Twenty years on from Croatia first taking the FIFA World Cup™ by storm, Zlatko Dalic's team booked the country's place in the semi-finals for the second time in their history.
Having emerged victorious on penalties after a gruelling encounter, the Balkan side also got a monkey off their back by ending their hoodoo against World Cup hosts, having been knocked out by France in 1998 and lost to Brazil in the Opening Match of the 2014 edition.

  • Russia should be very proud of the fact that they made the 2018 World cup one of the best ever. Great host, amazing stadiums and a wonderful place to host a mega huge and world class event. 👍.Russia was no pushover in this match , they scored the first goal and also scored the equalizer when they were down 2-1 by Croatia. I cant imagine the intense pressure of the Russian players as the entire stadium is filled with local supporters. And for penalty kicks, its always a 50/50 chance. Having said that, Congrats to the people of Croatia, u did outstandingly well under pressure. Well done !!👏👏

  • I am now supporting Croatia. They slavs are really close to us in mentality - no dirty tricks on field, respect to the opponent and fight to the end. When we pushed them they pushed back not giving us a chance - it's not usual for most of teams. Much respect to Subasic for staying in the ranks with the injury.   • This is my personal favorite match in the entire tournament. Even a film scriptwriter wouldn't come up with a storyline this dramatic and surreal. Respect to both teams. Russia came into this tournament as the underdog but displayed astonishing resilience and determination. Hope this would be a start of the revival of Russian football.
