Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot keep telling the press how horrible the old Snow White was. According to them, the new Snow White is a girl boss that doesn't need a man to save her. Great.

    • it was great. cinderella wasn’t a good role model because she “didn’t need a man,” it was because she was kind and took care of herself when no one would. she was confident in herself without being mean and that’s why the prince loved her. that’s a much nicer story to teach a child-loving yourself and others through kindness and adversity rather than being mean and individualistic.

Not just a remake (although, clearly they haven't been having their live action remakes of movies keep the love story part), and it's not like the main character was 100% independent. • Congrats for being THE Snow White! I’m reminded of my favourite read of last year, “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke. One of the reasons why it was so memorable is because the protagonist has the qualities the original Snow White does: he’s pure, kind, generous… naïve, yes, but always seeing the good in the world and giving it his best in return. It was so refreshing to follow a hero that’s not the smug, snarky, don’t-need-nobody types with chips on their shoulders we see all the time nowadays. Please. I’m already a snarky nobody with a chip on my shoulder so I don’t need to see any more of those in my fantasy stories, thanks.

Everything started with Snow White, but the studio can't respect it. I don't mind Snow White being more independent, but this is going too far. As harsh as this sounds, just as the original Snow White marked the true beginning of Disney, I think live action Snow White will destroy it.

She live a life of misery and she still manage to be kind. HER SONGS ARE ALL ABOUT TO STAY BRAVE AND KIND IN HARDSHIPS. My absolute favorite Line in any disney song is "There's no use in grumbling, when rain drops comes tumbling, remember you is the one who can fill the world with sunshine," like PLEASE THIS IS AN A LESSON THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET, SHE WAS NEVER A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS BECAUSE SHE WAS SAVING HER OWN ASS SINCE THE VERY BEGIINNING, SHE HAD A MOMENT OF WEAKNESS AND CRY BECAUSE WHO WOULDN'T? LIKE SHE WAS ALMOST GET ASSASINATED FOR WHAT? BEING PRETTY? REMEMBER THAT SHE IS 14 IN THAT MOVIE. She ensures her survival by trying to find a shelter, she gets to live with the seven dwarfs in exchange for doing the houseworks for them. All her songs are about staying positive and dream big. She is such a positive influence that the dwarves are willing to risk their lives to save her. They were just living their lives, doing the same thing every day and then this girl comes and helps them see the joy in their lives. She might have been doing the housework, but she saw what was good in them and helped them see their value. The prince is at the end of the movie, after most of the plot has played itself out. In Frozen, they did cut the staff by a big deal, but not only do we know the reason, there is still SOME staff, Gerda and Kay, who coincidentally are the names of the main characters of the original Snow Queen cartoon I watched on VHS as a kid which aarently had a second English dub, the second one is awful but the original was good. Original dub I shoudl claify. Same for Cadcaptors, good original dub but when season two came out ia few years ago, they brought in new VAs and it sounded ridiculous. I mean, Augumon has a VA in Digimon 2020 that is odd but it still kind aworks, but Keiro wonly has one proer VA and deviating from that is an ear nightmare.

  • As a kid, snow white was one of my favourite princesses. I literally saw beauty in her SNOW WHITE skin and accentuated red lips and dark raven hair. That is what made her iconic. That blue and yellow dress is what made her iconic. The fact that she was treated like a queen by 7 men and was able to live comfortably is what made her iconic as the very first Disney princess. To clarify, I'm brown. As a kid I never saw skin colour and I just thought that snow white was so beautiful with the way that she was. I don't wanna see no brown actress playing the princess from my childhood, that's not how I saw and viewed her at all. It's really irritating. I just wanted to see the princess from my childhood made real, not different.

  • It’s so sad because the story of the original women who voiced Snow White is very bitter sweet. Her name was Adriana Caselotti. In the original film there weren’t any credits so her name isn’t even mentioned in the film only the animators have there names at the start but none of the voice actors so most people don’t even know her name. At first she wasn’t even told that she was recording audio for a full on feature length film it was only as the work was almost completely that she knew the full scale of the project. She also wasn’t invited to the premiere of the movie and wasn’t allowed into the theater, (neither was the guy who voiced the prince because back then inviting the voice cast to a film premiere wasn’t even a thought) Also after the film came out she was going to do a radio interview to talk about her role but Walt prohibited her from doing so. He wanted her voice to be preserved as the forever voice of Snow White so Adriana never voice acted and acted in any film again especially anything with singing. She’s only known for voicing Snow White (just THE most iconic animated character ever but no big deal) The only things she did was sing as Snow White at events and stuff like that. She even got a Snow White themed well in backward. Then this chick comes along and says “oh falling in love is so 1930s” Adriana must be rolling in her grave. And honestly in a time when there was a lot more sexism and stuff like that just the fact that the first ever animated film had a female protagonist that wasn’t even sexualized (apart from the kissing) was very progressive for the time. At the time most cartons had female characters that were very sexy and over the top so Snow White was pretty modest as a comparison. And not only that but the first ever animated film stared two iconic women. The first ever animated film protagonist and villain were both women.

  • The evil queen/witch is probably closest thing to a girl boss character in the original Snow White. She goes out of her way to be a leader and the best (fairest of them all). She doesnt need no guy to get things done i.e. murder snow white (scowls at the incompetent guy hunter), so she brings the apple to Snow White herself to get the job done.

That actually reminds me of a Disney game called "Twisted Wonderland" where the villains are hailed as heroes where it mainly takes place in a school of villains and the MC being isekaied into that world. There are seven villains that the school worshipped for their "qualities" (Queen of Hearts for strictness, Scar for persistence, Ursula for benevolence, Jafar for mindfulness, Evil Queen (she was named "Fairest Queen" lol) for her tenacity, Hades for diligence and Maleficent for nobility). Evil Queen in the game was exactly as you describe minus the fact that she tried to murder Snow White (in the og tale, she attempted thrice; it shows her dedication :D) and any other crimes, otherwise the villains wouldn't be seen in a good light would they 🤣 (MC's the only who sees the seven villains' true colors though)

  • The real irony is that updating Snow White for a modern audience should actually just feature more of the prince. The only terribly outdated bit of the movie is that true loves kiss comes from a guy she doesn’t really know and who is mostly just smitten by her good looks. Keep Snow White mostly the same, but give her a relationship that is built up over the film and you probably have a decent “update.”

    • That was originally planned in the 30's but it was cut out. There was a whole Snow White comic that followed the story, where the prince goes back to see Snow White, but gets captured in the queen's dungeon. Realizing her evil intent, he rushes to save Snow White but finds out its too late (she ate the apple and is in the glass coffin). Really the kiss was a goodbye one, not a romantic kiss at all.

  • There has been a Real life Snow White adaptation called Mirror Mirror which in my opinion actually was the perfect balance between her having her own independence and eing a girlboss whilst also having a prince to save her and fall in love with. The directors also included actual dwarves who were lovely actors and it overall was a heartwarming and loving but still empowering movie to watch. I recommend eveyrone to watch that instead of this comming Snow White film. Mirror Mirror needs more credit.

As if in a dream, the best one so far is “Snow White: A Scary Tale”, there is an actress both according to the canon, and also a re-interpretation + a more mature love line.

  • It's odd how few people think about the 'rescue' in this story. Snow White survives being executed, stumbles around a forest, flops into the house of 7 guys and crashes there. Yet she doesn't act like a princess demanding this and demanding that. Her character and her loving nature grow, and the 7 dwarfs allow their hearts to be captured by this young woman. When finally tricked by the witch, look at how dwarfs respond -- if she had been a complete bitch, they would have just dumped her downstream somewhere. But they treat her as the most precious of creations. When the prince finally arrives on the scene, it would be dwarfs telling of her story that make her worthy of being freed. Does Rachel Zegler behave like a person anyone would want to rescue, or would they just walk by?

It also taught kids not to take candy from strangers. Which safeguarded them from danger. Being saved isn't a bad thing either. She changed hearts by her sweet spirit and fell in love. Some are more domestic like Sheeta, Kiki, or Sophie. And some even are both Like Chihiro, Arrietty, and Haru. The collection never takes sides on what goals are more important than others, the only absolutes that bind these heroines together is their search for love, truth, belonging, and community.
