On January 15th, 2014, Alex Honnold made the first free solo ascent of El Sendero Luminoso (5.12d), a 15 pitch big wall near Monterrey, Mexico. This is footage from pitch 7 (5.12a), filmed by Cedar Wright, Renan Ozturk, and SkySight RC for Camp 4 Collective. See the full film here: • El Sendero Luminoso ft...
whoa....
I'm surprised you didn't sponsor this.
You know its epic when redbull says whoa...
Tristan DeWeese its because he has skill.....not wings.
Paul Alexander now THAT is a muthafucking burn!
hey red bull, land us on europa.
I think I dipped into my chalk back about 50 times just watching this clip. Freaking out there AH.
Ha ha - same here!
My hands got clammy too.. I seriously got vertigo from watching this... O.O That climber is a madman! In a good awesome way I mean. But still a madman.
What a fantastic angle to really capture the exposure and air beneath his feet. The crossover and step-through were a great selection for the clip as well. Superb work Cedar!
My hands and feet started to sweat just watching this... BAMF lifetime achievement award to this guy
Literally this is my worst fear I think. I regularly find myself having stress dreams about climbing up a hill that slowly gets steeper and steeper until I'm stuck on a sheer 90 degree slope, sometimes I fall. It's terrifying. I CAN'T HANDLE.
Stop dating fat chicks. There, problem solved.
Know what you mean, and things hasn't gotten any better after i started watching Alex :)
Climb, climb, climb, and never hear "click"... Holy shit... Absolutely awesome...
This guy's got balls of steel !!!
I love climbing, but never in a million years would I have balls big enough to free climb, let alone free climb something like THAT. I watch in awe, and terror simultaneously!
Every time I watch a video of Alex Honnold I am completely amazed. As someone who has never done any proper climbing I just think of the strength which must be required just to hold on to a vertical wall like this never mind haul yourself up it & Honnold makes it look effortless! He's a genuine inspiration & incredible to watch.
dern it crazy he doesnt fall off with those heavy balls
Never thought about it that way, but you're right.
The weight of his heavy balls are offset by the lightness his air filled head.
As a beginner climber, this would be beyond terrifying with a rope. The level of exposure and isolation if you got injured or got stuck. Free solo'ing is mind boggling.
Whoa, can't wait to watch the full video. One word, amazing.
Infact its so insane I cant stop watching it......love the 100% commitment factor and how sure you have to be of yourself every single move......head strong RESPECT
Wind as a soundtrack? Brilliant! There might be a bird somewhere far away. The tinkle of falling pebbles. But it really is the relentless wind. Sitting on my ass yet I can actually feel it. You guys are great!
Alex Honnold is one of the best. He's a legend.
The fact he went on to free solo a wall twice as high as this is insane. Idk what else he can do to top any of this.
My hands got super sweaty just watching this.
+Marlon Mendez Mine too wtf right?
Epic Legend! I can not say anything else.
Unbelievable!! Incredible!! Words cannot describe this daredevil!
Hard to believe that he is still alive
I was getting vertigo from my office chair. Well done!
Wowwwww simply amazing this bloke is unreal.....made me think how amazing humans can be...but the power of this mans mind is awesome....best clip ive ever seen .....RESPECT
Amazing footage
Chest tightening anxiously? Check. Palms dripping with sweat? Double check.
These guys make my hands sweat. (Tools who shout "fake" at anything they don't understand just show they don't know the difference between real and not real. They are actually shouting "fuckwit".)
Awesome the person who filmed it!
The next Assassin's Creed game needs to be about this guy
Logical Reason Nice reasoning, Logical Reason! :)
This is amazing.
El parque Potrero Chico ubicado en Hidalgo, Nuevo León, México Se los recomiendo, esta excelente.

I look forward to watching this later...
Melinda Lusmore Oh, you must watch! ; )

My respects for this guys!
My hands is sweating watching this
Wow~ Simply amazing!
Yeah I would have fallen off just watching. That made my feet go completely numb! The sound of that wind was nuts! And I've done a fair bit of climbing in Colorado, Utah and Nevada!
Extraordinary.
If any human beeing is superhuman, it's this gentleman.
Ok, thats insane!
Alex... you are AWESOME! 50% insane 50% genious :D
Holy shit! My stomach was cramping just watching this.

EPIC!
Alex, U are amazing, BUT just imagine, how feels that people who loves U.
that's insane :O
Anyone who says this is fake needs to do some research. This is as real as it gets.
OMG! I can't look! CRAZY
powerful stuff
Please tell me what is meant by 'solo ascent' I am a newbie. Secondly, how long did it take him to achieve this feat climbing? He is simply amazing! Thanks for sharing Kaushik Ram on your wall! Russ
Free climbing is to climb using only the rock to ascend, using harness and rope only for protection, not as a means to ascend. Free soloing is free climbing without protection, without a rope. This free solo climb took him three hours.
Vivamos intensamente a cada segundo porque a vida é uma caixinha de surpresas! Boa tarde!
cool. where are you from? De donde estas?
Crazy dude.
It is like watching a heroine addict shoot up. You are wondering if this will be his last time. The focus and drive he has is unmatched but it can't last forever.
+mpgxsvcd thats a disgusting comparison tbh
no it's a completely accurate and good comparison. the dude is *a.* risking his life for a high (literally) *b.* doing so purposefully without safety equipment (much like heroine addicts get stds and there are safer alternatives to feel better). his example is spot on.
Это просто жесть! Я даже подумать не мог что есть такие отчаяные люди! Молодец парень!
I'm cheering for the wall
LOL my hands did actually sweat
How did he do that with no rope or anything like that and did you get scared when you looked down? That looked scary but how does it feel being a sick mountain fountain climber!?
Holy moly
Ok what happens if you're climbing and suddenly you wanna poop because the beans you ate are making you nasty!?
never eat beans
he has talked about that in the interviews... He just takes a stance, lowers his pants down and poops.
And where will you be when diarrhea strikes!?
dead.
you shit your pants. not like he can take time out and find a toiilet
Just watching this made my palms sweat
I almost died only from watching it
I can't believe how it climbs mountains , I feel dizzy in my head !!
Scary as hell!
looks like someone had an extra bowl of kickass for breakfast
dioooossss es verrlooo y se ponen de puntaaa vaya huevos :0
Is this slo-mo or the pace in which he climbs?
Watching this while suddenly a small quake shakes my place (in Mendoza, Argentina). Not the best feeling..
great Honnold
FUUUUUCK ME... I worry more about making the right decision about what to put in my sandwich. This guy.......
Alex goes where no man has gone before.
legend😎
raw indeed
Jokes on you my hands was already sweating!
Holy Madmen that I admire!
An amazing pitch! I'm 60 now and knew Sendero Luminoso in Peru in the 80s and managed a climb or two of my own, 30 years back. You have balls the size of cannon shot my young friend. Yol Bolsun!
What does a communist party in Peru have anything to do with this route in Mexico, apart from sharing the name?
@@el_mal_de_ojo Simple, as I recall we're talking about climbing a pitch. In those days, working or climbing in Peru you were more likely to be killed by Shining Path than the mountain. Since this post was 8 years ago, I'm not sure where you're question is headed and hope I've answered it for you.
I think ill let myself be bitten by a radioactive spider first before I ever go and try this one. Balls of steel for sure.
Applying for a Darwin award.
Why are my Legs sweating just seeing this video!? I was soooo hoping the camera angle suddenly changed 90 degrees and the guy was just climbing on the floor!
You have to have incredible strength to do this. I can barely do 5.8s with a rope.
lol, that's pretty weak bro.
King Chibot At least I am strong enough to admit my weaknesses.
👀🤘ALEX!!! 🙄💪This is so fuckin ridiculously crazy man Geezzz bro🙏👍
OMFG!!!
great
Crazy
the camera man was so good that he had to climb and film
where the fuck is the authenticity?
he actually climbed ahead, put the gopro in place, climb down a few meters and then climb it up again with the same fear and emotions as before that's why he is: (low pitched movie voice) 1. A GREAT CLIMBER 2. A GREAT WRITER 3. A GREAT CAMERAMAN 4.A GREAT ACTOR :)))
the camera men do toprope.there are other videos ,where you can see them hanging in the wall at different positions.so they can film the whole tour.
They used drones, read it on the local newspaper in monterrey (near the mountain)
Hahaha
My palms are sweaty
ζει ο άνθρωπος ακόμη; το εύχομαι!!!
holy fuck
My life choise and mindset is so far away from this, you'll had to look for it in another Galaxy 10.000 000 000 000 light years away.
cééééé locooooo
i'm even scared going on a 5'foot ladder... sitting here watching and going nope nope nope nope...
Can someone who is a climber please explain to me the point of foregoing any ropes etc? Does it really change the experience that much? Is it more freeing because you're not carrying equipment? Otherwise, I don't understand the point of this other than shock factor. I'm not judging, I just can't see the appeal.
You can't see the appeal because you aren't an idiot.
He is not doing it for shock or for you to be impressed, he does this on his own, alone, much more often than on camera. In order to do this one must attain absolute focus and be at the top of their game. Many people confuse it for being an adrenaline junkie, it is rather the opposite. The minute you get scared or emotional on the wall you start making mistakes, burn energy, and panic. Why no ropes? Because it is the most pure form of climbing. It is what commitment is, there is no way back. It is the difference between playing paintball and being in a real firefight. "Moving out" while having the safety net of your parents to help out, or doing it all on your own in a foreign country. Playing poker with chips, or betting your actual life savings (except in climbing it is actually about skill rather than luck).
He's so brave.. I'm scared even when I am watching it :O
My feet are sweating watching this...
O M G
How did he get down?
