Yemen's blind nine-year-old war-zone school teacher - BBC News

In Taiz, Yemen, hundreds of children arrive for lessons each day in the ruins of a school near front-line fighting between the government and Houthi rebels.
Ahmed, a nine-year-old boy who has been blind since birth, steps in to teach classes when the teachers can't make it.
One in every five Yemeni schools is out of use, according to Unicef. But at this one, teachers decided to open it despite the damage, so that education could continue.

  • This is heartbreaking, made me cry. Children deserve to be children. I am in awe of how these kids continue to go to school. Education (and seeing their friends), - the importance of having some form of continuity is so important even in this pandemic yet alone a war zone. The kid teaching is amazing, bless him. They still have hope despite their circumstances. As an educator, it serves as a reminder of the hope that education brings.

That young child has had so much taken from him; he’s angelic in his repose and desire to make the world a better place. Adults that wage war could learn from the innocent desires of children, without all the ugliness that can come with years of selfishness.

  • This is why the arms trade needs to be put down and sanctions preventing food and medicine getting in need to be lifted. Australia, America, the UK, and every other country who continues to self weapons for profit has an ocean of blood on their hands. Politicians and businessmen aren't going to change that so until we’re all in the streets protesting this, destroying weapon shipments before they can be sold, and holding our governments accountable, we are all complicit

  • Here is where the US can show us what a great power is. A most militia country in the world only to make everything themselves priority. As a leader of the world, A responsibility should be taken without someone else’ reminding.
