Watching the flywheel torque before the turbo swap makes me feel like the diesel is under-tuned. That thing should be making more like about 400-500 ft-lbs in the middle of its torque curve, but it's making 350 at its best. Even a governed, all-mechanical 6BT from the mid-90s can push 400-450

Turbo Big block vs Turbo Diesel. That's a conversation the Diesel guys constantly try to avoid 😏
Probably because in the real world people dont tow with turbo 454s for a reason
@@brim5204 a diesel will lose in every category against a turbo big block
I wonder why the diesel motors in this game don’t make peak torque at 2000rpm like in real life, that thing should be pulling that load better at low rpms.

Personally owning a 454 bbc in a 78 c30 it’s actually realistic on the power bottom end has a ton of torque
Man your comment made me realize I have a very dirty mind.
I have an 83 K30 dually with the small block. Man I don't know why chevy put 350s in any of these 1 tons. A small block has no business being in a truck this heavy. Only reason it can still haul as much as it does is the 4.10 gears. I'm on the lookout for a 454 though.
Even 6.2 Detroit diesel's have 400 foot pounds or better from factory
@@michaell8356 more like 240-260 ft-lb depending on year...
@@michaell8356 are you on drugs?
The difference is that whit the 454 you get max torque at 1500rpms wile your 7.3 gets the same at 2000 rpms also have less hp so it means that at higher rpms takes more time to gain speed.
I miss my 98' Chevy 3500 with the 454 SS. You could piss behind the back tire and get stuck but man, that thing made trailers feel as if they were not even back there.
As someone who owned a 454. And now a 5.9 diesel who tows goosenecks loaded often. The 454 was great. Miss that truck. But the 5.9 out hauls it every day
A 7.4L gas vs a 6.0L diesel is stil a big difference but the 6.0 has the torque behind it so may not be so bed comparison
Let's not forget that the 6.0 is a *turbo* diesel. N/A diesels are nothing in comparison to a similar sized gas burner. Just look back at the old IDI 6.9/7.3 Ford's and the 6.5's GM used.

4:24 not to be rude or anything but you don’t need to rap* the filp out of first gear. Upshift to 2 and once you start losing speed downshift to first.
I disagree, by the time he goes up the hill, switching gears is basically useless since so much time is spent changing gears. He would do maybe 1-2 seconds in 2nd then down back to first, waste of time, plus wont make the run. Let the engine run at high revs in low gearing, maximum torque
@@youi511 it depends on the scenario but in 4:24 he could have had more speed if he shifted in 2. I am talking from experience i drive a manual irl and I almost stalled on a bridge. The traffic cleared when i was already coming to stop

I feel like the 454 climb better because it had more RPM. I really would like to see this test with the rev limiter sit to the same RPM. That extra RPM gave it more inertia at the bottom of the hill.
