I'll be experimenting going forward with different formatting, as well as expanding the content type. A simple title segment was added, with a short, approx. 3 mins summary of the operational plan for the battle. This is an very rough "alpha" version of the summaries, and will be cleaned up in the future. I'm working on more analytic material in the pipeline, so while that's in the process, we'll knock out some of these low-hanging fruit to update the channel.
One of the largest battles I've simulated in Warno. This started to stress the system, and we'll have to experiment with some overlock/boosting for future matches of this scale (or higher). The match was played post-Lannes and is fought with the new 82nd Airborne Division. The 82nd Airborne has some air-lift capacity with the addition of Chinook-towed 105mm artillery pieces. Hopefully this will be expanded to include other vehicle and equipment air-lift capacity. On certain maps, like "Mt. River", the division operates well, when supported by strategically placed heavy-weaponry like armor, or adequate artillery/missile cover. The 82nd is well equipped at seizing and holding urban environs quickly, and defending those areas with adequate air-cover (though unfortunately, air-cover is not air-lift currently).

  • This was awesome, especially the air battle as the artillery unit was being dropped in. Probably pretty accurate that the attack would start with a furious exchange of missiles overhead and a lot of burning planes. Expensive Apache losses, though. I hope the WARNO developers get rid of the *spin in place* damage effect on choppers, it kinda takes away from the cinematic immersion.

    • Helicopters will do that when either the main or tail rotor go out though the tail rotor is there specifically to counteract the torque of the main rotor so any uncontrolled imbalance between the two will send a helo spinning, generally wildly, however when theyre hit going at full speed that doesnt happen....so that should also be addressed Beautiful cinematics though great vid

  • When you're actually do u prefer to group units to deploy as platoons or do you send them in individually I generally like to do 4 infantry squad platoon, 3 tank platoons and usually 2 helicopter squadron but support units and recon I keep separate

    @rolandhanson7678@rolandhanson7678 Жыл бұрын
    • I never send any units individually. They are designed to be used in coordination with each other, and group sizing is clearly important especially since smaller units cannot reasonably be expected to accomplish certain missions i.e. you would likely not ask a squad to hold a town say as a trivial example

    @SPARTANSAM1@SPARTANSAM1 Жыл бұрын
    • Hey I'm making slow progress, but as we enter the holidays, I will likely have significantly more time to work on this , the videos, and some other surprises. The idea is the mod will have some set of changes/alterations (hopefully most/all non-trivial) that will change the game's use in scale. Part of the problem is play-testing (as you see in my videos), the other is just exploring the toolkit that Eugen has given us is labor-intensive. There's relatively sparse documentation, so a lot of it is literally me changing something, seeing how it works, and then noting it. It can be fun with no deadline, but can be slightly frustrating if you have an idea of what to do a-priori (which we do here obviously). I hope this wasn't a disappointing answer, but with work/life/research etc. taking up so much time, I'm expecting my free time to increase in the next few weeks. Also, shockingly, we are about to hit 500 members in this channel. I'm scripting a channel update when that number is hit along with the community tab, to outline where I think things look like going forward (from a timeline/development/kinds-of-videos/information etc.)

      @TheDataWorkshop@TheDataWorkshop Жыл бұрын
    • @@TheDataWorkshop Not a disappointing answer at all. Modding sounds both really frustrating and incredibly rewarding at the same time, with a large dose of tedium. If you're up for constructive feedback I did have one thing. I really enjoyed your pre-battle briefing, and I get that in this video when things kicked off you were likely going for the more cinematic view of things (which you succeeded in), but I think it'd be interesting in some videos for you to talk about how your plans and maneuvers are going, adjustments made, enemy response, etc. After awhile of pure action it became a little hard to keep track of what was happening. Keep up the great work!! Looking forward to watching more of your stuff!

      @SPARTANSAM1@SPARTANSAM1 Жыл бұрын
    • @@SPARTANSAM1 thank you so much for this feedback! Reading these (good or bad) are always insightful and welcomed! I'm very new to modding (this is my first attempt/game), but I think it's enriching, especially when combined with learning software technicalities, and on a game that one has domain interests in like Warno! As for the specifics of your recommendations, I absolutely agree. I have not tried an edit where I speak in the middle, but I have tried to add visual cues in my latest two videos throughout the match. Here is an example of one (timestamped) - kzhead.info/sun/daVyoL1vfYqso30/bejne.html This latest video has many multiple points where there are these visual cues that are outlining progress with respect to the plan, though perhaps not enough showing short-falls and communicating those. Do you think the visual could be used in-lieu of verbal communication, or do you think verbal is the way to go ?

    @JJrandomVids@JJrandomVids Жыл бұрын
    • I'm not sure about that, though i don't have a clear knowledge of that event in detail. The simulated battles we are doing here are Cold War scenarios with two peer late industrial Era militaries. I would think Ukraine does not attempt to go "toe-to-toe" in the way we setup a US / USSR scenario here, as that would be costly and possibly unwise. This is entirely fictitious and of course a game.

    • @@JJrandomVids ah got it. I've not watched much of the footage of the Ukraine War, I am familiar with what you're talking about however, I read about it a few months ago. I have tried often to use air cavalry in Warno but get mixed results. Linking up is hard to accomplish even if your soldiers are only forward deployed only two miles ahead. You can see my early attempt at it in my earlier videos, air cavalry must have strong support to survive and they must have a well defined objective, and ideally, a viable retreat path
