@@Jakezillagfw actually it went both ways. Godzilla was confirmed to have his ass handed to him by a Kong in the past, so the fights were a tad personal. Why oh why am I not surprised. Of all of the Kaiju, Godzilla is best described as the "brute" of the bunch. I can easily see him as the potty-mouthed brute of the bunch. Kind of like a mafia bruiser. Not just that, but I love that they gave Kong some really impressive moves, to the point of taking the proverbial second round before being completely KO'd in the third because of course serious Godzilla would win. It gives both fighters respect, despite the obvious winner.
Honestly what I really love about this film is that while it was a VS Movie where the title characters team up in the end, it didn't wimp out on the "who would win" angle. Kong gets beaten so badly that he has to get his heart restarted, monke would have died if not for human intervention.
I mean Godzilla could have charged up his breath when he had Kong pinned and killed him right then and there, but he instead said, “GIVE UP, OLD MAN! YOU AIN’T WINNING,” and then left

It’s an interesting twist on the kong lore. Human intervention was the reason why kong died in every other story.
I honestly love the emotional differences between Godzilla and Kong. Even though Godzilla is above the mindset of a regular animal he STILL has those animalistic tendencies and will full on feral people especially if he’s gotta restore balance. It’s more cold and calculating which makes sense because he’s- well a cold and calculating lizard. Kong is a giant ape and we can see even with real life Gorillas that they can be very emotionally complex and this shows in his actions like saving Jia.
I like to think that on top of that, he's a lot more unhinged in the movie now that Mothra (the ying to his yang) is out of commission, since they are opposing forces of nature.
Also, a little fun fact: when Mechagodzilla starts to get powered up by the hollow earth energy, if you listen closely, what sounds like engines revving are actually king Ghidorahs roars. Also, after it takes control, all of MechaGodzillas roars are Ghidorah roars.

There is a crap ton of nods to mythology and past Godzilla and King Kong franchises in these movies that goes unnoticed

I personally prefer KoTM, because it's not just monsters fighting, but also establishes an interesting lore (only thing GvK really explores is the hollow earth). GvK, especially Mechagodzilla, is also full with inconsistencies (where does the 2nd Ghidorah head come from, to name one). Combine KoTM's lore and treatment of the kaiju's with GvK's battle choreography and you get the perfect Monsterverse film IMO

I feel like one of the best things this movie did was showcase both Godzilla and Kong's strengths in a way that stayed true to the lore. Realistically there was no way Kong was standing up to Godzilla in a straight fight, but they used Kong's intelligence and ingenuity to even the odds. It made it so even when Godzilla inevitably came out on top, it still did Kong justice. Not an easy feat to pull off.
No it really didn't. They made Kong look like a bitch as he never did any significant damage to Godzilla. no scars, no injuries nothing. If they really wanted to show them as even then the Axe would've been made by Kong himself after ripping one of Godzilla's own spines off.

Great video. Here is an additional win: Every single one of the kaijus have their own unique fighting style. Godzilla mostly relies on brute strenghth and his atomic breath. During the final battle, he keeps spamming his atomic breath on Kong, seeing him as more of a minor obstacle in his way and trying to simply subdue him, until Kong gets a good hit with his axe on Godzilla and then sneak attacks him. Godzilla then got pissed and procceeded to end the fight as quickly as possible and attacked Kong on all fours procceeding to bite him and scratch him with his claws, just like a raging animal. Kong relied more on intelligence and tried to come up with different tactics and tools during the fight in order to counter Godzilla's atomic breath and get close to him so as to use his speed and more advanced arms to delivered close-quarters-combat combos on the slower Godzilla. Mechagodzilla was charging in battle with immense speed and strength, while also doing some outmaneuvring of his own. Plus, there was quite some character animation with Mechagodzilla not only focusing his attacks on Godzilla, but also clearly torturing him before procceeding to finish him off. Even the warbats had their own unique fighting style, since they attempted to grab on Kong and squish him, ending the fight as quickly as possible, just like a real python would do. This movie did an excellent job showcasing each kaijus strengths and weaknesses and seeing their fighting styles clash and interract was interesting......and sooooo much fun.

I mean, if that structure where true then it would just be Godzilla and Mothra at the top, seeing as they actively support and care for each other
In current studies on wolves “alpha” does get used for the parents of the rest of the pack (though some wolf packs have an aunt or uncle thrown in to help babysit the newest litter of pups). Do note that this isn’t a wild vs. captivity dichotomy as often assumed; wolves in captivity will still form family groups as in the wild. @@pokeyscorpion8224 Wow, sometimes we forget that Gojira is the strongest of his species, to the point of surviving an oxygen destroyer, unlike his mom.
The one change I'd make is a maybe 5-10 minute scene to show the absolute despair into absolute fury that would come from having your ancestral home destroyed just moments after finding it. I would do a moment where kong collapses and tries to put the rocks back together only to fail into him slowly getting up, picking up his axe, doing the gorilla chest beating roar then immediately charging up to kill godzilla.
It probably wasn't actually an ancestral home, it was likely a ritual location
I watched this with my cousins at their house at night and they had a pretty nice view of the Willis tower and the skyscrapers next to it so when we paused it for a bathroom break I looked out the window and pictured Godzilla and King Kong standing next to them to them. Gave me chills

Kong's roar translating into "How dare you, sir!" made my day.
Ok
Man I absolutely loved this movie, as have I the last two also. The idea of Ghidora being Mecha G instead of a rouge AI or something was a cool twist especially when he took over completely.
The Kong/Godzilla team up was so dope!
I love, love, _love_ the music on the opening credits. I also appreciate that we genuinely got to see Godzilla and Kong chose to fight, without mind control or something else forcing them too! We even got a definitive answer, rather than "the rightsholders won't let either one lose!"
The opening gave me Godzilla vs Destroyah vibes
Me too!
Hate to tell you,but Toho wouldn’t let Godzilla lose. That’s from the director. Story wise he SHOULD have lost, and they should have shipped MechaGodzilla to another movie. Kong should have won for the same reason Rocky Balboa wins.He was the underdog that wouldn’t quit. That’s more satisfying thematically than “ Might makes Right”.
@@toddholland7511 They at least had Kong kill MechaGodzilla.
@@toddholland7511 nah godzilla is way more powerful
There is an easter egg: MechaGodzilla's defeat being caused by alcohol is a reference to the myth of Orochi. Orochi was defeated by getting drunk, Ghidorah was inspired by Orochi, Ghidorah takes over MechaGodzilla, MechaG is defeated by alcohol.
Alchohol defeats a lot of people.
yah alcohol being used to defeat demons is pretty big in japanese myth. yamata-no-orochi(the eight headed dragon) and shuten-douji(one of the 3 great demons of japan) are of particular note
@@ShadeStormXD and yet some people were upset by it... bunch of uncultured swines, I tell ya
There’s also another reference too, it may not occur to a lot of people, but, with Kong’s inclusion, that’s technically a reference to the aliens piloting the original 1974 MechaGodzilla, alien apes to be specific, basically the movie has some nods here and there, but, when you let it sink in, it is kind of interesting, granted that Legendary’s MechaGodzilla doesn’t have apes in the mech.
@@raidenthenctzenwithinsomni4961 when they brought it out ill be honest and say i was concerned. If they had poured it on the console and mekaG had powered off id have been upset but it literally only gave the kaijus the few extra seconds they needed

15:01 OMG SOMONE finally said it thank you
Something I actually really love about the Monsterverse movies is that in every form, Ghidorah is constantly shown to be vastly superior to Godzilla in nearly every way, & the only way Godzilla is able to beat him is with human assistance, or else just luck (i.e. the earth's natural defense mechanisms aren't enough to maintain balance if humanity doesn't also work with them).
to play devil's advocate. Godzilla would've/could've won without the humans. If they didn't drop the oxygen destroyer
@@curseddragonninja22 True, but in that case, he was lucky 'cos he managed to catch Ghidora by surprise & get him into the water which is Godzilla's element.
@@SeraphimCramer True, but theirs no such thing as a fair fight to the death.
I’d like to see a scene in the next Godzilla movie where he catches maybe a lower level kaiju in the water and completely destroys them
@@curseddragonninja22 Well, going off of OP's analogy, dropping the oxygen destroyer is to a serious oil spill as godzilla is to the earth's natural defense mechanisms. Really, the moral to G:KOTM is "Stop destroying the environment and actually start helping it."
We really need a word for “that is the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen but holy crap I need to change my pants.”
That actually is the definition of the word “Awesome” awe·some adjective extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.
Terr-awe-fying
...for this movie? Really?
Omg the "I am going to take a nap here" for kong had me crying
Really love that Godzilla is what Serizawa said from the beggining, "nature has an order, a power to restore balance, I believe he is that power" and case in point he always is, anytime order is disturbed he's there kong leaves his island? He goes for him, ghidorah is alive? He goes to kill him. He patrols the sleeping place of each titan, Godzilla is a pure perservation of nature, humaity despite once worshipping him and aiding him in battle doesn't make them priorty over the world at large. And the fact that land or sea in a straight fight Godzilla just over powers kong with pure mass and ferocity
I always thought they were implying they were ancient enemies as well because what I thought it was supposed to represent is that Kongs race hunted Godzilla since his axe appeared to be made of the bone skin and scales of Godzilla.
it represented that during the war the Godzilla's that were killed got their dorsal plates harvested. It says in the book for the movie that current Godzilla killed the last of the Kong species because they were enslaving other Titans.
@@GoodSirMori Really now? That's really cool to know, so current Godzilla has most likely killed Kong's parents because they turned into slavers. Need to look more into this book
@@jlit5215 Kong's parents were killed by skullcrawlers
@@jlit5215 you can find it on amazon, its the novelization of the movie. The skull crawlers killed Kong's parents, but Godzilla wiped out the rest of them during the "war".
@@GoodSirMori that would be a dope prequel film
have to admit i do enjoy the wins more than the sins, need the positivity
Especially since at least half the sins have nothing to do with the movie but with the crew's sexual frustration and purposeful ignorance.
Always go for wins rather than sins. You'll end up more satisfied that way.
@ZAP GAMERZ Absolutely agree! Just made my comment more broad so there's less chance of rebukes.
@ZAP GAMERZ have you watched Birdman? He's a youtuber that calls out on their bullshit. You have no idea how many times they've purposely edited their videos to lie.
@ZAP GAMERZ Welcome to the club then my friend! Love to see his channel grow.
the greatest thing about this movie it has not one but THREE DAYTIME FIGHTS (two gvk fights and one kong vs warbat fight) literally all movies have mainly nighttime fights to 1 daytime fight but this one has three best thing ever
Also, I really like how Mecha Godzilla uses the Raseangan.
Going into this movie I had my money on Godzilla winning against Kong. And although he is basically the villain of the movie I still rooted for him. And the final battle between Kong, Godzilla and MechaGodzilla was absolutely amazing!
To be fair Godzilla did win Kong legit died in the movie.main humans did CPR on Kong
I don't even see Godzilla as the villain. I see it just like Lee said: he's doing what he has to do and Kong doesn't realize he's being used by the bad guys. If you've played Devil May Cry series, it's like when Dante, the main protagonist of the series and who you usually play as, shows up at the beginning of DMC4 and straight up murders people and now you control this new guy to fight him. Nah Nero. Dante is still the hero. You're a good guy too and there are some good people in your organization, but your organization itself is just the worst.

@penguins imma report u
The point is still good. Kong is a potential ally. Godzilla may save humanity in the process of protecting his throne. Humanity really did need Kong. Humanity grows too powerful and Godzilla will try to wipe it out.
@@Flaris Still doesn't add up to the point that the previous movies showcase Godzilla defending the Earth while Kong was just sitting on his island. Seems like the world needs Godzilla more than Kong from my perspective.
13:00 if you look back to the Godzilla skull around the time Kong picks up the axe, you'll get the distinct impression that these two species were not friends.
It's not exactly a Godzilla skull, but it has been confirmed to be a closely related Gojira species. But yeah, they were absolutely not allies in any way; the Kong species hunted Gojiras and used their bodies for weapons
10:29 if you listen carefully u can literally hear the warbat yelling the f word
One of my favorite moments in this film was the scene where it looks like the energy failed to power up Mechagodzilla. You get the typical villain monologue in the foreground but in the background you see Mechagodzilla develop a mind of its own and work on its own accord. This turn of events happens out of focus but yet when it happened, everyone in my cinema screamed. That's powerful film making, when a background moment has as much meaning as what's happening in the foreground. Am I the only one who thinks this was a missed win?
Yeah. Ikr
And the Jaws references in Pensacola and Hong Kong with Godzilla’s dorsal plates coming out. I get goosebumps
When my friends and I discussed it, the conclusion we came to was this: Overall, we are ready for a kaiju movie where the kaiju themselves *are* the MCs. Speaking personally, I was actually cool with the Kong group of humans, but the Godzilla human subplot was frustrating because it was either exposition, or it were jokes or characterization that fell flat. But Godzilla vs Kong, and then Godzilla and Kong vs MechaGodzilla were great because the facial animation and choreography were done well enough where a viewer can infer what's going on.
Personally, the Godzilla humans would have been better if it was Brian Cranston, Ken Watanabe, the dad from the second movie and beautiful Asian lady that I always forget her name but know who she is lady, only. They have a better screen presence.
Too much money to spend and that woukd take way longer
Well it’s always a staple for Monster movies. What they should’ve done is of course making the human actors as supporting characters for the plot and not the other way around.
@@snailthelostcow63 Not always, the Gamera trilogy and Godzilla vs Biollante are two examples where the human plot was pretty interesting.
Fun fact that 4 legged lizard in hollow earth was actually a branch of the Titanus gojira family which is what Godzilla defended from. Soooo all fours Godzilla? Also there was a war between the Kong and Godzilla species . That skull Kong pulled the axe from was made from a dead godzillas dorsal plant and a huge bone from a larger creature in the Godzilla family. That skull belonged to one of those very large godzillas which was exicuted in front of all the kongs and their king.
I love this channel & I have to say this is the best editing I've seen, the metal albums were laugh out loud perfection!. I rented this movie just so I could then watch your vid on it.
The final battle was pure pro wrestling. I could practically hear Jim Ross. And that's what was so fun
"MY GAWD!!!"
"GOOD GAWD ALL MIGHTY, HE'S BROKEN IN HALF"
Whilst I will admit the score can hit you in the right place for KvG, you just can't top Bear McCreary and his work in KotM. My man put so much hard work into that score.
I listened to pieces from KotM while I workout. So many great pieces.
As much as I adore GMK's OST, the soundtrack for KotM is the pinnacle of Godzilla music.
at the beginning i was constantly laughing when godzilla roars, cuz it sounds like he always has a voicecrack while roaring
@4:16 I think that it's awesome that the closest moment we have with Godzilla still shows how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things - Godzilla is the steward of the entire Earth and his duties go far beyond saving just humankind. Watanabe essentially sacrificing himself and barely getting acknowledgment from Godzilla brings the unpredictable aspect of Godzilla - he is the balancer of nature, but at what point does he turn his attention to us? Humanity has shown the capability to create Kaiju and I don't think Godzilla is going to just let that continue. He is the cautionary tale against the lust for power and domination, whereas Kong is the embodiment of the exploring spirit and empathizes with humanity and their wish for self-preservation in the face of monsters.
The intro for the movie absolutely AWESOME showing us a basic recap of the movie, and the MUSIC was absolutely on point
The music was great, but in my theater the music was so loud I had to cover my ears every time that kicked in during a fight sequence.
Honestly watching the opening credits felt something like a WWE fight
I remember watching this movie and thinking "badass bad guy" almost every time Godzilla was on screen until mechagodzilla came along and proved that the OG was actually a bad ass good guy
The best movie in the MonsterVerse so far! Glad that it cemented this cinematic universe along with Marvel and DC
4:24 godzilla actually didnt attack mark russel and the crew later on because he got the scent of serizawa on them. so he was grateful!
The exact moment I saw the hovertrains through the underground tunnels connecting Florida to Hong Kong I thought: "Oh. So this is modern, big-budget treatment of a silly Showa-era Godzilla vs. film? Cool." And on that level, it absolutely does not disappoint.
It absolutely does disappoint, since the actual Versus Battle is barely a footnote in the overall plot
@@Valtharr hell no. The four fights were fantastically done and paced well from each other
13:49 I honestly broke out in laughter watch the movie the first time at this scene, I just love how Kong’s face is, he looks like he’s thinking “Look how insignificant these tiny apes are”.
"Look at what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power"
The word for super cool but terrifying is awesome, awe us the feeling of inspiration, amazement and terror all caused by the same thing
yeah but, unfortunately the term has been diluted and distorted to just mean really great. not the worst distoriton of a word I've seen (gay comes to mind) but, yeah not typically what people mean when they use Awesome anymore.
6:29 You might be right, because in Ghidorah the three headed monster, when his roars were translated Godzilla was literally cursing
Beside Godzilla and Kong fighting, the Hollow Earth Sequence was amazing. Honestly it reminds me of the game “Gravity Rush”, and it’s amazing. Plus I always love the note that Kong can do Sign Language.
Gravity Rush is great. ❤
To answer the question on if there's a word for something being "cool" and "terrifying" at the same time, the word literally "Awesome" Awesome is a play on "Awe" which also means "Terror". Thus the original meaning of "Awesome" was "Terrorsome".
17:22 What you Said right Now is The Only Thing in This Video that Totally Makes Sense
16:41 that reminds me a quote that I shall now bring here "Such devastation... This was not my intention..."-Gaius (van) Baelsar I dunno.
I have been taking an ASL class here for a few years in college, as my language for my degree. I watched this movie, then in the next ASL class I half jokingly told my deaf teacher that Kong signed better than I did, which she though was very funny.
The sign language was quite well done in this movie, I thought. The girl is a native signer, so she of course was fine, and the woman playing her guardian looked like someone who actually knew sign language rather than how it comes across with most actors who look like they learned a few gestures right before the cameras rolled. She wasn't perfect given that her signs were just a little too broad and stiff, but she was better than average, especially for a Hollywood blockbuster.
After 2014 Godzilla, I went into the movies only expecting to see big monsters fight and I was never let down. Honestly, the humans getting less story impact is fine by me since this is really Godzilla's and Kong's movie
Even in the older movies, it’s canon that Godzilla knows judo to an extent. Not surprising that judo would be his martial art of choice considering his build.
