. He looks like he's aging at about 1 year per 5! I did read a while back that Eddie has been writing all these years and plans on doing standup at some point in the future. He has 8 (EIGHT) Kids.. The youngest born in 2007. The next youngest in 2002. I would guess he would go back to some standup when his 2002 kid who is 13 ish now gets just a little older. And definitely do it when all of his kids are out of the house. He's 53 now.. So has , in the comedy world, 15-20 years left (maybe more considering how well he's been aging lol). So I think he will do at least 1 comedy tour in his lifetime.. and maybe do more if he really enjoys it.

  • GREAT tribute to the mult- talented Eddie murphy by the always funny Chris rock!!! I'll never forget how Eddie took me and the world by storm when he first came out several years ago. First coming to prominence on career launching Saturday night live and then skyrocketing to superstardom by starting his incredible movie career with the huge classic 48hrs! Chris rock's admiration and respect for Eddie murphy has always been very well received by me and im very positive by the rest of the world. Always great to see that a huge comedy legend like Chris rock has not forgotten another huge comedy legend like Eddie. Eddie always shared his MARVELOUS talent with the world which will always deserve a state of the art tribute like the one Chris rock gave here.

  • It is a anti-climax Eddie Murphy didn't perform anything, but he was the guy who saved the show getting axed. I'm just surprised there was no mention of Richard Pryor. Who was on the early shows and is seen as the greatest comic ever.

  • For all of those calling this awkward...after you have created a 40+ year career, made millions, and cemented yourself as one of the best comedians in history only then do you have the right to criticize. Until then to steal a line from Eddie Murphy, "Have a Coke and a smile and shut the f#ck up!"

And it hasn't beem duplicated since, nobody says So and so is the next Chris Rock? The next Kevin Hart... They keep referring to Eddie Murphy, another great comedic legend 👏👏👏

He changed the scenery, better Thank you, Eddie!!! I watched the timeline of SNL, on Netflix (?). Before Eddie, it was redundant n I just stared blankly.
