  • Faber Castell Graphite Aquarell, are the most underrated pencils! I use these on Arches Hot Pressed watercolor paper and they have contributed, to the best graphite drawings I've ever made!!

    • If you're drawing with graphite,Arches Hot Pressed watercolor paper (the one that is Mostly black,with a pink square in the middle) is the best quality paper for finisheddrawings. It's a delightful to draw on it. The BEST drawing paper ,is the Hahnemuhle Dessin 150gsm. I recommend gettin both, the Hahnemuhle, is a dedicatid drawing paper, that left me speechless when I tried it!!@@annamarielewis7078

    • Get them, they work great for both drawing or quick sketches. For example you can do a fast sketch, and use a wet brush, to create the shadows! It looks much better and it is also faster, than using shading techniques with common pencils. Also, these Graphite Aquarell, perform exactly the same, as the common Faber Castell 9000! That means you can use them without water, for either writing, or drawing/sketching! They are a bit thicker than the other Faber Castell pencils, so they provide a way better and more comfortable grip! Trust me, you'll love them!

And because of your technique with using the Caran d'Ache palette, I bought first one, then a second one, and had the hubby cut the second in two so I could use it for travel or plein air. :)

  • Best brushes for watercolour: Raphael 803 Quill mop(love the No4, No2 and N00). Raphael 8408 and 8404 Kolinsky,are also some of the best, if not THE best brushes out there!! Raphael 8408 No2 and No6, and a 803 Quil mop No4, make the best set for watercolour painting!! For No2: I'd choose Da Vinci series 35 (No6 all the way to No12,all are great!) For No3: I'd choose the Royal Talens Rembrandt series 100 Kolinsky (best value and they perform as good as the Da Vinci, if not better! So, the hair are 100% top quality, they are also made in Germany!) PS If you do Botanical, Raphael 8408 No2,No4 and No6, are the BEST brushes you can get. As for the paper choice, depends on the brand of watercolours you choose and what kind of painting you do.Mostly the way the watercolour brand you choose and how it performs, play a huge role, on what paper to choose)

Luckily there is tons of free or paid resources and education nowadays online, so we are very lucky. I am also following the book ”the Natural Way to Draw”, a classic that is very interesting. • @@paintingandchocolatedo you know if there's a substitute to the Caran D'Ache palette? I live in Brazil and no one sells it here, and importing one is soooooo expensive... I always paint with watercolor the way you did, but It takes me a lot of time to dissolve the lead first, because the palette I have is not textured... I have tried a laminated palette, that is textured, but it's made of wood, so I always have to be extra careful, so I end up not using much.

  • Its a great way to draw, but I wouldn't call it new, I was doing it over thirty years ago with Derwent Water Color Pencils: drawing, using suble water to control shading as u do here. Are u saying, perhaps, that company(ies) famous for pencils only are adding this to their lines? For some reason, the English excel at pencil and ink supplies, Faber Castel, Derwent, etc. I don't kniw when the pencils came out, but they were residly available in the late 1980s... U display "100% cotton" paper here. What is * your * go-to supplier for drawing and water color paper? I always end up with Amercians paper but, as mentioned, always with English inks. Oils are another story... * Sucb * control! A real joy to work with...

    • I know some of us know these pencils as you pointed out. What I found overall that everyone owns a box of these kinds of pencils and very few actually know how to use them. Most times people don't use them at all for a lack of technique tutorials. They have changed the game for me when I started studying them. Btw I totally love Derwent and all they are doing, charcoal pencils, inktense, graphitint... For watercolor paper, my absolute favorite is Arches 🙂

    @justinisenberg1841@justinisenberg18414 ай бұрын

    • @@sal8454 I always tape the sides but it bulges up in the middle once it's wet. A little wet or very wet it's always a problem. My paper might not be so good.

      @justinisenberg1841@justinisenberg18414 ай бұрын
    • I tape down the sides. When I get it very wet I'm usually led to dry it as I layer, and that helps flatten it back to normal. When it's still not flat, happens often, i place it under a pile of books overnight. If the bulging is bad, wet the back of the painting and place under something heavy.

I'd say the one 'hack' with water colour pencils would be they are a great alternative to traditional colour pencils in that they always have a real strong pigment load in comparison even at cheaper price points, so it can be a good hack for those on a budget. If ever Im doing illustration commissions that require a cartoon approach Ill draw with a black Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencil
