  • Marine guy was extremely humble here. He got a 94 on the ASVAB, which means he could choose pretty much any job in the military. He chose to go into CBRN defense (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear). The girl in the red pants was being extremely ignorant and condescending when she implied that anyone could do his job.

It makes sense for Tyler to be defensive because everyone judged him but nobody judged the girl in red pants. I think it’s funny how she boasts her “high eq” and yet she lacks the maturity to accept her results and sits there shaking her head coming up with every excuse as to why she shouldn’t be there.

She was easily the most unlikeable person in the room and I don't know how the others didn't pick up on it. To me arrogant people with a reason to be so, sound and act very different from arrogant people who have absolutely no reason for it. I guess the fact she was rated highly here shows how prejudicial first impressions can be since if she wasn't allowed to talk about her level of education and employment I doubt anyone would have rated her 2nd out of 6 there.

    • Why do you think managers and bosses are always easily the worst employee? It's always the arrogant people with the most self-confidence because they overvalue themselves. Dunning kreuger effect, when you learn the basics of a subject you suddenly think you're good at the topic because you don't even know there is more to learn but as you learn more then the more you feel like an impostor because you're starting to realize you barely know even 1% of the field and could never even learn it all in several lifetimes... The more you learn the more you learn how much there is truly left for you to learn if that makes sense... Like in elementary school I used to think I was so good at math because I knew my times tables and the only thing they even taught was just the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing, and wow I can do my times tables in my head so I basically know everything, then you get older and you're introduced to algebra, trig, stats, calculus, etc. and everything literally starts turning greek before you realize multiplication/division were just the first baby steps you took and just not at all anything to brag home about. You start to realize you knew nothing then and still essentially know nothing now, just barely understanding the basics of stats, trig, calc, etc... You're now aware of those large gaps in your knowledge base when previously you thought you were a genius just knowing basic times tables not even aware anything harder possibly existed. The smarter you get the dumber you realize or at least feel like you are and the more you suffer from impostor syndrome doubting your actual skills.

      @DrakeOola@DrakeOola Жыл бұрын
    • @@DrakeOola Once again I have to educate someone on the Dunning Kruger effect. It's honestly getting tiresome. Dunning Kruger is just as prevalent in Smarter/Higher Education/Whatever your equivalent of more intellectual person/s than it is in those that are less so. Those people just have better tools to gauge their own incompetence's so overrate their own ability to a smaller degree than the dumb dumbs. You should read the papers. It's quite interesting. "Why do you think managers and bosses are always easily the worst employee?" Now to my actual point, this is just demonstrably false. This is just selection bias from you. I'm assuming you haven't been in these roles yourself and if you have you probably think that you are the one exception to this rule. There is research on this as well.

A heavy week would run closer to 72 hours. This is on the usual case of working in the motor pool for about 3 to 4 hours after working in the kitchen from 0430 until 1330, and working 11 hours one day of a weekend that you're facility is open. Add in hours if your unit is getting ready to go to the field, but you haven't been pulled from the DFAC yet. In the field/on deployment it varies by unit. In Field Artillery, the cooks had to pull Guard, QRF, haul the sites trash, get the water and many other things beyond cooking dinner. Signal on the other hand generally left the cooks alone as long as we were doing our job and chow was good.

  • The stereotype against the military is pretty bad lol. The hospitals i have worked at, the most respected doctors in my area are almost all either immigrants or former military medics. The first gen immigrants are easy to understand because we are basically poaching the best dr.s from other countries. But in the military you have to listen to what they do in the military for their more civilian type job. It is basically it's own economy. And if you hear of someone scoring really high on the ASVAB, you can count that as them basically in the higher tier of intelligence. Also, you have to have a certain level on the ASVAB to even be eligible to be in the military, that means the average iq in the military is actually higher than the general populace. Of course if your friend group is all dr's, your friend group average iq might be higher than the military, but over all the military has quite a bit higher iq than those not in the military.

These things erroneously boosted my young ego. I thought I was like super smart, lol, then struggled my way through school massively. Anyway. • They all got it wrong in the first place talking about intelligence, when asked to rank by the IQ score. IQ test tells you how fast and able you art at recognizing a pattern in the problem and pick apart the answer. It requires you to memorize, comprehend, and solve the problem. Intelligence, however, is more than that. To be an intellectual, one requires a degree of knowledge as well as creativity, which the IQ test doesn't really touch on. A smart person would not just know the right answer, but also ask the right question.

    @Soft_Ghost@Soft_Ghost Жыл бұрын
    • Knowledge and intelligent are not the same. Which is where their problem was. They were basing it on how smart they were mostly. That's not intelligence. Anyone can know more. You just put more effect into knowing more. And some require more effort than others. Intelligence is related to the ability to acquire the knowledge and apply them along with skills. Just having more knowledge doesn't even make you the smartest. You just know more.

      @kloaf1131@kloaf1131 Жыл бұрын
    • IQ tests are dumb anyway, every test practically uses the same questions and answers because they use the same exact puzzles, once you take one you've practically taken them all so even if your "real" score is ~100 you're automatically going to get like 120-130 having taken it before and memorizing most of the patterns. It's like learning how to solve a rubixs cube from a youtube video then someone hands you a "new" cube where they just changed one of the colors, like instead of having white they turned all the white squares into silver so it's the same exact puzzle with the same exact solution just dressed up slightly different, then you're treated as a genius because "wow you just solved this brand new one of a kind rubix cube no one's ever seen before in mere minutes...", they've most likely already got curious in the past and took a similar IQ test because guaranteed this was just one of those free online tests with all the same puzzles.

When you need people to think you're the smartest in the room that badly you aren't very confident in your own intelligence. Also as my favorite professor used to say: "The core of intelligence is not about what you already know, but about realizing what you have left to learn."

    • Your professor must have been a fan of Socrates. Me and my father always joke about “knowing that we don’t know”. Something that I find really interesting that is connected to this is the Dunning-Kruger effect. Basically when you barely know something about a subject you’re really confident but then as you progress in your learning you realize there’s still a lot to learn and when you finally know quite a bit your confidence builds up again. I just always found that effect really interesting, I thought maybe you would too 🥰.

  • I had the top two pretty well pegged. They underestimated the IQ of a person in computer science. If EQ was a factor at all, knowing computer science wouldn't help; it's IQ heavy. The hard working Asian male was the easiest one to pick because he was clearly intelligent yet humble. It's basically the inverse of the Dunning Kroger effect. Speaking of which, I was leaning towards using the Dunning Kroger effect with red pants. Her outright confidence made me think she was either number one or very low. Someone who is that confident is either very smart or a lot dumber than expected. In the same line of thought: the marine's confidence should have tipped me off. I should have had a high and low ranking for him as well, but I mistakenly had him lower than red pants. Fancy pants really surprised me. Good for him. It's not that IQ matters, but putting red pants in her place really was satisfying. Multiple struggles girl was pretty much where I had her (3rd, which she tied the marine for). I was impressed she was able to do that well on an IQ test with those struggles.

    • I put red pants as 3 until she spoke then instantly realize she was 6th, way too arrogant to be smart and I could instantly tell she's one of those people who completely overplays and overexaggerates how important the work or anything she does is. She likely works at CVS packing kits or even just swabbing people's nose/mouth with a Q tip, only job being to make sure they use the Q tip correctly then she puts it in a container and ships it off to the actual lab for the actual scientists to analyze but of course she'd never straight up say "I work as an assistant swabbing people's mouths with Q-tips for a living", it'll always be something like "yeah, I'm doing some advanced, top of the line cancer screening research working directly with one of the largest state of the art labs in the world and saving lives, don't mean to brag or anything..."

  • Ok so before I see the results I just wanna put this down here as my own reference. 1. I fucking love the better than average effect half of these people got going by basically thinking "I may not be the best one, but I'm definitely top 50%" which is a common occurrence I just think it's funny. 2. Tyler is probably really smart, not even for plot twist reasons or because I know anything about whatever it is he got a 94 on, but just because the way he formulates his thoughts and did not get verbally defensive or dismissive at any point. He feels like someone who is so confident in his own abilities that he doesn't need to prove or care about being "better" than someone else with regards to intelligence. Lowkey him being so confident as to put himself #1 might be a bit narrowminded, so could go both ways, but I feel like he is smarter than half the people there at least. 3. Red pants lady is humble bragging and lowkey putting others down constantly, which I am not surprised by because biological research from what I have heard from friends is an insanely toxic environment, so I can see "I need to be better than you" thing. 4. Wtf is this misconception that IQ is a measure of intelligence as a whole. IQ is a lot about logical thinking and pattern recognition, but it is also a made up concept in the end that disregards a lot of the components that go into what people what generally consider "intelligent" behaviours or thought-patterns and only looks at a small part of that bigger picture. 5. Education can actually raise your IQ not because you learn anything or because it correlates since you need to be particularly smart in order to get that education, but because a lot of scientific education is centred around critical thinking and problem solving skills. IQ also fluctuates throughout your lifetime as far as I know for exactly this reason. 6. That whole segment where red pants was shitting on Tyler had me malding, because she is really high up on that high horse and looking down on someone else for pretty arbitrary reasons. Also insinuating that he is narrowminded because he said that "intelligence is the ability to adapt" but she herself isn't because she takes "all these things into account" is really really sad holy shit. Part of being a scientist is understanding that believing you can actually see the entire picture on something as difficult to define as "intelligence" is insanely naïve. That woman has a crazy ego in this video, damn. I would put Tyler, Harvard dude, the girl with curly hair, the blonde, red pants and then the social media guy. That's my personal feeling on this. I'm probably gonna be rly fucking wrong Edit: At least I was pretty close Edit2: Red pants on full copium, hope she learns her lesson from being humbled like this after shitting on the others

  • Problem is though, that a higher IQ doesn't necessarily mean that said person is smarter, and the education doesn't matter a whole lot either. In general, IQ is a indicator of how well you can take in and process information, and sometimes the speed at which you do so. So someone who "only" has a high school diploma doesn't necessarily have a low IQ. It also depends on what you want to do with your future, since you can be seen as dumb and may have a low IQ, and still get your doctorate, or a high diploma in something. It just means you'll have to put in more effort than a person who would have a higher IQ, as they would not struggle as much with taking in the information.

You are bombarded with a lot of questions in a short amount of time. Sometimes you just have to throw out an answer based on your instinct, and your composure will help keep your instinct sharp. The Asian guy, the blonde girl (software developer) and the marine have these things in common. They are analytical and they can keep cool under pressure. I think the red pants can be just as analytical as those three if not more, but she lacks composure. She was quick to jump to conclusions based on incomplete information. So she probably bombed the test. All being said, 100 IQ is the average and all these people are well above average. so good job for all.

  • Some people don't understand what CBRN defense stands for. It stands for chemical,Biological,Radiological and nuclear defence like bro you have to have a pretty damn good understanding for all those to work as that. Plus he got 94% on his test if I am not mistaken which can definetly get you into any school you want. Not surpised he ended in the upper half.

    • The huge shocker to me is that nobody even asked what CBRN stood for. You'd think people with high IQ's would want to know the job of someone they're judging.

  • The best part about this is that IQ tests can be gamed. With practice you can actually progressively increase your 'score', once you know what's being tested.
