It's become tradition by now. People were persecuted, tortured and killed by the Roman church for centuries, for practicing the worship of nature and the pantheon of nature Gods and Goddesses of their ancestors. In order to keep their spirituality alive, they had to practice it only at night, in secret, in hooded cloaks so their identity would not be revealed if their services were raided. Before the Romans, the worship of nature spirits, etc., was done any time of day, just as natural as the wind or clouds blowing across the sky. The darkness was only made necessary by the Christian persecution. Even today, you could lose your job, your neighbors could stop speaking to you, if it was known that you practice Pagan ways. The dark is protection against persecution.

It would also be nice if this was more of a broad-brush discussion. It seemed limited to feminist Wicca, and didn't even touch-on other occult and pagan paths. It also makes it seem as though mental-illness and dysfunctionality are the norm for modern pagans.
Seems like this is just a peek into a much more broader documentary soon to be produced.

I became pagan after struggling for years and years with the concept and teachings of christianity. Hating my life. Hating how upon waking, I felt that if i died that day, I'd go to hell even though I tried my best to be the best christian. What a horrible way to live. Then around my 30's, I had a literal awakening. Now 8 years later, my life is full of peace. I see the world in a much different way now than before and I find beauty in the day to day. Becoming pagan was thee best decision I ever made. I am no longer angry and am just more peaceful. This video did a great job but I think it still portrays a darkness, even though in my opinion there is no darkness in paganism. Only balance in opposition. Blessed be to all my fellow witches and wizards. May we spread this peace beyond even more.

I ended my comment earlier with peace to all and to spread love to one another, (may they be pagan, christian, or not.) Don't' you think it's interesting that christians walk around damning everyone around them? I would never walk up to someone and threaten them with damnation. See what I did was research the things in the bible that made no sense. I also researched other books written long before your bible and there are many other religions way older than christianity that have many of the same stories that you find your bible. Hell didn't even exist until the Roman empire made it up. Catholics, who were trying to convert the pagans at the time to Catholicism used the antlered god in the pagan religion called Kernunnos as a devil. So they warped it. I don't believe in hell. I will never go back to christianity. I do believe in Jesus but only that he existed and was a wise teacher. He was full of love and peace. . But the concept of someone just so happened to be readily available to sacrifice for sins just seems to convenient. That is why many people see Jesus as pagan because he is nothing like god. I could go on and on. As long as you wish and practice peace and love to your fellow man, practice whatever religion you want. I'll keep practicing my beliefs. This is where I find peace with myself, my fellow human, and with nature. There will be no further replies from me. I have nothing more to say It's like you say... Just planting the seed. It's so easy to use hell as your argument or that god will deny me, isn't it? So easy to say. Some sort of nice satisfaction you guys get from telling all us "sinners" we're going to hell. If it helps, I saw the initial horror aspects within the film to be a way in which to show people their fears, for the sake of then dispelling them. As I saw it, it was a way of saying, "See? There isn't anything to be so scared of, after all!" But people had to be shown what they are afraid of first, in order to then be shown that those very fears are not necessary. As a practicing Pagan myself, this aspect of the film meant a great deal to me!

Personally it annoys me when people try to say that gods have genders God is not a gendered word They Are Spiritual Beings made of energy they don't have a true physical form they may present as one basically to ease our minds but they can change it at will

To those complaining about the beginning being evil... I think you need to understand what evil is, preferably not from experience, as I do not wish that on anyone. To be clear, 'scary' is not 'evil' and 'evil' is not necessarily 'scary'. Darkness is not evil. It is a different spiritual and energetic current, including even the aesthetic. Whispering in a 'scary way' in the dark tunes yourself into currents of energy you won't find spinning in a circle in sunlight. Both are valuable, both are different forms of expression that yield different connections. There is great power in the Whispers. Just as with Weaving. These are practices you have never heard of, likely, because they have not been written. Spend time in ritual and you will find forms of magick yet unrevealed.

@@chuckfriebe843 I think it makes sense to have the "spooky" approach. The occult seems all ominous at first when the truth is much less dramatic and that isn't a bad thing
if its scary it makes people feel afraid, that gives the illusion that something is "evil", fear makes people feel threatened, they call it evil because it seems like a threat to them when it really isn't, honestly its the film makers fault for deciding to go with that choice.
@@foxpro3002 I think, though, that the entire point that the filmmaker was bringing across was to show us that that which we may be afraid of is not necessarily evil. That can only be done by showing us the very things within the occult that many find scary, and then showing us that we need not fear them.

What a beautiful video , the way this was filmed is very nice. The contrast of light and shadow is stunning in this presentation. As an occultist myself it's good to see these arts portrayed so beautifully , and yes nature plays a major part in our lives because Gaia is the great mother and as we are all her children living in tune with her instead of being destructive is best. If we continue with the oil spills and pollution we will pay sooner than later and we will have no choice but to watch it all revert back to a state of balance and natural order that will take place after our destruction. Most don't see how interconnected the many ecosystems are due to greed and irresponsibility , but we will , it's just a matter of time. And there are not more druids , They disappeared long before Plato died , so if you claim to practice those rites and initiations , which is what makes a real druid , I know better. These are neo druids walking around nowadays because all the secrets of the real ones were taken with them when they left. Only a few writings exist that only hint at what they were and did. I'm making a point because this is how history gets confused , 20 years from now people will say , we saw druids holding ceremonies at stone henge and they will tell they're kids the druids build them and so on. Just like soloman temple was built by a man with a ring. But this is how history gets burned in books . Nowadays they make you burn your own history by not reading books , you have tube videos. A little Trojan horse of stupidity if you're not careful. Occult knowledge is there for those who seek it , it's not in comic books or in Googles limited resources . I see people leaving the dumbest comments and get 80 likes , and I see people leave bright pieces of truth and get 3 likes and I think , what's wrong with this picture. I'm not a smart person , but I know that 5 years ago kids from highschool to collage believed the earth was flat. And they thought the world was run by shape shifting lizard people in league with the Illuminati. Internet hypnosis peppered with fake occult information that went against the laws of common sense. Being an occultist myself and a teacher , I couldn't understand it . Yes occult practice is personal , but the next generation should understand the logic of the classical learning systems and why they were in place back then , to sharpen they're common sense . I will always be here for them. The quadrivium and the trivium was the basis back then on a well rounded start to education. After that you knew how to debate with logic . You had a foundation of how alchemy worked , which was only physics and chemistry , you understood the language of the universe as you were skilled in algebra and geometry. Philosophy and metaphysics , creative writing and poetry . I'm not saying people didn't have silly superstitions back then , I'm just saying as far as the education went it taught people how to think and not just memorizing stuff. It taught us to work with nature and not subdue it. And how to grow as a person , not what kind of job to train for. Nowadays people believe in anything. Like that black and white music video by wolf parade titled , I'll believe in anything.

The trivium from the word tri or 3 , that is grammar , logic , and rhetoric . The quadrivium from the word quad or 4 , is basically arithmetic , astronomy , music , and geometry. The 3 and the 4 make 7.

These aren't my exact beliefs but it literally brings a tear to my eye that we pagans can finally be open about our practice after how many centuries our ancestral beliefs have been destroyed, surpressed, or completely dismissed as if it's childish to believe these things.

I have been into witch craft for many many years. The earth is my church. And you don't have to be Christian to believe in God. Paganism is a beautiful thing. It is a blanket term for many different schools of thought... as long as you hurt no one, and keep good intentions I don't see a problem

@@redvelvet5374 well i always recommend agrippa, giodano bruno and john dee, since i always suggest to start with occult philosophy as its a good base to start off of, it can also show if your a serious occultist or just a casual dabbler, then i usually say to dabble in different occult subjects until you find what makes you tick, then stick with that, i for one specialise in occult beliefs and practises of ancient civilizations, theres one book in my collection im currently translating called "De la Demonomanie de gli Stregoni"

I have witnessed the magick in the Divine Liturgy when I celebrate it. In fact, I consider it to be High Magick. This is why I follow both paths as a Christo-Pagan. I feel close to those saints who loved and lived with nature and loved animals, like St. Seraphim of Sarov, and those who helped their fellow humans, like St. Herma of Alaska and St. John of San Francisco. This is a lovely video. I wish they could have made it longer.

If you were trying to shed light on the topic of Pagan Faith or the Esoteric you sure did keep it in the dark the entire time. It's ridiculous that people blindly follow the Orthodox religions all across the world but have this stigma toward those whose faith is in the roots of those religions. This just made it look crazy and dark.
That was only the beginning. The rest of it was very positive. You need to watch it again, or you never really watched all of it.
not every practicing orthodox of any major religion “blindly follows”. many of us have come back to traditional catholicism and have learned infinitely more about the true doctrine and mystical practices of my ancestors’ near 2000 year old religion. kindly requesting you not judge others especially while you seek mainstream acceptance for yourself and your marginal beliefs that the mainstream religions preach specifically against. read thomas aquinas. the scholarship on that topic reaches back thousands of years.

Why I do you find it very informative, it also seems that the director for reporter of this clip seems to be a bit confused about what occultism is. Occultism does not automatically or exclusively mean paganism. Every single religion has a sort of occult movement within it. You have even Christians, Muslims and Jews who indulge in certain occult practices. What the occult really is basically people who seek out secret/hidden of knowledge that are within certain religious or spiritual practices that are sometimes unobtainable by the mainstream framework of organized religion they do it from a harmonistic view of maybe multiple religious views or sometimes it's more seclusion away from the normality of what is mainstream to religion and as well sometimes from a more darker sometimes more insidious manner. Oftentimes for individualistic gains and secretive knowledge in many ways. It is not something that's essentially associated with polytheistic or reconstructive Pagan movements. Well not wholeheartedly.

Yep! Although try to be careful with religions who try to make it like a family, they can become cults. Not saying paganism is a cult (I’m a pagan) but be reeeeally careful about religions that draw you in with love and the promise of family. That can turn sour very quickly. Just be careful

I have a complicated relationship with paganism and Christinaity both; my first exposure to paganism was very traumatic and negative, but I've never fit in the Christian mold either. I think both experiences have strengthened my magic, intuition, and psychic senses for the better.

It's sad. So many damaged people. I have no doubt that many of them were abused as children. However, I find it fascinating that they, even now that they are older, are so quick to reject the better parts of the cultures they come from. It's so sad they felt the need to reject everything associated with those that they felt hurt them in some way. The irony is that it takes far more faith to believe in what they believe than the faith necessary to believe in The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sad and ironic with overtones of self-victimization.
@Megan F start our own schools, with no govt control and influence...would be nice. Children shouldnt be in school 5 days a week anyway! The govt tricked generations of women into believing its somehow inferior to stay at home with children, that they're less of a person by not going to work as soon as possible after birth! (IM female BTW, and got tricked)! So the govt now get 2 lots of tax from both parents, and get to indoctrinate our children 6 hours a day 5 days a week! We've been a very stupid and complacent society.

Well done! Finally, an informative video on average people doing 'their' thing, following their beliefs and being themselves. Wasn't a video where an outside voice spoke about paganism, rather; you let pagans share their experience.
@duckynado the video is titled "Pagan" not wicca. This is a video about different forms of paganism not about wicca. You should listen to the very last statement before the end of the video very carefully. And btw, paganism's foundation is based on the ancient statement "Do what you will, as long it harms none"... Wicca fits very much into this, so stop ragging on the Wiccan people. I, myself, am not Wiccan but a pagan polytheist yet have Wiccan friends and we get along quite well and have learned a lot from each other's faiths.

Considering “Wiccan” isn’t truly a word and is “Wicca” is just the old Anglo Saxon word for witch. Your comment doesn’t make much sense? Most people use that out of context because A Wicca is a male witch and a Wiccean female. Both pronounced “witcha and witchen” so saying “witch (non Wiccan) makes absolutely zero sense. The term Wicca or Pegan are more for the female and male witches and warlocks that have one religion with matching deities they believe in, but being eclectic is also possible and has a more philosophical approach to multiple religions or the atheist for example that has no religion but does still work with nature, elements and inner energy - is still considered witch or warlock, both are umbrella terms for there diverse paths. That being said these terms are not always religion based so actually do not necessary have anything to do with devil worshipping especially not in these modern times - The cunning men and woman are just practical practitioners of witchcraft that are all about divination, love, prosperity, healing and protection - using alchemy, spells, rituals and nature. I do notice a trend among gay practitioners that like to be called witch, I believe because it has more feminine noise to it - I can see why some straight males do not want to be called the same way, because it does not seem to sound all that gender neutral. Overall the term witch is also the most recognized by the general public, but still associated with something bad, dark and sinister - mostly still from the history and fashion alone.. In that case the term warlock has some value, because it is more unknown and could genuinely sparks some interest about the definition and interpretation the public has about the occult terminology surrounding witchcraft. I do believe the definition witch for female and warlock for male practitioners makes most sense and after all was already historically established. I like to add and believe that being a wicca or pagan with religious influence but going by there own rules, can also be considered oath breakers - Because the whole occultist movement is rebellious compared with the mundane stereotype public and there constricted way of life and religion. It is all about perspective and the interpretation in the eye of the beholder.
Not only was this beautifully shot but it featured wonderfully intelligent and well spoken people discussing their beliefs! I’m pagan and I’m raising my children as pagans. My son happens to have Aspergers as well, and this way of life just clicks for him, it’s something he gets, he understands and it resonates with him.
