The Viking Berserkers were legendary warriors known for their drug-fueled frenzy and prowess in battle. Berserkers were elite Viking warriors believed to possess supernatural abilities, fueled by psychoactive substances. The raid on Lindisfarne in 793 marks the beginning of the Viking Age, with Vikings targeting vulnerable, wealthy targets like monasteries and villages. . Despite their fearsome reputation, Berserkers were eventually outlawed due to their extreme violence, reflecting changing societal attitudes towards such behavior.

  • Berserker was an official position in which you were given a bear skin as a badge of office (Berserker = Bear Skin) and served as the kings personal champion and guard. You would fight duels for him or be sent as a "messenger" to any vassals that were misbehaving. It was a combination of actual warrior stuff and state craft. They were highly equipped and trained warriors that acted as the kings right hand, not naked drug fueled savages. Fantasy writing and tabletop games are where we got the brutal naked drug psycho picture of what a Berserker was.

  • This whole idea that Amanita Muscaria was used to induce the "Berserker Rage" was based upon speculation by a scholar who actually knew absolutely nothing about the the effects of Fly Agaric. This bit of speculation has been repeated so much that some (even scholars at times) have taken the speculation as fact. The actual effects of Amanita Muscaria are quite the opposite of those one would expect to be used to induce a battle trance, being very sedate & introspective rather than agitated & animated. Please stop promoting this old, unproven piece of speculation as fact.

Yes they were well practiced in Warfare but they were very brave explorers and they even were in America centuries before any other European people. Above all they were extremely skilled in Metallurgy and the production of tools and weapons which aided the craftsmen to produce ships so advanced that they could go out on open seas and navigate rivers with the same vessels. I've never thrown up on LSA seeds yet I can't find one report on someone not puking on them, natural psychedelics are crazy but they actually do things to you unlike man-made garbage like LSD which just simulate the effects.

It's easy to romanticise the past, but it was all mostly mud and blood I think. You're better off in 2024 than you would have been in 824.

You can see this by looking astern of such hulls while underway, there is a wake of froth left behind. So they are effectively cruising on air as much as water. And that makes a planing hull fast, very fast.

When harvesting one must be very careful not to harvest a "red devil". Psylisybin ( I may have spelled that wrong) mushrooms have a slight purple or violet color on the bottom. The poison ones or, red devils have a reddish bottom and look very similar. They can make you feel sooooo sick. I tend to think that this was what gave them the worst side effects.

You don't need drugs to "get into the zone" at all. You just work yourself into a rage until you're ready to "perform". The British had a discussion with one of their chiefs called Wampwan about possible independence for PNG. He said, How are you going to give me independence when I killed more people than you can fit into this(conference)room? On the other hand, the Zulus say that their troops were high(on potions made by their medicine men)when they annihilated Lord Chelmsford's army at Isandhlwana.

Conversely they were the same ships that discovered North America..ie Newfound land....so it's a bit of a paradox really....They were amazingly versatile craft. Light enough to carry and run with but durable enough to navigate the high seas. The vikings were incredibly good navigators. For example they are known to have navigated by the sun in complete cloud cover in a storm by using the lodestone as a visual tool to find the position of the sun in every condition... What makes a human, human is the fact he is made in the image of the Logos, which is reason, which is Jesus Christ, manifested into human flesh. Thats why Christians saw pagans as savages, because they did not did not lead their own life, their passions did, they are driven by the lower passions.... so who is in control? you or your desires? 'Control your passions or your passion will control you' example is a alcoholic. he is under the pattern of desire and cannot function without it. he is 'possessed' i will add todays times is worse than before, majority people at least in the west live by their desires and not by the Logos.

  • Vikings would NOT invoke Odin before a battle, because it made you MORE likely to be killed in the upcomjng battle.

  • Terrance McKenna said Amanita muscaria is chemically very disappointing and he thinks the high regard is more for its symbolism.

    • Amanita Muscaria is an awesome mushroom for both tripping and micro-dosing. But be very careful with higher doses. It's an extreme trip and you have to cook it right or else you end up on the toilet or the hospital.

    • @@aprioriaposteriori3676 Amanita muscaria contains no psilocybin and is not psychedelic. It will get you high but not in any way a psychedelic high, more like being drunk (so nobody that has ever tripped would call it tripping...); and it does nothing at all below the intoxicant level. Amanita Pantherina (the flatter yellow ones with white dots) contains the same chemical intoxicant as A. Muscaria, but is far more potent.

  • Another legend. Ever seen Spartacus(2010)? When Gannicus leaves his shield & armour and fights bare with one sword in each hand? Only the most skilled warriours can do this. This is the original meaning of "going berserk". Englishmen has never understood this and made up their own myths like here.
