Not gonna lie this really made me want a Ryuma mini series. Netflix out here making a statement this year that they are the place to go for One Piece. They were saying they wanted a big series after Stranger Things wraps and I think they just found it

My favorite part about Monsters is Ryuma is talking about how he would love to fight the King who is the greatest swordsman and then at the end you realize he is the king but he doesn't even know it! So good the first time I read it I was blown away

Need more of these OVA type of things set in the one piece world. I would watch an Ace movie based on the light novel, or literally just any side character whose backstory (like Kid) doesn’t really get explored on panel.
They would make bank by turning the Ace novels into a movie on Netflix

That Thriller Bark scene at the end made my jaw drop. Of course I knew the Zoro/Ryuma stuff, but I was not expecting to see that scene.

Since the SBS Oda do after Thriller Bark arc we know Monsters was canonical with One Piece. It is more clear now with the ending scene of this special episode but Monsters always be tie-in with One Piece. And since Thriller Bark people known connexion with Ryuma can be possible in two medias.
To correct myself from the live chat, Ryuma was voiced by Robbie Daymond in English. I didn't see the credits at the end. Another website told me it was Ian Sinclair. ^_^;

@@portsyde3466 yeah Netflix dubbed it so aside from Chris Sabat (Zoro and therefore Narrator) they got their own VAs on it. I know that’s a weird statement, but Crunchyroll is based in Texas while Netflix uses an LA based studio so they tend to use VAs closer to their headquarters more often than not.

Just watched it now and absolutely loved it! I havent read the manga for this so I went completely blind and it was totally worth it. The ending really caused goosebumps At first ı was like "what is wrong with the art style, everyone looks normal in this village where is the weird people " And then the guy with the horn showed up and everything was perfect again 😂😂

I really dont understand how everyone cant see the similarity between ryuma slashing shirano and zoro doing shishisonson. Thats literally the same technique without the name of the attack screamed.

Im one of the few people who enjoys the prequels more. I love the flashy, over the top fights and just everything overall. I grew up with them and they were fun for me. Definitely nostalgia goggles but i think they are great

its a bit anticlimactic but the scene where ryuma cross sword with villain(no spoiler), thats amazingly animated, not just some streak of colors like OP
We should definitely get more of these OVA's or Movies that can explore the extensive universe of One Piece based on backstories outside of the straw hats. imo some cool OVA or movie ideas based on backstories would be: Ace based on the light novel, a Whitebeard one about his life from orphan to the Whitebeard pirates (after a bit more info comes out about the rocks crew) potentially adding the fight with crocodile in as well, possibly one about Toki before she travelled to Oden's time (though this might just happen in the story itself), and finally something about Birka, the island that Enel destroyed before he went to skypiea, and the origins of Enel

I'm very early on the story of One Piece, Alabasta saga (almost done with it). Can I watch this anytime or no because of spoilers?
There is a slight spoiler at the end (a Zoro scene you will experience much later) but without context I think it will mean not much to you yet.
I feel like if you watch the special on its own and didn't know it was canon to one piece, you'd be insanely confused by the end scene, still hype though.

I liked it. But it really did feel like just a pilot. I would’ve loved for this to be a full series, even a miniseries. And maybe some more outside references to the One Piece world. But I did like the way they linked it to Thriller Bark in the end. I think the only thing they haven’t adapted from the Wanted compilation is Wanted itself. I would love to see it adapted.

I still think it not canon. What was imply so far in the story didnt work out. Oda have to add these to make this canon -Ryuma actually leave Wano country at some point in time and come back and die in Wano (in manga it imply that he always in wano and protect it from outsiders) -There are 2 Dragon ,one in random town and one in Flower capital I would love to see more Ryuma flashback if we really get it in manga. Joyboy flashback with a complilation of Onepiece world history from 100 year void to other century onward would be the best. We can see Ryuma before he died and how he got one eye too.
It is canon, oda confirmed it years ago. Also, seeing how monsters clearly takes place outside of Wano, the statement in the manga of Ryuma slicing a dragon over wano’s capital must be referring to an event separate from this one
