2nd Place Winner, Master Sommelier, Fernando Beteta in decanting station.
7 minutes to do full wine service. "1981 Grace Family Cabernet Sauvignon" Judges are Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and NYC Top Wine Professionals
Always fascinating to see folks who truly care about their craft. Thank you for sharing!
I love this ritual. I used to work at restaurants and people dont really care, unless you do some really dumb stuff, but as a sommelier/waiter, that was how we defined excellence among us. Now I put on a serios face an see how they get nervous, I get a kick out it, but i always let them know I used to do that, too.
3 Reasons: to separate the wine from any sediment in the bottle. Let a wine breath and to also bring it to temperature from the cooler cellar.
Guys, part of the enjoyment of living is making rituals. This is awesome.
Thanks for posting this, Fernando.
Wonderful Video. Thank you for posting, this was very helpful.
Great video..thanks Fernando
There is nothing wrong with the lady. She is not mean or pretentious. She is doing her job. She has to be critical.
agreed. this is a competition. even when she said "I'd like everyone to know that i'm drinking this wine", it was a joke, she wasn't serious. it was all to test this man behavior in those kind of situations. this is not an easy job and he always needs to be prepared for anything.
Clearly, the lady has an acute sense of humor about the situation, and his helping Mr. Beteta with his presentation.
she's a pain in da ass...
Sounds to me people think this job is like waiting tables it's not... It's like being executive chef of all wines. You need to know the flavor texture regions these wines where made its actually an impossible task that's why there are only 180 or so masters at this trade.
233 i believe right now, one of the most difficult test to past since the 1969
Not just wines. All bar beverages. Gins. Bourbons. Cognacs. Vodkas. Tequilas. Etc.
@@SingleMaltBuckeye The test itself is just wine. So you dont need to know spirits to become a master sommelier.
Too add to this, just because you’re a master Somm doesn’t mean you know everything about wine. It just means you know more than most. You also forget things over time or don’t learn what’s current. There’s no way one person can retain every vintage for every wine produced. It’s too much and too complex since wines change over time.
If there are 180 o 233 it means it's not impossible; it's extremely difficult.
Nice insight into the competition, like the fact even in a compettion you blagged about the wine info a little!
Congratulation! Great decanting.
i find interesting the fact that an event of this caliber they are using room service trolleys instead of using proper gueridons, and even worse the table clothes full of wrinkles and uneven
Jordi Alvarez and the camera work is lousy😂😂😂
Don't need a song and dance just pour the fucking wine!
i know this is an older clip...but i want to know the lady is at the table! I love her and her commentary at the end! "i want folks to know I'm drinking the wine [...] and I'm important[...]" I love it! lmao! I know that made my guy at some bits of ease at the end of his presentation of this comp.
thanks for posting this video, 1 question: do guests mind if you pour what you drank into the decanter?
Why am i watching this i don't even like wine
cause its really interesting!!
Well done!
what is the porpouse of decanting?
As long as it doesn't taste like vinegar, what's the point of this whole charade? Just crack the bottle and get on with it.
@mlsprovideos don't forget you have to know the tast of wine and knowledge about the wine, thats take alot of practise.
Nice!
@pizzlemank NO ,If they know the reason why (to double check the condition of the wine). YES, if he is greedy and does not want to waste an expensive sip of wine with the sommelier.
The hell did I just watch...?
Do you purposely pour over the candle?
Yes. To check to make sure any sediment isn't going down the neck into the decanter.
Interesting... they should serve beer and milk shakes like this.
Lol yeah and do it right
Different classes
Whole milk gang
and get to be a Starbucks Sommelier?!?
Ive seen other videos of correct way eg 1.35 arent you suppose to bring the cradle or the wine holder to the wine instead of putting the wine into the cradle/wine holder like the opposite way?
Cuanto protocolo locooo
ναι
GAS ME UP
I actually don't think it's pretentious. America is very much a food loving country but the art of service has gone out the window. Eating out and spending time with my family is one of the few things that I'm willing to pay a lot of money for. Bad service and lack of knowledge can ruin the whole experience. The best experience is to go learn something you didn't know before (make a new sommelier friend) and enjoy a dinner you've worked terribly hard for. But different folks, different strokes.
It is incredibly pretentious. You may enjoy the pretension, but it is still pretentious.
Im 17, i cant even drink, why am i watching this
Πολλά τα λάθει του οινοχόου.
Δημήτριος Διρχαλίδης όπως ;
presentation of bottle is on the left side!!!! like service from silver!!!
Tutto sbagliato ,non ha avvinato i bicchieri degli ospiti , e non ho capito l'uso della candela, so a cosa serve , ma, ha versato tutto il vino senza nessuna dimistigatezza.
Imagine hanging out with those snobs.
Proceed to heat the bottle over the candle and tell the guests that you're bringing the wine to room temperature as it's been in the wine cellar.
vee tour isn’t the candle there to show transparency in the bottle as you pour the wine in the large glass and avoid the cinnamon that is at the bottom of an old wine bottle?
It's to see the wine flow through the neck of the bottle as you pour it into the decanteur. Ensures you don't pour the sediment and impurities that are at the bottle of the bottle.
Forget all the pomp and circumstance and just pour and drink the Damm wine if you like it fine if not move to one that you do.
Not the best .He didn't even clean the wine cap after removing the cork.
This guy was making too much noise and needed to slow down a bit.
Rob Smith you have a time limit of 4 minutes.
This is what the 1% is doing with the money from the 99% while we all struggle to survive.
SO OBNOXIOUS. IT'S OVERKILL. THE DECANTING WITH THE CANDLE IS SO STUPID.
Worst competition ever
Pretentious horsecrap.
