Woah, didn’t expect that. Down here in NZ the pink dye shows that the timber has had the correct treatment. We have to build all of our houses out of it so it’s on my channel a lot! Thanks for the shout out! Love the channel guys
Hell yeah! 2 of my favourite channels speaking. Collab? 👀👀
Cheeky 7000mi (11114km) collab side-quest while on your Japan trip makes total sense 😂
@@concierj7993 Obviously 😂
the GOAT has arrived
It's the same in Australia, mostly up north where the termites do roids (it's a particularly strong type of treatment compared to the blue tint in the south)
Perkins and Scott Brown crossover video would be awesome!
would be quite difficult to carry out since they live on opposite sides of the planet, but it would have been cool.
Scott’s has mentioned in a few videos that he wants to build something on every continent. Even though New Zealand is close to Antarctica I’d dare to say that building something with the Perkins brothers is more likely to happen.
Hey @ScottBrownCarpentry, what do you think?
@@SpaceflightSimulatorno it wouldn’t, since he’s talking about doing videos on asi so, he could totally travel to america and do something
I agree
Yay Shout out for Scott Brown Carpentry! That timber may be Boric treated in NZ, not exterior grade but treated for borer (termite type insect). Love your work guys.
Scott Brown Carpentry
Love watching your projects , team working and even including the homeowners when possible. Thanks
Exactly what I was going to say. Interior grade treated used here in Australia too.
Sus with the little guy is from the game Among Us. Your kids are pretty funny. Keep up the good work fellas
Sus slang for suspicious
@@dku3611 or "Suspect" as in the one they thing did the crimes ;)
Vent kill all day!!!
Sus is also slang for gay
Wow. You mentioned Scott Brown Carpentry. I watch him too. Now lives in Nelson used to live in Auckland, New Zealand.
oh dang nice shout out to scott brown carpentry! haha
I can't explain exactly what it is, but your videos make me happy. The humor, the editing, the music, the team, the attention to detail and craftsmanship. Maybe this is exactly why? There's more for sure. Thank you.
I know what you mean. I feel it too. It's like hanging out with the guys. They all watch out for each other. I also REALLY appreciate how they watch out for Ray with his diabetes. Big points for that guys! People caring about people.
Me too - definitely one of those times where the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Hard to define exactly but just something extra.
18:41 To put it in Jason's words: I concur!
Best thing to do when bringing down a chimney like that is to cut horizontally every two layers using a grinder, it won't cut all the way in but should penetrate deep enough so when you belt the bricks the rest of the joint cracks and not the bricks themselves, once you get started you can even just crowbar them apart from there on. Saves a heap of mess. Cheers
You guys are the ones who inspired me since 2015
TIP. reversing/backing with a trailer. Steering wheel hand placement. The steering wheel is positioned where front wheels are centered. Place one hand at the six o'clock position on the steering wheel with knuckles facing up. As you turn the steering wheel in whichever direction, the direction you're turning is the direction the trailer is moving into. So, you turn the steering wheel towards the left, the trailer is moving towards the left. I hope it makes sense, but trying it will make more sense. I'm just trying to share or help. It's always fun to watch PBB and friends.
Love Scott Brown as well, addicted to watching their home remodel.
2 of my favourite building youtubers (Perkins and Scott Brown) would be cool to see one day!
These guys may very well have the best content on KZhead.
7:00 the "pink" wood is just fire retardant treated, we use a lot in hospitals and industrial building regularly in ky atleast
Same here in Wisconsin. Have to use it in certain commercial applications where a burn rating is needed. Coworker calls it barbie board.
We use it here in Kansas too, just don’t wear a white shirt when you work with it
Yah i typically see it in metal framing used around windows or doors so that there's something easier to screw/nail to.
I immediately thought 'Scott Brown!' when I saw that pink 2x4! Funny to see how small this community is, even across the world!
Scott Brown Here
Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Really digging this series, because it’s not a new build!
Wow guys, I've done a lot of demo/reno and it surprises me somewhat that you don't seem to wear dust masks. Love the show.
Wow that was a fast 20 minutes!
Man you know how long It’s been since I seen pink 2x4’s. Use to see them all the time in south Louisiana
Did not expect Erik would know about Scott Brown but it was a pleasant surprise
@12:06 "trying to take our time" - proceeds to start knocking at bricks while Jay's head is in the firing range.
16:57 That’s like a good video idea 😮. An episode on how everyone came to be part of the crew. Seeing how you guys are so close to each other, I would love to see some Perkins Builder Brothers’ history!!
They’ve done that before. I have no idea what video it was a part of, but I remember them doing that a few years ago, they went over a brief background of everyone and where they came from, how they ended up working there etc. you probably gotta sift through a bunch of old videos to find it but it’s out there somewhere haha
As aggravating as remodeling can be this is my favorite type of work to do. It's so rewarding seeing the transformation.
@PerkinsBuilderBrothers, "sus" = suspicious.
and below look like among us character
The pink framing material in the states is usually fire treated. We usually use it a lot in hospitals and commercial builds that we do here in Massachusetts.
I love yours and also Scott Browns videos! 👌🏾💯🤙🏾
Reasonably certain the large spray painted message on the trailer is a Korok from Legends of Zelda. They specifically say “Yahaha!” and come out of sparkly places (the star).
you guys are the most hardworking and resilient people. you guys make hard word enjoyable
It’s awesome seeing you guys work hard and have fun.
yeah, a mention for scott brown carpentary... you've made the big time now :)
Love the renovation content!
Great vid👏
I'll bet those ceiling members are not 20" OC but 19.2" OC. That was an old-school framing method where 8-foot sheet goods spanned five members rather than the traditional six with 16" OCs or four with 24" OCs. Tape measures are still marked for this; look for the red diamonds at multiples of 19.2".
A wheelbarrow might have been helpful to truck the chimney bricks out to the dumpster. ; ) It's interesting working on old houses as long as they are'r too big. This reminds me a little of the 1928 bungalow I renovated once. I leaned as I went. LOL All the best guys!
Looking good ! I LOVE YOU ALL !!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Y’all are beast!! I’ve binged watched almost all y’all’s videos. Jamie is the man!!
Scott brown carpentry is one my favorite utube channels
Another amazing job
Great work Perkins crew.
Cool to see the similarities, as im renovating one of the older houses in jasper Alberta, built in 1923. The walls were plastered, vertical lats nailed with those same small nails, then strapping , and 6” barn board with 0 insulation, except for old plumbing which was insulated with horse hair.
Another great video
When I redid my kitchen there were 2 layers of the same exact floor. I guess they really liked the look.
This is so cool to look at and you guys are entertaining to look at always waiting for you guys to upload, and its gonna be cool to see the end results
Happy Sunday y’all 👍
Same to you!
Awsome video guys, thx for sharing. Safe travels 🎉
Another terrific video/episode!!! Thanks PBB Team!!
love the remodeling videos!!! great stuff.. the bake goods look amazing!!
Great Teamwork 👍👍Looking forward to your work on this house 😀😀👍👍
Scott Brown says pink is the lowest level of treatment in nz. Basically just for termites. In the states I think it just signifies that it’s a pre cut stud.
Good builders Perkins Brothers
For the "pink" wood, according to someone in one of Scott Brown Carpentry videos someone said the pink is from a type of treatment for insect/pest like a borer (a type of tiny worm that eats wood and turns it to mushy dust).
Love the Timelapse’s for this episode! The chimney tear down was very cool. Thanks for all your hard work and taking us alone for the ride.
i'm hooked on this one for sure, really interesting remodeling!
I really enjoy your videos - you know what you're doing, and you all seem to enjoy working together. Plus, the humor. Since the estimated build date of this building is 1910, I keep watching for balloon framing. All I've seen is platform framing, which wasn't prevalent until about 1930. I'm wondering if the owner is off a few years in his estimate of the structure's age.
This is better then most tv shows love when the new ones get posted could watch for hours
Thanks for all the videos fellas! As I embark on a major remodel myself, seeing the tips, tools and tricks is giving me the confidence I needed. Appreciate all you guys do!
Jason getting a raise, then getting hired in the same episode! Moving up in the world😂
Now all the demo and clean up is done, the fun stuff begins!
Thank You boys! Some Super Bowl day fun watching your video today! KUTGW
Nice @ScottBrownCarpentry mention! He lives about 4hrs (by car) away from where I live. You and Scott are the only builders I watch / all I need to watch 🙂
Next time you take down a chimney, use a small rotary hammer on the mortar. It takes hardly any effort and the bricks stay intact
That hand slapping at 10:58 was PERFECTLY synchronized
If thats actually how Jason got introduced to the crew thats awesome lol. It would be great to have the backstory of each of the crew members and how they came to be with PBB!
The old newspaper ad with the kitchen appliances.....Sunbeam.....Made in Chicago, IL USA......My grandfather retired from there in 1973....Back in those days almost everything we used was Made in USA
Now all the money goes to the government , utilities and rich corporations that use poor countries to make our products🤯
Some of those appliances are still working today as made with quality. Unlike the throw a products of today.
Here is Australia, similar to New Zealand. We have a couple of different timber treatments depending on the use. Almost never would we ever use a timber that hasn’t been treated at all. The pink (NZ) or blue (AUS) is the lowest level treatment, then exterior treated and then ground contact treated
Nice shots from Cataloochee...great place to ski in NC
I'm really enjoying this series so far... feels pretty relatable - living in a 100 year old house that I've been working on for almost 20 years...i can relate to everything i'm seeing so far! (ps - love me some scott brown carpentry!)
Pink was just a common pre-cut stud length rather than 8ft pine boards. Still use them here in Texas.
Most likely the pinkish red lumber is fire treated. We use it in commercial construction quite often.
I Love Doing Demo To The End Rock On
I hope we get to see the end result of this build. We don't get to see remodels to often from this awesome crew!
Hi there ,Perkins team....7.50 pm here.... Fine Sunday here... While the most here are celebrating carneval,... I,m gonna watch your next video... Greetz from the netherlands🇳🇱
not sure why but im alwasy watching every video you guys post from start to finish Keep the content coming i love it
Love the videos and you guys are always having so much fun! Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing the next episode👍
By the way I LOVE your Videos I watch every single episode and I am glad there are more intelligent and most appropriate workers in other parts of the country, I LOVE IT !!!!! THANKS !!!!
The "pink" wood was quite common where I lived in Mississippi many years ago. Not certain if it was from a particular supplier or not. Some ancient memory makes me think it was wall studs.
Yeah studs use to come with a pink coating I think it was a treatment to prevent insects from boring in the wood
I’ve seen pink studs to be a fire retarder. Maybe insects too but I thought it was to reduce the damage of a fire
Enjoying watching the destruction and what it will look like when finished. Thanks!!
Love the gaming trailer 😁 If walls could talk, that place would have a bit to say. Love the idea of keeping the windows the same size it keeps the character of the place. Hope Johnno feels a bit better after taking out the limb that took out his box 😅 thanks for sharing
Shout out to Scott brown love that Channel
Real talk, those rolls looked awesome. How were they?
Pink here in Virginia is fire resistant lumber
I too watch Scott Brown in New Zealand, like your channel he is fun to watch and very educational.
The pink in New Zealand is yellow pine with treatment on top. It’s just a quick identifier
Would be great to see how you took the chimney down, but kept it above the roof line. I mean, I see how you took the bricks out, but would like to see what's going on in the attic.
7:15 that’s definitely a colour coding related to pest treatments. Not so sure about NZ requirements, but I’m sure it related to wood pests like termites or borers. we also colour code our framing timber in Australia as well as give it a numerical rating for weather resistance. For a treated structural framing member being installed below the Tropic of Capricorn, it’s typically painted blue to denote the types of termites it’s resistant to in that region. For structural members installed above the Tropic of Capricorn, they are painted red as they have a different treatment for different species of termites. There are also yellow and orange that I’ve seen appearing in NSW for use in joists and headers. We also have a numerical system for environmental. A h2 would be used for structural framing like a wall, h3 is typically for exposed but elevated like joists or rafters, h4 is for ground contact, h5 is below grade.
Jono’s revenge. Love it 👍
those 1961 appliances could still be used today, not like the ones you buy now, hoping they can still be used in 4 years! 🤠 I found the pink wood in a house built in 1954 that my wife and I remodeled a few years ago in Ohio.
I appreciate how you installed a skinny lens for the episode with melon-sized honeybuns. It’s either that or Jay and Jono have been P90x ing. They’re looking absolutely svelte!
Here's an idea for laughs, every once in a while, an outtake reel, bloopers and some of Jamie's extended vocal wanderings
On the porch bean why didn’t you nail a stud up then nail the beam to it then support underneath? That way it’s tied into the house better.
From the Uk. That house is like Triggers broom. It’s had 6 heads and 6 handles but it’s still the original broom!
Theseus!
A bit late, don't know if you'll see this, but pro tip to get rid of bricks without falling into one huge block or only dust by breaking them. Take a sds ( rotary hammer) and put a hammer bit( dont know the exact name in english) now you put in in hammer mode and just hit the mortar, the brick will come loose intact in 1 second. It's super fast, effective and you get to keep the brick in one piece!:) Hope this helps
They dye the wood to make sure that the customer is paying the right price. It also helps the inspector to make sure the right type of wood is in place. There is a lot of blue wood in Canada. I have seen pink and green as well down under.
If you find pink wood like that in IL, look for a stamp: it's probably fire-treated.
For the "pink" colored framing i've unearthed in old homes. We were seeing "Cally" markings on it and if i recall, some redwood framing materials. Used in "Wet Location" areas only. So your "pink" framing, for the shower would make sense. Cool Finds!
That close to town I need to look for a weekend getaway in Bryson City.
Your videos are amazing. Ive learned so much from watching the best educational comedy show ever :). You don't even need to cut the videos in parts, I'm pretty sure we'd all sit and watch a 3hr long video like nothing. Also, my daughter heard J say he was urgent low and came running to ask if you are Type 1 or 2. shes type 1 and gets super happy when find other type 1s. just thought id ask for for. Keep them videos coming guy cuz im finally able to understand all the numbers in the framing square
Great video! Are yall fully finishing this office? Cause Jaime said we’ll be here for a week
