  • I am a Twin Cessna fan and owned a beautiful 1956 310. I have always loved them all, especially the 421. The comment Rich made about being privileged to live in a time when we can fly these airplanes is so true and heartbreaking. They will never build anything like a 340 or a 421 again. Gone are the days of the 320 Skynight. I am an IA and could barely afford to maintain my 310. Not to mention finding parts. The "out of production" component of cost is reflected on the ramp. There are hundreds of twins sitting on flat tires at airports across the nation. They are really just ghost that trigger thoughts of restoration as you taxi by, so sad......Gorgeous 421, great video as always Rich!

    • A lot of the older stuff is just going to reach a point where it either can't be kept airworthy, or it becomes too expensive to do so. There are just not enough 1965 Cessna 172s out there, and they're eventually going to start wearing out. I see the cost of new planes, and I have to think a lot of folks will eventually get priced out of the market.

    • That’s the Biden agenda behind the curtain, restricting import of parts so you’re forced into these tiny paper kite airplanes powered by snowmobile engines. It’s such a joke to see flat tires everywhere while your taxes get funneled into housing for disgusting refugees.

You're an inspiration to this rusty pilot (you have so many type-ratings!), and I always look forward to your next video. I like your no- bull, just straight talk approach to your content. • One of my first jobs 20 years ago was as a ramp rat. The airport I worked had 2 421s. Part of the apprentice path meant one of my jobs was to compare the log entries to the receipts mailed back when those 421s were away, bring any discrepancies to the attention of the AME. Neither of those planes took a trip without needing service in the field. It got to the point where when I'd tow either out of the hangar, I'd just wait by the fuel pump. Because they were ALWAYS going to need the AME to get it going, or nitrogen to fill the strut, or the tire, a bottle of oil, or to to call the guy to unfuck the door seal, after they get gas, which they always needed. That one looks really nice, I'm sure it won't be like that for the new owner. (This entire video, and the time it took to type this comment is less than the time it took to get one of those 421s started on the best day,)

I was really interested in getting my PPL in the 1990s, should have done it then. Things were so much more affordable. In the late 90s, the company I worked for bought a 1979 Baron 58, think it was less than $175,000. They eventually sold it and it landed short in NC, and was totalled.

  • The good news is the “Golden Buzzard” is a great airplane to fly; the bad news is to fly, maintain, and insure the old bird you must be Saudi royalty

    • Not really - that’s was just a normal check up/check in on the checklist I do frequently. I fly in those videos I like I fly all the time and I refuse to pose for KZhead to appear as something I am not!

  • I appreciate your thoughts on value, but have to disagree. As parts and supplies diminish, the value will not drop, it will plummet. That plane is nice, but on incident and it is valueless….

    • Textron/Garmin/Continental and a multitude of other parts manufacturers/service providers make money on continuing to supply/support them - why would they stop a profitable business which has strong demand? Valueless perhaps in your opinion but I can attest to a robust market for them from pretty smart, successful people so the fact is the opposite of your opinion!
