Welcome to Crime Watch Daily Update Breifings: Today we're looking back at the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy, a case Crime Watch Daily covered in 2018.
The teen girl had been missing since 2013, and her family wanted answers.
In August 2013, Alexis went on Twitter to tell her friends she was heading out on a road trip. But somewhere along the way, Murphy vanished.
Nearly 7 years after her disappearance, In Dec. 2020, Alexis Murphy's remains were discovered in Lovingston, Virginia, and positively identified. Enough DNA evidence was recovered in the Murphy case that ultimately led to the murder conviction of Randy Taylor in 2014.

  • If someone ever attempts to abduct you fight like hell on the spot, don't go willingly or quitly. If they pull a gun or a knife on you it is better to make a scene and get shot or stabbed in public within earshot or visual of someone else than to cooperate and let them drive off to an isolated spot and have their way with you. Doing that just helps them get away with your murder.

    • I've seen stories where girls have been taken in crowded stores, parking lots, etc., by gun force, and I could be wrong, but I have a suspicion that the pos wouldn't actually use the gun in a crowd. Unfortunately, the girls/women are probably so stunned, they don't think of that, and, well...it doesn't end well.

    • A lot of times it's the victim's family who decides not the district attorney like you hear in this video the family said we want him changed to the max so there won't be anymore victims. Some families just want closure so fast they don't take the time to think about future victims. So good on this family for thinking of others and putting a monster away instead of jumping on closure for them.

Some smaller crimes yes, as the victim you can deny pressing charges, but this isn't one of them. DAs on the other hand can do whatever they want, especially if no one is looking.

    • I’m so sorry. Just watching this made me cry and think about my two daughters who are 19 and 14 I was hoping they would tell us where they found her I mean was it close was it far away? I know after seven years what could’ve happened but I had a friend that went missing in Dallas, Texas and she was never found and she went missing in 2013 and we don’t know where she is. We don’t know who took her we don’t know anything she was grown she had children and she just told her kids that she would be right back and they were of age to be left at the house by their self for a few minutes while she ran to the store or something, and when she never returned the next morning. Her son called her brother his uncle, and we still don’t know what happened to her. Her car was never found, she was never found, and a few years later it happened again to another girl that we grew up with, but they found her slaughtered and in an abandoned house in South Dallas she came up missing from North Dallas and then a few months later it happened again to another girl we didn’t know but she lived in our area and they found her also in an abandoned house, and it just makes you wonder… The thing is the girls that were found inside of the abandoned houses they still never found who did it and it’s gut, wrenching to even think about when that girl that went viral everywhere for playing like she was abducted, and then she popped up… Carly or whatever her name was it really touched my soul for the time that she was considered missing because that actually happened to so many people that I know in Dallas, Texas and I didn’t think it was funny when people were laughing about it but when she was found it made me so mad because situations like this really do happen and that’s not funny to fake a kidnappingI took it was missing when she came out and said that she faked her abduction I was so mad because there are people that are really hurt out here praying for their loved ones to just be found

Her missing person banner stayed up everyday until her remains were found. It was nearly a lifetime before they found her remains. This is an extremely small community but rugged terrain. Dollar General is the biggest store here. I can remember driving Hwy 29 to work in Charlottesville, VA wondering just where this gorgeous girl could be in this small community. Charlottesville is very busy and scary at night and I refused to work after dark there. I refused to drive that highway after dark. There aren't many places to stop if you break down. You are in the foothills of the mountains. This case definitely put me on guard forever. My heart still breaks for this family. My grandmother daughter was kidnapped by a woman who was her next door neighbor in 1936 or 37 in San Francisco. Not sure the year but i remember my grandmother saying she was 5 or 6 months old and her name is or was Gail Patricia and she was born in 1936 or 1937. The sad part is the police didn't bother to investigate due to the fact of the race and my grandmother had other children and single. I wish I could've reunited or got closure for my grandmother because she never stopped missing her daughter.

So, they couldn't pull the typical "missing person 48 hr" procedure. If there is suspicion of a serial killer/abductor, every second is crucial b/c it could save a life. When ppl die, they return 2 dust & go back 2 earth, so if he left her remains somewhere on or in the ground, then she returned back 2 earth. It's more important 2 keep him locked away until he dies so he'll never be able 2 do this again to another family. It's an important sacrifice to save the masses vs. knowing where the remains are 4 burial purposes.
