  • Think about it: Egon confronted the problem all on his own, knowing that his friends and family hated him. Then when his plan failed? He did what he could to keep the problem from getting bigger - at least for a little while - then sat down and awaited his inevitable death. Egon truly was the BEST Ghostbuster, period.

    • I don't think he realised they literally hated them (and I don't think they did, so much as give up on caring). The whole point of learning about his real life (and the introduction of Janine explaining she had to look after stuff like finances and making sure the place sitll had power) was that he was hyper-focused on trying to save the world with very few resources. He was oblivious to all other things, because they must have felt trivial by comparison. It was probably only in the afterlife that he realised how neglecting the other stuff had cost him in emotional bonding. His granddaughter having autistic traits implied inability to focus on more than work/science-related stuff was a flaw. Which was also evident in the original film, where he wasn't seeming to pick up on Janine's cues of attraction.

Only thing I must be missing at the end when all the traps light up wouldnt he be sucked up to before the reunion? I still loved it. Finally the movie we've been waiting for made like a real movie. Practical effects and a heavy use of psychical props along with real sets, good acting and not a dance scene in sight. I just wish they had Phoebe say when leading the team and coming into her own "IM A SPENGLER" instead of "I'm a scientist".

  • I was thinking about it earlier, how this movie was not only a perfect sequel, but also an absolute love letter to '80's movies in general. It nails so many tropes of '80's movies, and does them so damn well. It was masterfully crafted how it gave us this intense opening scene, laid out the several set pieces we'd visit later on, and the absolute mystery of what's going on. It is incredibly well-produced! I think my only gripe with the movie was that Wal-Mart looked incredibly unrealistic; no crazy people, no items misplaced on shelves, it looked way too clean, and the parking lot would have had more shopping carts strewn about.

  • A few things I noticed: first off, when the terror dog walks towards Egon outside, you only see two sets of paws side by side when they imprint on the ground. Then later when it appears behind him in the chair, it's standing on two legs. So this tells me that it was a Sentinel Terror Dog that attacked him. (The reason why I know it was a Sentinel Terror Dog is that one came out in the *_Afterlife_* Plasma Series wave as the build-a-figure.) And BTW, my theory is that Egon did suffer a heart attack and died immediately after the attempted kidnapping, but just before that, he shocked it with the PKE Shocker, scaring it off, and that's what that "whining" sound was - the creature getting shocked and leaving out of fear.

    • couldnt agree more. i made it into a proper movie viewing on my giant 77 inch LG 4k OLED in HDR and fired up my Denon 13.2 dolby atmos surround receiver. got the buttered popcorn, fresca, and some other munchies for the 2 hour movie and perfectly positioned the recliner. i even watched a few trailers just to get that movie theater experience. not one hickup on the 4k stream.

    • @@BobRooney290 Awesome! Did you turn the lights off as well? I find that watching in pitch darkness adds to the movie theater experience but the brightness of the HDR can cause a bit of eyestrain so I sometimes have a bit of ambient light. CES 2022 just showcased a Samsung MicroLED TV (where each pixel is self-emissive) with 2000 nits peak brightness - I'm very excited for this as we finally get the best of both worlds - deep blacks like OLED and peak brightness like QLED - plus no burn-in!

    • @@adrianspeeder DVD's are great. They are only barely DRM'd, in a static way, so you don't have to worry about losing them when the standard inevitably dies, and eventual AI-driven upscaling should make them the equal of Blu-Ray, which have DRM that changes and could leave you one day holding a fancy coaster. (Unless you want to crack the thing, and bring the weight of the DMCA down upon your head.) Digital download isn't protected by the doctrine of "Right of First Sale", and so is right out. It is, essentially, a lifetime rental, not a purchase. I, too, will wait for the disc. The DVD release, to be specific.

Movies that aren't one chase or fight scene after another. Movies that have fantastic characters and discovery. Movies where people love each other, but its not an excuse to get to the sex scene. McKenna grace absolutely deserves an acting award for her performance. Its evident that the entire cast and crew just wanted to service the film. So glad I saw it in the theater.
