  • I love how you subverted the typical formula of the Deaf character being the one crushing on the hearing person. At first I was worried that it was going to be just another lukewarm cliché. When it became clear that it was the guy who was Deaf and the girl was pursuing him, it honestly flipped the script for me. As a Deaf person, that seemingly small detail means a lot. It's rare that we're depicted as desirable outside our own community, without it becoming some kind of overzealous parable about acceptance. So thank you for your work, and thank you for sharing!

So many people would love to be able to communicate with sign but schools choose to teach Spanish instead 🙄 I used it a lot with one of my students who was not deaf but couldn't speak. Its definitely a use it lose it skill unfortunately

    • I'm autistic (high functioning autism/Asperger) and I know the feeling. Abled people suck and if you're different from them they see you as undesirable. Personally, I find deaf people interesting because of the sign languages (sooner or later I'm gonna learn at least one of them, if I get the chance.), and because I'm interested in how the human mind works and I'd be curious to have the chance to know how living with no sounds and no verbal language affects it.

Their signs are fairly accurate to what I am learning in ASL 2 soon to be ASL 3. I started wanting to learn sign since the 4th grade. H teacher had the alphabet in English and ASL that's where I became curious/interested. I'm 27 now and finally living it. I truly love doing as well as the culture and I'm sure you will also! • That happened to me too. It was hard for me talking girls because I’m not good at talking. I can talk but not good at perfect English. I’m born deaf. I can read people’s lips. I learned on it so hard. So I remembered that I saw a beautiful girl playing on the pool and I wanted to say hello to her but I was so nervous because I thought what if she’ll think I’m weird because of my speech. I looked at her and she looked at me back. I smiled at her and she did it back too. She came to me and said hey. I said hey too. She realized that I’m deaf. I asked her if we can talk more. She gave me her number then next day, I had to meet her again. When I see her, she talked to me with sign language. She knows that I can read her lips but she wants to use sign language with me so it’s easy for me understand her. It took her learn how to use sign language a week. She learned so fast. We were in so love and are together for two years. It’s so amazing. Y’all, who are deaf, don’t need to give up. Just take your time and enjoy your life. Life is not always perfect.

He is the absolute sweetest guy I’ve ever met and it doesn’t even phase me that he’s deaf anymore, it’s just really natural. I use a few signs here and there with him, but I’m too afraid to use more so I don’t embarrass myself. 😭

  • I got to sit opposite a deaf man at a party, and it was so depressing to realize he had fully expected to not meet many people to talk to. Now I am trying to get my fingers to play along learning ASL. I wish they had taught us something useful in school instead of this ididiotic polital nonsense. I love your movie. Make more of them, and maybe insert a few phrases that your audience can learn. Movies really helped boost awareness of deafness and sign lanuage, and I bet there is a lot of opportunity for innovation left in this medium.

  • Monce Bravo I'm a first year college student and looking into my future semester classes and figuring out what classes to take to fulfill my credit requirements, I was going to take Spanish (I'm well fluent in Spanish already, I'm Mexican) because I know id be too lazy to learn another language let alone sign language bc it'd be hard, requiring a lot of studying. But I thought to myself more in depth, and came to a conclusion that, I'm being selfish. I've heard many stories from act of kindness from restaurant employees surprising the deaf community by signing back and I realized how big this community is and how little people know the language of sign and I was just so inspired and now I'm going to take an ASL class because I want to get connected and know the deaf community better because it's just a whole different universe. 💕

Even a basic understanding and ability of ASL is hugely impactful, meaningful and helpful! Great short story! Think how amazing a short story would be about a Deaf person experiencing an urgent heathcare issue and coming into contact with a healthcare provider who knows ASL! • Nobody in my life is deaf but most don't listen. If they listen they don't understand. If they understand they don't agree.

  • At some point i felt that both were deaf and the girl didn't want to make the wrong assumption. I loved the video. I benefit from CI's myself, changed my world.
