  • Gus is arguably the greatest fighter to never become champion. This guy took both DC and Jones into deep water during their primes.

    • I'd have to disagree. In terms of fighting, the best fighter to never become a UFC champ has to be Overeem. Ran through K1 legends, and was pummelling guys in Pride, his 2008 spree was legendary when he was on that juice and finishing all his opponents and going undefeated. 75% sig strike accuracy. About his only weakness was that glass chin

    • You really can’t look at Cormier or Jones 1 and say they’re better fighters than Gus Extremely extremely close fits and in Cormier fight he even almost kod him with that knee. Like 1% difference in gus’ favor and he could’ve had wins over JJ and Cormier. Pretty incredible

  • I remember how everyone was trashing Gus before this fight because he was coming off of a rnd 1 TKO from Rumble, saying the Jones fight was a fluke and he wasn't worthy of another title shot. Then he went out and put on this performance when DC had an insane aura of invincibility around him.

    @blacksanta7367@blacksanta73677 ай бұрын
    • DC at 205 only beat patrick cummins & 3 fight losing streak hendo he arguably lost this fight when Phil Davis easily choked him out, after this fight smith choked him & Krylov flatlined him. We can all hate on Bader for stupid ass memes but he absolutely deserved a shot vs DC more than Gus back then. Jones also beat gus 4-1 easily idk why that was ever a debate, Reyes 100% beat Jones 3-2 but i think Thiago Santos did a better job than gus & he didn't win either.

    • @@DADRB0B55 what the fuck are you ranting about schizo, i literally just said that Gus proved doubters wrong that said DC was going to run through him with ease. And before this fight Cormier beat Barnett, Anthony Johnson, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, etc with only Jones giving him a challenge

      @blacksanta7367@blacksanta73677 ай бұрын
    • 4-1 is ridiculous and you either only watched the highlights of that fight, or you are trying to put out shit bait to argue with people. It's important to call that out because Gus was the closest anyone had ever gotten to making Jon look human, and almost won that fight. The Johnson fight, well, what happened there happened and it was a bit of an upset at the time. Bader had a great run but he had been absolutely Daddied by Jon Jones. It could be argued that it is a shallow metric to use, but they knew the public would be sold on the guy who made the nemesis of DC look normal, rather than the dude who had been dominated by him. @@DADRB0B55

    • Most underrated fighter ever in my opinion. He had a complete game to go with exceptional toughness and heart. I wonder what could have been for Gus if he wasn't so unlucky to have his peak years spent battling in the same division as two of the sport's best ever during their respective primes. Not to mention Anthony Johnson who's arguably the hardest puncher of all time finally came into his own as a light heavyweight during this period as well. Gus gave Jones and DC their most difficult and brutal fights and two of the most exciting in history. He was great despite not having the belt to show for it.

      @Garrett1240@Garrett12407 ай бұрын
    • @@Garrett1240Agreed. I think his prime years would have lasted longer too had he not been in such wars early on. Those losses seemed to carve his course and it was a rapid downhill trajectory. Sad because I think he’d have gone on to dominate the division if he’d enjoyed a bit more early success.

  • Daniel definitely deserved the win. And truly Gustafsson made him a better fighter.

  • I honestly prefer this fight to the Jones vs Gus fight. Take away the element of surprise and this fight is superior in every single way

  • People are not mentioning that Cormier was really pass his prime at the age 36 fighting a good fighter in his prime at 28!!! If Cormier was in his prime this fight might have not been so close!!!! And Cormier was the much shorter man at 5'11 and Gus is 6'5!! Looking at the tale of the tape, Cormier was at a total disadvantage!!!

  • What a war this was! I thought Gus won this one, but definitely could have gone either way. I also think Gus beat Jones in their first fight.
