  • What a fantastic angle to really capture the exposure and air beneath his feet. The crossover and step-through were a great selection for the clip as well. Superb work Cedar!

  • Literally this is my worst fear I think. I regularly find myself having stress dreams about climbing up a hill that slowly gets steeper and steeper until I'm stuck on a sheer 90 degree slope, sometimes I fall. It's terrifying. I CAN'T HANDLE.

  • Every time I watch a video of Alex Honnold I am completely amazed. As someone who has never done any proper climbing I just think of the strength which must be required just to hold on to a vertical wall like this never mind haul yourself up it & Honnold makes it look effortless! He's a genuine inspiration & incredible to watch.

  • As a beginner climber, this would be beyond terrifying with a rope. The level of exposure and isolation if you got injured or got stuck. Free solo'ing is mind boggling.

    • Free climbing is to climb using only the rock to ascend, using harness and rope only for protection, not as a means to ascend. Free soloing is free climbing without protection, without a rope. This free solo climb took him three hours.

  • Can someone who is a climber please explain to me the point of foregoing any ropes etc? Does it really change the experience that much? Is it more freeing because you're not carrying equipment? Otherwise, I don't understand the point of this other than shock factor. I'm not judging, I just can't see the appeal.

    @britskee03@britskee0310 жыл бұрын
    • You can't see the appeal because you aren't an idiot.

      @AndroidVageta1@AndroidVageta110 жыл бұрын
    • He is not doing it for shock or for you to be impressed, he does this on his own, alone, much more often than on camera. In order to do this one must attain absolute focus and be at the top of their game. Many people confuse it for being an adrenaline junkie, it is rather the opposite. The minute you get scared or emotional on the wall you start making mistakes, burn energy, and panic. Why no ropes? Because it is the most pure form of climbing. It is what commitment is, there is no way back. It is the difference between playing paintball and being in a real firefight. "Moving out" while having the safety net of your parents to help out, or doing it all on your own in a foreign country. Playing poker with chips, or betting your actual life savings (except in climbing it is actually about skill rather than luck).
