Great Job Double D you showed that wood off great. Side note the "A" in Mallee is sounded the same as the "A" in Daniel 😁
Thanks for the clarification, Sid!
I love this bowl from a burl.
Thank you, Jean! I am glad you liked it!
That is stunning my friend. Take care Daniel. Cheers, Huw
Thank you, Huw! I was pretty amazed by that graining!

Could not see what you could do with this piece of wood then WOW a unique piece
Thank you for the feedback, Sue! I truly appreciate that!
What an amazing piece of wood. That looks incredible. 😎 Looked like getting those cuts started out on the wing was giving you a run for your money. Great job Double-D!
Thanks, Tim! It was definitely hard, but 100% worth it!
It's pronounced Mallee as in Sally and valley. It's one of Australia's better known timbers that comes from the south west. Mix the Mallee burl with Jarrah in a jewelry box and see the magic.
Thanks for the clarification! Unfortunately it's pretty expensive for me to get over here, but I'll keep that in mind!
Suhweeeet!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Bruce! It was pretty awesome to see!
bloody good job pronounced mallee ,Mal Lee
Thank you for the feedback and the pronunciation!
Beautiful!
Thank you kindly!
Дуже гарно❤
Thank you very much!
Absolutely gorgeous work, brother! One of my favorites from you!
Thank you, Seth! I appreciate the kind words!!!
Wow!
I don't know if I could have said it better! Thank you for the feedback!
Very nice. Hope I get a chance to work with that. Keep it up
Thank you, Arnold! It is definitely worth it!
Amazing 👏👏👏
Thank you, John! I appreciate that!°
@@TournageDubois that design was awesome
Thanks! I really enjoy winged bowls!
Beautiful piece of wood and love what you did with it👍
Thank you, Luie!!! I appreciate that feedback!
It did look tough but the final result was beautiful 🤩
Thank you, Aunt Bee!
Nice job on the Mallee Burl. It would be like turning concrete!! I am lucky living in Australia and have Mallee Red Burl available quite cheaply. I am a pen turner and use Mallee Red and Mallee Brown in a heap of my pens. I had to resort to Carbide Tips a lot of the time as, like you, I was resharpening my gouge (a good quality Sorby) quite often. BTW - there is no "R" in Mallee. Just sayin'. Take care and thanks for sharing
Thank you, David! I am a little jealous, but that's the nice thing about the internet, is the possibility of getting all sorts of things from all over! I always like to try new things, and I was amazed by how beautiful was!
Isn’t Red Mallee burl just the greatest? I do personally prefer it with a gloss finish, but that is just my opinion. Beautiful either way. Great job with the turning.
Thanks, Doug! I might try another with gloss!
@@TournageDubois I think it brings out the color and movement just a bit more. I can send pics if you’d like to see the one I did.
Awesome piece! I am with you on finishes. I prefer a satin/matte finish as well. How is the new lathe? Will you be doing a review beyond your initial build video?
Thanks, John! I absolutely will be talking about it as I go, and try and incorporate my thoughts after a while. Still getting used to it!
Really beautiful, Daniel. How well does it sit? Bill
Thanks, Bill! It sits perfect!!!
Wow!! That's a beautiful piece. I've read that Malee was like turning a brick and you confirmed it. As a beginner, I have a question though - why didn't you power sand the wings with the 2" discs instead of hand sanding? Was that a preference or do you get better results hand sanding? Thanks for sharing this video! 👍🏾
Thanks, Greg! And welcome to the wood turning family! I did do SOME power sanding on the wings, but it can cause some issues where the corner is between the wing and the bowl. So I power sanded as much as I could, then hand sanded up close (if that makes sense).
@@TournageDubois Ahhh, OK. I just wondered when I didn't see you power sand. Yes, it makes perfect sense. Thanks for your explanation!
No worries! Happy to help out!
mallee is great, have youtried liqued amber if not let me know iwill see if i can get some to send
I have not even heard of it (under that name). I Googled it and know of Sweetgum, but have never seen any other than pictures.
Love the burl. Where you get it from
Thanks, Ken! I got it from ExoticWoodZone.com.
1st 🤣🤣
LOL
Was there any doubt, Huw? Bill
@@williamellis8993 ,🤣🤣🤣😁😁🏆🏆
As an Ausi this is not a butt but the base root
Good to know, and thanks for the info! Do the burls usually only grow on the roots?
@@TournageDubois yes as used to use them for firewood
Good to know!
Beautiful piece, but one correction: mallee is pronounced with a short “a”, so it rhymes with “alley”
Thanks for the clarification, and the feedback!
PS you thought that was hard you need to try some old Redgum or Yellow Box LOL
I would love to some day.... maybe if I ever get to Australia!!!!!
You did a great job with this one - it's truly stunning wood and so so hard on the tools! I turned this larger piece, had to turn it outboard due to it's size - can't wait to get my hands on some more. Great to see you! kzhead.info/sun/oMV8pK6ghHt4YK8/bejne.html
Thanks! I was nervous, being my first piece and all! Got another piece in process, but it will be another video!
@@TournageDubois I look forward to watching! 👍
