This is my personal thought, but the 3 skeletons is a bit useless, because royal guards can perfectly replace them with shield and a larger attack range.
But guards don't come at 1 elixir. If you are a pro player you could do a lot with the skeletons. Early in the game I had the same thought why would you use a card which just dies at one shot from tower, but skeletons are more of defensive type. You can kite troops do some defense when the enemy support is locked somewhere else. Op for cycling decks.(almost every cycle deck has it ). See every card has its potential or it would have been removed, buffed. The skill required to play a card is also different so its just personal. If you are a graveyard player they guard is the best choice, aren't you?

The earthquake or another spell is what you need otherwise the miner gets destroyed
