Despite the harsh ratings, honestly Minecraft Story Mode is an underrated hidden forgotten gem of time that really deserves more recognition, not to mention the music in it is phenomenal, it always fits the mood, and is always so good

I honestly do not care how bad Minecraft Story Mode actually was, I'll never forget it. Looking back, all the cool stuff from that game that was never a part of actual Minecraft was probably what made me love it so much. Great memories

While this game might not be as good as some of us remembered, MCSM still holds a place in my childhood. I actually remember completing episodes 1-6 on my PlayStation 3 and absolutely loving it back in the day. Believe it or not, I also have the physical ‘Complete Adventure’ edition for my PlayStation 4! It actually surprised me to learn that what I currently possess is a rarity at this point. I also think you two described the whole situation around MCSM very well. Not only that, I give you good kudos for showing some admiration for it, being respectful, and pointing out its positives, rather than just taking a big dump on it like basically everyone else that covers this game. I honestly, yet sadly doubt MCSM will see the light of day ever again. Seeing how TellTale escaped oblivion by a hair, I think they will definitely be playing things much more safe from now on. I mean, the game already caused some mutiny within telltale fans and a lot of controversy just from its trailer before it even got on the shelves. Going back to one of their most controversial titles just seems like a gamble that they can’t afford to take, despite it selling enough to at least earn itself a sequel. Not only that, but there’s just not an audience for MCSM anymore. Though it does have a cult following that you guys mentioned, it just wouldn’t be enough to make another MCSM game a financial success. Though it did garner a very impressively large fandom for a series that underwent a lot of scrutiny, that fandom it used to have has either moved on to something else, grown out of it, or doesn’t even remember it anymore. I have to admit that MCSM basically died with a little puff, and there won’t be many Fs being pressed for it anytime soon. But at the same time, I’m at least proud to be the few who got to be part of and experience the phenomena of Minecraft: Story Mode and it’s fandom. Whether you see it as a good thing or a bad thing, I don’t think there will be something like Minecraft Story Mode again. And to have something so rare and forgotten, not only physically, but a part of your childhood as well, is truly something to cherish, in my opinion. I want to give a big fat thanks to you, SF productions, and Taco for not only explaining the story around MCSM, but help give closure to some of us. And with that closure, comes happiness. :)

Honestly depsite how much minecraft story mode had been ragged on I‘ve never been able to shake the how fond I am of it. I don’t know I just enjoy it. Maybe it’s the nostalgia that the music rings in my head but dunno. Can’t bring myself to really dislike it. It’s cheesy but sometimes I feel like it’s more fun to ignore that and just enjoy the goofiness of these little block characters running around on adventures.
It’s so weird to see that it’s now considered a “lost” game. Got to play them day one and have replayed em a lot, so I always forget about it’s delisting and the fact that newer younger Minecraft fans never really got to play this.

Oh boi. Minecraft Story Mode as a whole is a rather an interesting topic, given its background, the companies involved in its making, and just the whole game as a whole. It had a nice aesthetic and the music really fit the ambiance. (I think the music was one of the best parts of the game tbh.) And the characters were alright for the most part. Sure they weren't anything grand or groundbreaking but they did their role and moved the story forward for the most part. Something you'll notice when it comes to the first game tho is its lack of image. It's obvious they had no idea how much they wanted the game to be like Minecraft and thus they didn't know how many rules they wanted to adhere to or break to make the story fit. (Like how killing the Ender Dragon is supposed to be some big event in the story like it's in the original Minecraft game, or how Magnus/Ellegaard's death happens offscreen in a way that makes it seem like they leave a corpse behind, but after that everyone who dies just poofs or how going to the nether and End is supposed to be such a big thing even tho dimensional travel happens in every episode from then on) The DLC is a bit better in that aspect, taking advantage of the different ways people play Minecraft to tell interesting stories (Skyblock for episode 5, or episode 8 with all the mini-games that inspired it) while also introducing new stuff that shows MCSM is its own universe with its own rules. But that's also what drove people away from it. There was no ongoing story after episode 4 that made you think "Is it worth sticking around till the end?" Nothing really grand happens from episodes 5 to 8. Sure, they're lost trying to get home, but that's all. Everything is restricted to one episode. The Old Builders were cool, yeah, but they only became properly relevant near the end of episode 7 and then in Episode 8 they're apparently the big baddies we were supposed to care about all along. That's probably where the criticism about "boring characters" comes into play. The DLC only revolved around Jesse, Lukas, Petra, and Ivor. Olivia and Axel were thrown away, and all the characters we met after that stuck to their own episode except for Harper (and maybe the Blaze Rods but they were barely relevant in episode 1 anyway) I'd say Season 2 is overall better in all regards. Telltale took advantage of the fact that it was Minecraft to tell an interesting ongoing story, rather than be restricted by the rules of the game like in season 1. The ending of each episode could actually keep you at the edge of your seat wondering what happens next rather than making you think "Okay that was it, I guess" because we were actually sticking to an established plot like in season 1. The characters were likable, and even tho the main focus was on Jesse and Petra when it came to the members of the original cast, the writers used that to their advantage. The time skip made the fact that they all drifted apart with time an actual plot point and something Petra struggled with, which was nice. All the other characters they introduced this season were actually very interesting. The Admin is what the Old Builders thought they were in terms of "villains people actually care about". Stella and Radar were funny. Same with Lluna the llama. And while the lines are a bit blurry in terms of much canon it really is, Jack and Nurm were a nice piece of representation. Jack literally introduces Nurm as "his other half" in the first episode. and almost all their interactions throughout the season scream "old married couple". (Fun fact: no relationships were allowed in the game. That was apparently a rule given by the higher-ups). TL;DR: Minecraft Story Mode is an interesting case study. The game is average but its relations to the companies it was produced by and the game it was based on were what led to its image in the public eye. Season 1 and the DLC were alright, both having their pros and cons but Season 2 is where the game really gets to shine when it comes to story and characters.
I disagree with the problems mentioned from the 5th to the 8th episode, I think it's practically the opposite, I don't like the first part very much, I think the pace is a little slow, some moments like the end or the death of Magnus/ellegaard are saved, but a good part it's very boring, all the way from finding Soren and the farlands is very boring and unnecessarily long, but it's not a bad arc, now the portals arc I think is very good, you get to interact better with characters like Petra, Ivor and Lukas, explores these different dimensions more, putting you on mini adventures, at least for me it was more fun because it wasn't tied to just one narrative like the first arc, about only episode 8 being important, I also disagree, the goal it was to present 4 different narratives, the sky city, the pumpkin killer, the pama and the builders, and they are all resolved in the same episode, it becomes fun because they are new narratives in each episode, for me it is very good, just not do you have a decent finish, but for me the second game is the best arc, I understand your frustration that they didn't put Axel and Olivia in the arc, but honestly I never cared about them, so I don't care, but as you said, both have their pros and cons

I feel like this whole concept and idea could've been executed way better as a TV show or like, a Netflix series right from the beginning without having interaction and choice making, so for example, instead of having to make 4 sets of different lines for one scene in the game and having to animate all 4 of them, plus having choices that affect the progress of the episode, they could've focused on one set of lines, they could've spent much more time on the animation to make it look more polished, and they could've focused on the story more to make it more enjoyable and interesting, I think the game did some things well, and it was overall not such a bad experience for me at least. And I'd like to see it return one day. But I do agree that it had its ups and downs.
Of course, the quality of the series will be better, but it took away almost all the essence of the game in my point of view, it greatly limited the lines and choices we make in the game, besides the character options were limited to only 2 (not that this will affect something but it bothers me that they didn't put Jesse on the cover of the game to choose, which most consider as the canon version), the quality of Telltale really is problematic in games, but I still prefer the game for giving you more options, the fun in the story is that you make all the decisions, not only the most important ones, the dialogues also count

MCSM Is a under rated forgotten game I really miss this I remember watching DanTDM And Stampy CAT Play this that was a phenomenal game I really hope telltale comes around and makes another MCSM Season 3
They can't rn even if they wanted to because after they went bankrupt back in 2018 the rights were sold to minecraft / netflix (idk which one for certain maybe both) and we don't know if telltale even wants to get them back but currently even if they did want to they can't because they don't own the rights to it which is probably the main reason that all the episodes and the game in general is basically delisted EVERYWHERE. So the only thing we can do is hope telltale tries to get the rights back and make a season 3, and allow us to buy all the other episodes, but this is rather unlikely considering the fact that I am pretty sure they got bought over 2 years ago so I dont expect it cuz it's already been a long time doesn't seem they are trying to get it back or maybe they cant I guess. We will have to wait and see :|

now that telltale gas come back, sorta, and mircosoft making random minecraft spin offs every 2 years, i hope they can come together and at least put it back on the shop. i had both season 1 and 2 on my old i pad, but it’s gone now sadly, and just wish i could play it again.

I do remember the nostalgia I had for this game. I definitely do understand some of the criticism, the writing can get too cheesy for my taste at times, it definitely is going through the motion too much at times, especially in S1, but overall they were pretty good games. Personally, I enjoyed season 1 more, especially in terms of the story and characters. (Plus I have more nostalgia for S1) The new things added that weren’t in Minecraft were cool, the atmosphere and soundtrack is incredible as is the character designs/voice acting, but it definitely has weaker combat and it’s biggest problem is that all choices lead into mostly having the same ending anyway. Season 2 had combat and action that was actually exciting compared to season one, and it’s new building feature was cool (tho kinda underused) but the story’s main elements just feels a little shoehorned in, especially since it kinda missed an opportunity to expand upon the lore that we experienced in S1 (especially part 1 of that season). The characters also aren’t as good as the first (I understand they had to cut down Axel and Olivia since Olivia’s original Voice actor was unavailable, but c’mon, could they have found a better VA for Olivia than what we got for S2? No offense to that VA, of course.) The admins are cool, but still a little shoehorned in. However, the strongest feature of the characters (and probably S2) is the relationship with Jesse and Petra, as it makes a really interesting commentary about moving on and finding a new purpose in life again. (Also yes I ship Jetra). Also, the issue with it mostly being the same outcome at the end is still there, but it’s a little bit better as it shows how far the character has come have the right choices been made. I can see why it was removed, but I kinda do miss it. If they decide to make a S3, (which isn’t very likely I’m afraid) then I’d suggest they’d fix all the mistakes of the past, to be an exciting action packed game, yet also have an engaging story that’ll draw players in that appeals even older audiences and becomes more and more different to the end. Even if the story isn't particularly amazing, the novelty of it definitely made it worthwhile. I especially like how they play on real Minecraft mechanics and culture, like how they used the command block, met youtubers, did a hunger games minigame, and had to fight a corrupt server admin.
I loved this entire game series in general, it was a amazing game and I hope in the future it somehow returns. It appears the internet might be remembering it tho because I see a few MC:SM appearing. Might it become well known enough for mojang to see it? We may never know.

Personally in season 2 Radar was my favorite. Sure his voice was annoying because Yuti Lowenthal pitched it was up but I still loved that character.
Since Telltale had shut down, I have finally played and completed all of its episodes last 2020 after 6 years of waiting
It'd be cool to play it again and reanalyze it, but back in 2016, I only remember it being so much fun for me to play. I never watched any reviews or KZheadr playthroughs. It's also weird to see people choose other sets of armor lol. I believe I took Gabriel's armor and didn't switch it when I had the chance.
From the playthroughs I watched, I loved the game. I wanted to get it, but it was too late and I missed my chance. I hope it comes back so I could to a playthrough of it. This video makes a great point of saying the game was more of a movie that you somewhat altered the direction of. My biggest nit-pick is that there were not multiple endings which would've been easier to pull of in a game like this.

I've always had mixed feelings like this game i used to play it a lot then I kinda forgot about it then one day I was just looking at old minecraft videos and came across minecraft story mode I replayed it then forgot about it again I never had a huge liking to this game but I sometimes go back and replay it every once and a while

I actually did have this game on my old Ipad mini. I did end up deleting it to make room for more apps before it was taken off, which sucks. I managed to play all of the episodes except for the last one.

I used to think this game was good back in 2016, but now I currently think it’s okay. I kind of wish the game already had Season 2’s gameplay and the actual Season 2 improve’s on that. Also the choice’s should make more of an impact. To me it’s weird to me that Ep.6-8 seemed like it wasn’t planned and Ep.5 was gonna be like an epoluge (misspelling) which then expanded. Maybe (and this is just a guess) Ep.5 was gonna be the actual finale to the Wither Storm plot but probably ended earlier and so they decided to make a new plot after Ep.4. Idk if this is true or if there is an explanation. Idk that’s how I feel.

Minecraft story mode was the best game i ever heard as 10years old kid in 2015. Now i think its very good game with very good story, i still remember when i buy first episode.
I really do hope they bring back Minecraft Story Mode. And if they do that they would keep everything true to the story and keep the voice actors if possible. I truly miss Minecraft story mode. If they were to bring it back, I can just posture Stampylongnose playing it again!!! I'd love it to happen. Weather it will or not, I don't know. But I can hope there WILL be a season 3.
This was part of my childhood since I was 9 at the time the series first started and I just kinda watched Minecraft animation parodies since they were coming out left and right back then I loved Minecraft story mode well just watching it and outher people play it I'll never forget it
I miss it badly because when I started playing Minecraft 3 years ago I did not know anything about Minecraft this game helped me understand it better, I remember playing this game with my younger sister it was so fun we played it on netflix I miss it so much and I would do almost anything to bring it back

Minecraft: Story Mode was the best spin off! By far! Minecraft Dungeons was okay but not that special. I could only play a little bit of Minecraft Legends before I got bored on the hectic gameplay. I was too hard!!!! Minecraft Story Mode 1 & 2 need remasters for PS5, XBOX Series X, and PC!

I love all the characters. You did not talk about the ships in the show. I am seriously waiting for someone to talking about ships(with canon characters & fanmade characters). I rewatched other gameplays of minecraft story mode. Also btw i still wonder why people did buy season 2 more if it was much better than season 1. If season 2 had more solds just like season 1, we could have season 3 :< I did not even buy season 2 before it discontiued. I still have season 1 but my brother has a differen xbox now which sucks.

I first played Storymode back in middle school and I loved it to death. I now have Seasons 1&2 on my Switch and my Switch’s album is completely FULL of screenshots from Season 1 & 2 combined. While I love it to death, I will also criticize it to death. The writing for the dialogue could have been better, Season 1 is better than Season 2, I don’t like (but understand) Olivia’s VA change in S2, and I have a few head-cannons for the never-going-to-happen Season 3 🥲

I can't believe that MCSM is nearly 7 years old I bought the game in early 2019 and I stopped playing it in mid 2020 I recently came back to see my opinion I never got to buy season 2 and after the first 4 episodes I stopped playing. Season 1 is more linear and the mechanics are pretty stale if only I could have experienced season 2 this just proves "nothing built can last forever"...
I really miss this game, but I do have some plans and basics to make a fan-game of it.

I grew up with this game and I have been a fan since early 2016. A lot has happened. Unfortunately MCSM got removed from Netflix, despite how bad it was. I honestly enjoyed the Netflix version because of better graphics and less glitches. Even though you couldn't make too many choices, it was still good. If Telltale didn't lose their rights to the game, they were planning on adding both seasons to Netflix. Another thing they were planning on doing is even including Reuben to the portal arc series of mcsm. They were planning on making him survive the wither storm attack. Everything happens for a reason though I suppose. It's a shame to see this game go. I would play this game every day and I still do (hah, I have both seasons on xbox and switch) but it's hard to get access to the game nowadays since- well- it got removed off of the shelves and can no longer be accessed digitally. I'm really gunna miss this game.

Here’s a lesser known fact about this game, but Telltales’s management initially wanted Minecraft Story mode to be an 18+ game. It wasn’t until they went to Minecon that they went “oh fuck, there are a bunch of kids here” and changed course real quick. Apparently, there was an early draft of the game with this initial vision in mind, and it had stuff like dick jokes in it. Like with most of Telltales assets though, it probably doesn’t exist anymore as it most likely got deleted when the company first went under, which is such a shame because The Walking dead games in particular have a lot of incredibly fascinating cut content that I guess will forever be lost to time

I recently played season 1 on the Wii U, and tbh, it's actually a pretty good experience. Of course, the story is pretty flawed (I'll admit that), and character development doesn't seem to exist, while others were developed off screen (which feels forced), and yes, gameplay is pretty simple, but I think if Telltale was still passionate about their projects, then it may have been better. Problem is, this game was released when Telltale was sort of in a gutter (toxic workplace environment, milking the genre that died in popularity) and the game felt rushed at times. But still, I don't think it's unfixable and I do think it could really work
