Here's my list of useful tips, trick, features or just good things to know as a Hyundai Ioniq 5 owner. Some of these are not specific to the Ioniq 5 and may be applicable to EVs/cars in general while others may be more specific to only the Limited trim or the AWD model.
I'm sure I missed some really useful ones specific to the Ioniq 5, as I mentioned before I'm still learning new things everyday about this awesome car. So please let me know what I missed in the comments below!

  • Awesome video! One note: the USBC female adapter is a *bad idea* , usbc receptacle are not meant to be on cable/adapter side, it is against USB-IF design guidelines and could cause troubles. Just get a USBa male to USBc male cable.

    • Sorry to comment on an old post, but wouldn’t this not matter in a car? Since the plug is always used for charging, and phones always have to decide to draw power (and how much power) the USB Client-host standard won’t cause problems

    • So glad to hear that! This one really surprised me too as it seems a little counter-intuitive at first but afterwards I realized why the programmed it that way and it makes sense, you want to be able to engage both motors for max regen so without having a physical on/off button the i-pedal regen setting allows us to do that. I definitely spent the first 1000 miles not knowing that until I started doing some testing with it =)

      @Investor9872@Investor98722 жыл бұрын
    • @@Investor9872 It's excellent for stop and go traffic conditions and heavy traffic. Or if you like to switch regen levels based on driving conditions like I do, then I always end up in I-pedal when I'm coming to a complete stop. Then I make sure to switch out of it before moving off again using the paddles. On the flipside, a lot of people won't mind the hit to efficiency (I don't think it's going to be that drastic of a hit to your overall range) and would rather just drive in I-pedal, which is totally fine and personal preference. But I just felt it was important that people should understand how the system works so in case they want max range they know what to do.

      @CarsJubilee@CarsJubilee2 жыл бұрын
    • @@CarsJubilee I think it is going to vary by location and dealership. In Utah, it's claimed to be about six months. I'm hearing that many car orders are taking even longer, so I hope I'm not in for too long of a wait. On one hand, I work from home, so we can make it work. On the other hand, I ordered it to replace my totaled car, so it's a big inconvenience.

      @dannystaten5701@dannystaten57012 жыл бұрын
    • Oh wow that's odd, there's no real order system in the US. You can place a deposit with a specific dealer and they can tell you when they are allocated a car that matches what you want. But for them to say 6 months means probably there is a long wait list ahead of you at that specific dealer. Dealers get allocations around 1-2 times a month, some dealers only get 1-2 cars per allocation while others may get 15-20 cars per allocation. So if you are flexible about paying MSRP or over MSRP and are willing to travel a little farther than your current search area, you may be able to find one sooner just by trying another dealer. Dealers selling with big markups may very likely even have one on the lot ready to sell as long as you are willing to pay that markup.

      @CarsJubilee@CarsJubilee2 жыл бұрын
    • @@CarsJubilee, yeah there is a big wait ahead of me unfortunately. I test drove the Ionic at this dealership, and they expect to get about 9 allocated a month. We'll see how that actually turns out. I can get by while I wait, but the kid wanting his new toy is very strong with this one :)

  • It's mind-boggling to me that the superchargers and destination chargers in the US have non-standard chargers. In the EU, they were required to use the EU standard, which is what the AC/DC charging of the Ioniq 5 / my Kona EV use. So this was never an issue when I did roadtrips with my Kona! Cool video, planning to switch to an Ioniq 5 later this year :)

    • The whole electricity setup in the US is pure chaos anyway. From EV charging to their strange 1Phase low voltage. In the US, you can't really use a regular home setup to charge your car via domestic plugs as it's ultra slow. This also leads to the V2L function only handing out a fraction of the power it is actually capable of anywhere else.

Common culprits have been stuff left plugged into the obd2 port or the usb port (I think the wired android auto port might stay on) or using the bluelink app to open the charge port but there's also been some faulty batteries out there.

My order for my Preferred AWD Long Range Ultimate was just pushed from a May 2022 production to July and again to October 2022 (which will make it 1 year since ordering) so I’m anxiously awaiting its production. I did have a question on wireless Apple car play /android auto adapters. I saw a video on another channel for a wireless adapter that plugs into the USB outlet and then you can connect wirelessly to it while keeping your phone closer, or on the wireless charging pad. Have you seen it tested any of these? I’d be interested in getting your feedback on it.

    • Oh no sorry to hear about that delay Eddy! Though I'm glad you're not one of the unfortunate people getting the dreaded 'order canceled' call from the dealer. I've heard that Canada is only getting 1000 Ioniq 5s (all trims combined) and that dealers essentially oversold since they didn't know until now. I haven't personally used any wireless adapter in any of my cars before for wireless android auto or carplay but I've heard a lot of mostly positive things about them though the 20-30 second load time sounds a bit long? The other thing then is where do you put your phone, maybe in the cup holders? I have a suction mount for my phone, I've noticed the car is so quiet inside that anything not really tied down will rattle which bothers me personally. So at that point if I'm docking my phone I don't mind plugging in for Android auto if I want it as that whole process may be faster than waiting for the adapter to load. But I can still see the benefits of just leaving your phone in your pockets etc and having android auto load automatically.

The battery must have been at over optimal temp because I was finally pulling 150kW at a 150kW charger. So I saw the vents open and the car started making a much louder sound than I'm used to while it was charging, must have been the car trying to vent out the hot air. It may have some aerodynamics in play as well as the car dictates when to open or close.

  • I don't know how you guys are able to place an order for one. Here in Southern Cal, I've contacted everyone around me, over 10 dealerships, and they all tell me that there is no avenue to place a custom order for an Ioniq 5. I wanted a Limited AWD with white interior and Atlas White or Lucid Blue exterior.

    @Investor9872@Investor98722 жыл бұрын
    • You are correct in the US there is no such thing as placing an order for the Ioniq 5. You can put a deposit down if that specific dealer is dealing that way, but essentially you are putting a deposit down to get in line and wait for a car to come in. Dealers do not get to pick and choose what cars they get, they simply get an allocation and they offer whatever they get to those in line. Unfortunately that isn't crystal clear as some dealers may tell you otherwise, that you've placed an order with them and you just need to patient. In that sense if you wait long enough, they just might get the color combo and trim that you 'ordered' eventually and can sell it to you but the fact is that even the dealer has no say on what car they get or when. All Ioniq 5 buyers in the US are either finding their cars on the lot or going through a deposit system with a dealer. Hope that helps!

      @CarsJubilee@CarsJubilee2 жыл бұрын
    • You need to contact a dealer that will let you put a deposit down for one that is "in transit", that's how I got mine, they know what is coming ahead of time so you just have to check to see if they have what you want, that's how I got mine at Cardenaley way in corona, i had also enquired at Temecula Hyundai, they called me 2 days ago saying they had a limited coming but I already purchased one.

No other trim and no other headrest in the car is adjustable. The mechanism also works in reverse, if you want it in the most rearward setting you have to push it forward from behind (or pull it forward). So that force of your head pushing into it during an accident will not trigger it sliding into the other adjustable levels.
