Carol King was writing and singing songs since the 50's. Neil Sedaka even wrote "Oh Carol" for her in 1958 in an effort to ask her out, so she wasn't up and coming in the 70's. She was famous since she hit the stage in the 50's.

Revolver Den A few points: Her first single, 'The right girl' came out in 58. She was only 16, & it wasn't a hit. She became famous as a songwriter with her husband, Gerry Goffin, in the 60s, but not as a singer until 'Tapestry' in 71. Neil sedaka, had already dated her, in high school, when 'O Carol' came out. She married G. Goffin the next year, 59.

She married G. Goffin the next year, 59.
The strangest & greatest thing about these two is that they sound the same so many moons later...Their relationship is a magical friendship... The talent is just amazing, when they collaborate it's pure beauty for the ears..
Agreed… Pure Musical Magic❤️❤️
I saw James Taylor at an intimate open air concert in Haddington, Edinburgh, for my 40th birthday, I will neverforget that, totally amazing, and that was more than twenty four years ago. 😊

Two angels. Sent from heaven to make my life just a tiny bit better.
Winter, spring, summer or fall, all you've got to do is call, and I'll be there. Just sublime. So emotional...
People can be so cold, they'll hurt you, and desert you, and they'll steal your soul if you let them but don't you let them😍
She still has her voice......so nice
Beautiful friends singing together.❤️
My tears drop. I love James and Carol. I used to sing James songs. With my 🎸 guitar
We've all been there. Sometimes music like this is the friend you need.

This perfect piece of writing is something every race and creed on our planet can share and agree to and isn’t that the definition of a global masterpiece, Ms King is quite literally a gift from heaven and I can’t listen to this without tearing up with tears of joy... love it
I also tear with this song & Carol King was one of my favorites ❤
I'm tearing up right now Again 😊. I remember hearing this at my sister's graduation 🎓. I cried then and that was over 30 years ago ❤️🙏
A song that reminds me of my dear late sister, always there to be my friend when I was growing up. Miss you Kathy xxx
Marcy, your comment brought a misty tear to my eye, I hope when you think of your sister it makes you smile and glad she was in your life, bless you
This was our Class song and motto when I graduated from high school in 1971. Never get tired of hearing it and this rendition is one of the best ones I've heard.
Amazing...there just isn't music and lyrics like that anymore... absolutely brilliant!!!
I love how Americans are so warm and welcoming, clap and sing along. So many other cultures are so reserved, just a subjective point of view.
This is one of those that’s an audience favorite. Have you heard his solo acoustic version from a year after this. No singers, none of the usual people. Tells a good intro before he starts it.
Its so good to see these two performing together still. Brings back a lot of good memories.
Absolutely the best romantic duet, two beautiful human beings who changed people life for better ❤
Greatest song writer ever! I never worried about anything in the seventies. She was so talented.
How I wish I had a friend like this song speaks of....I wish I had at least one friend...
I've been listening this song a hundred times...and i love it..
sometimes you get very weak when you are with the one you truly completely and wholeheartedly loved, but the one you loved does not want you to be weak, they wanted you to be strong focus and at yourself, so in the end both of you remains..... just a friend.
You both make me so happy. Songs of love, peace, and passion.
Chame senhor !!!
My favorite song . And He is a great singer.

Now this is a classic in American music history
This song got me through law school. They tried to tell us we knew more than anyone else did about anything. Many times I listened to this and sang along--"They'll take your soul if you let them, but don't you let them."
She is even more beautiful with age! Love Carole King.
Thank You! You've got a friend! One of the best songs ever for the human race! A gift from God!
