Why you should buy a BMW E46 325ti compact as soon as possible! In today's market there are a few different options for the "daily" drifter for the young discerning gentleman. You want to be cool enough, be able to afford it enough, not have it break down a lot, and not get outperformed by diesel seat leon FRs and that sort of nonsense. So, what do you do? Rennie takes us through some of the options on the table and basically ruins them all, and then highlights something everyone is maybe missing. The E46 compact has always been the runt of the litter, but the 325ti version is a hidden gem for sure! Produced in low numbers, and with many less now available they are a great choice for someone who wants a subtle, well performing and decently modern drift car.
Rennie takes the car for some wet laps round the Driftland circuit, and is joined by the drone provided by our Patrons. It's because of our brilliant patrons we can do this type of video so thankyou guys for being part of the family!
If you liked this BMW E46 325ti Compact you'll be pleased to know it's for sale! It has coilover suspension, powerflex polyurethane front and rear diff bushes, welded 3.23 diff, hydro handbrake installed, low offset front wheels, hockey puck engine mount conversion and some other goodies too - it's drift ready for Driftland and is only £1600! On-site car storage also available at Driftland. Get in touch!
Driftland is the UKs only purpose built Japanese style drifting arena, built for all motorsport enthusiasts as a place to experience drifting at every level, from beginners taking their first steps to international competitions showcasing some of the finest talent the world has to offer.

  • Very nice video, I have got a 325ti almost unmodified as a daily drive and I quite like it, even if it feels a bit cumbersome unless I drive fast; previously I had a 318ti (E46) that in my opinion was nicer in everyday life. I don't really agree about the issue with the lethargic differentials that would rule out the other E46 models, it is true (ratios of 2.93, 3.05 etc..) but it's very easy to solve it: a used E46 diff with a 3.38 ratio (standard for E46 with automatic gearbox) is between 100 and 200 £ on Ebay and it bolts right on; I modified this way an old 325ci coupe I have as a toy for track days and now it's definitely more lively.

  • i have a 325ti since 2011 and ran it from 92k km to 155k km. it is a fantastic car. i never had any issues with it and never had to replace any parts exept the brake disks. it has a lot of power with its 192hp engine and it has a great handling which enables you to drift. i would only upgrade if i ever have the money for an M235i. every other car would not be a significant upgrade. again: very solid car and you can get it for under 2.5k

  • A few years ago I "accidentally" bought an E46 318i auto, the first series with the M43. Dyno'd at less than 100hp at the wheels and 225 RE003s means the only time I ever spun the wheels I was literally in a river. The most embarrassing car for an enthusiast but I could scando flick it into a corner at over 80mph and never, ever feel stress. It's a fecking phenomenal chassis. If you want something to skid buy a 6cyl E46, weld the diff, chuck on some tyres, and revel in the presence of a car that drifts itself.

It's got 97k miles on it and I don't know what to do with it. Maybe throw an I6 into it, put a bash bar on it and find a way to mount standard headlights on it so it doesn't look 100% retarded. Then proceed to beat it into other cars and walls. I just don't know how difficult the m50b25 engine would be to swap despite how cheap they are.

Do the repair yourself for around £300 if you are a vaguely competent welder and mechanic. In all cases you get a faster and better looking car with it. But yeah I can see the appeal of the compact as a low budget drifter, I just don't find it a desirable car personally.
