Casey Bishop from Roland demonstrates the AIRA series at Kraft Music. AIRA uses Analog Circuit Behavior technology to virtually recreate the behavior of traditional analog circuits in classic machines like the TR-808, TR-909, TB-303, and SH-101, then combines the sound with modern features like arpeggiator Scatter effect and USB integration to pick up where the analog classics left off. The end result offers sought-after sound qualities of vintage instruments combined with powerful modern manipulations and performance features.

  • So many people complain about this shit not being analog. So what? Technology changes, people. Y'all want people to stick to analog synths and rhythm machines, just because you don't like new technology. The TR-8 sounds just like the 808, but it's $500! An 808 runs for $1500+. Not everyone can afford vintage equipment. You should be happy that Roland and other companies are still making physical products, and not just software for computers and tablets. Yea, it's not analog, but they're keeping hardware alive.

  • anyone complaining is either jelous or erm jelous, theres absolutely no reason to hate on these things, you cant compare cos theres nothing to compare them with, its all new technology, new ways to express your musical talents new ways of being experimental......... Roland have come up with something new and exciting once you complainers get your heads rounnd that then you can move forward,

  • Got these to make background loops while I play live acoustic percussion (doumbek, riqq, cajon, tar) and handpan melodies over it + some beatboxing. Works for what I need it to do. Super fun to play with and everything integrates together nicely. The music / sounds they demo here are not the best representations of what this equipment can do. Good stuff for the money.

  • Interesting machines, and certainly pushes boundaries that could never be done on this budget in the analogue realm. Don't get suckered into that analogue vs digital bullshit, technology has gone beyond that while you weren't looking. I have a load of hardware digital modules in my modular synth, as well as analogue, the two combined gives it more power than a room full of presidents... Forget the snobbery, and buy the gear that makes awesome sounds at a decent price and enjoy it.

  • As a producer, I think the unit I would get the most use out of is the VT3. Forget about running vocals trough it. I want to run synths trough it into my daw back out to the VT3 and back into my daw....The amount of sounds that little unit is capable of is 10-100x more than all of those machines put together except maybe the system1 that is going to have some awesome possibilities as well. But I'm going to get the VT3 first ;0)

  • First off, none of these are virtual. These aren't powered by Ableton or Traktor. Digital yes, but not using 1980's analog circuitry (which by the way makes almost no difference) isn't a tangible reason for your, "Fuck this new shit" attitude.

    @Yourveryowncarrot@Yourveryowncarrot10 жыл бұрын
    • digital is more of a difference than that. Digital means it is manipulating samples instead of physically generating the sound

  • I've tried really hard to like these machines, but there's just something cheap and nasty about the sound... The Vocal Transformer's OK, but the others just sound like VST synths. Digital's certainly got it's place, but when it comes to drums and basslines, nothing compares to REAL analog. Sorry Roland - not impressed :(

    @cornflope@cornflope10 жыл бұрын
    • cheap and cheesy is a bit undeserved. These are Roland's signature sounds. It just has a different architecture. Also, I would consider the past 40 years of countless electronic artists that have used Roland's equipment as evidence that they are a "force to be reckoned with."

      @LektroiD@LektroiD10 жыл бұрын
    • Interesting. Assuming we aren't talking about 9th century automated instruments or player piano rolls it seems IDoW needs to make a correction. Buchla's might have been the first commercially available then?. Still, it wasn't Roland though...as cool as some of their other shit can be. Thanks for the correction.

  • Roland completely lost uniqueness. Think the only reason Roland is not producing real devices (they only make virtual instruments) is because the lost the ability to produce real analog circuitry. They are just programmers now. They are not making anything new, just copying and emulating what they have done before and selling them at very expensive prices. The price they want for these emulation devices are incredibly expensive. They should have made ipad apps and vst plugins.

    @Mr_ToR@Mr_ToR10 жыл бұрын
    • Please do tell where your in-depth, well versed response is based upon. Do you own, have you tried, or even ('live'-)listened to any of the devices in the range?

      @andor_oudt@andor_oudt10 жыл бұрын
    • Andor Oudt Dude, you missed my point. Would you prefer such companies like Moog, Vermona, Doepfer or MFB to quit making real devices and start making virtual devices? That's what Roland became and the worse is that they're just repeating them selves for many years now, that's all i'm saying. I was hoping them to make a TR-808mk2 for example but not an emulation. If you are one of those people who say 'but it sounds good' there is nothing much for me to tell you except to say; of course it sounds good because the original devices which these Aira devices perfectly emulating are legendary for their function and amazing sound .

      @Mr_ToR@Mr_ToR10 жыл бұрын
    • "Incredibly expensive"? lol £250 for a TB-303 emulator and £350 for a TR-909+808 is NOT expensive. Incredibly cheap I would say.

      @teefour5818@teefour58189 жыл бұрын
    • You can run those emulations on your ipad. I wouldn't pay that much for software. I really can not see the point of these devices. How would you use them? If you are a DJ you already have a laptop so NI Maschine would make a lot more sense since it has analog drum emulation plus lots of other things as well. I can not see any use in the studio since you will be using your DAW then again you can use plugins that can do the same exact thing. I think you are paying for it's name and it's brand and probably the hope of owning legendary devices but believe me they are not. Very expensive and pointless. There is nothing special about the drum sounds, i have all of the original devices and believe me, you would be ok with samples or Maschine. You are not going to own the original thing so why would you really buy them??? Really pointless. It's a big hype created by a giant company and by their budget for marketing. Are you going to play them with a turntable? Ofcourse not, so what are you going to play them with? By the way did you know that Doepfer is selling more synthesizer than Roland. Even 70+ year old Oberheim resurrected his analog devices. Korg is resurrecting Arp, Are you into Acid? Believe me you will not be able to create acid basslines with that emulator with it's modern sequencer. Anyways, the hype will pass and people will forget. It's really so funny that Roland is taking advantage of people like this. Even Ableton Push would make a lot more sense than these Aira stuff. If you want an OTB setup, check out this thread: www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/833016-1000-electronic-music-otb-setup.html

  • Nothing interesting in these demo. Very bad taste in sound design. Roland needs a real producer or sound designer to demo these new products if they want to go into the pro market with the AIRA line. In my case I go for Elektron or DSI for electronic drum sounds, step sequencers and a lot more of parameters to create "good" sounds. That look like low cost toys and a bad quality keyboard with cheap plastic keys. They guy in the demo say many times "FUN" and "EASY" so... lets be realistic these are toys and "gimmicks". That Vocoder is a "joke" compared with the Roland Vocal Designer inside the V-Synth GT or XT. The V-Synth was the last good idea from Roland.

    @sonicocr@sonicocr9 жыл бұрын
    • PPl dont want pay 1000s off $$ for DSI like the Tempest with its bugs & sound drop outs ect, and Elektrons crazy menu diving and deep learning curve. They sound great as i own the rytm and its amazing but its so deep it takes along time to learn.Roland gear is fine nothing wrong with it, and i bought the system 8 synth with the expansion cards and it smokes the analog 4 in terms off sounds I NEED which are house/trance....

  • I really don't understand who likes this electronic simple sounds? I Wouldn't listen to a song that sounds like this, and wouln't buy none of these, why would someone want this synthetic electronic sounds? Real Question

    @FuckingSomeone@FuckingSomeone10 жыл бұрын
    • I think this music sounds dead because of the digital synths combined with the bippy music but the synths that these are copied from have lots of character and give music a certain fullness and funkyness. If you don't like synth sounds in general - thats your preference. But the earlier albums of J.M.Jarre and Vangelis etc show that synthesizer music doesn't have to be cold.
