Video on how to restore a wrench. Here I am restoring an old rusty German wrench. In this restoration I removed rust, sanded, buffed, and applied paint.
▬ What did I do ?! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this video, I put the wrench in a bath with rust remover. Next, I sand the surface to create optimal conditions for the primer. Before priming, I mask off all areas that shouldn't get any color. The next step is that I apply the primer and, once dry, paint it with hammer blow paint and a brush. After removing the tape, I polish the mouth of the wrench to a shine. I top off the restoration by tracing the numbers and characters with white paint and a toothpick.
▬ Good to know ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I've always felt that old rusty wrench. That's why I can't say exactly where I got it from. Since it is already so badly worn, you can also see the mark of the company that made it. That's why I can't say anything about that either. In principle, this restoration was just a test. I have to say it wasn't that easy, you had to see if the picture was flickering (due to the exposure), the neighbor is quiet, no music is nearby, and so on in order to achieve a wonderful result. Because it was my very first restoration, I am very satisfied with the result! You too?
I used the following tools: cordless screwdriver, wire brush, tape, knife, rust remover, primer, top coat, orbital sander, file, toothpick
It took me about 9 hours to restore, without the paint drying time.
▬ Chapter ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
0:00 Look at the old wrench
0:35 Remove coarse dirt from the wire brush
1:10 Place the wrench in rust remover
2:28 Work the mouth with sandpaper
4:43 Polish the mouth of the wrench to a shine
5:44 Prepare for the coloring
6:30 spray on primer
8:50 Color in with a hammer blow
12:34 Polish the surfaces again
12:58 Copy characters and numbers with white paint and a toothpick
14:46 Look at the completely restored wrench

  • I like the camera work. Better than some of the restoration videos I have seen. They all got better over time. Started watching the Fix vise restoration first, then started with the oldest vid first so I can binge watch all of them. And, please, don't add music to them. I watch music videos all the time. And restoration videos. No need to mix them. Good luck. I have subscribed. Oh, and I love that you left your "bad idea" in.

  • Restoring a tool or any object is a totally different thing than tuning and pimping it. Your first attempt is more of the later ones. The wrench has not ever been painted as paint is not resistant to all the abuse a tool like this will face being used. A bit of the same problem is faced with filling, sanding and painting of cast iron, for example in vises. To call old tools ancient is also false. Stone age tools for example are ancient not tools made in a factory, they are just old or maybe antique

    • Gasoline and piece of cotton? Soft wire brush? Three drops of conservation oil, and dry it out? And its done. Goooood job! Let the tool-soul inside. It soul of your father and granpa...etc. Dont do exorcist act like this amateur. Pseudo restaurator. Old things are beautiful and with soul, story. He is exorcist. Acid, flame, electrolyze, acid again, coffe bath, cut it, speay it by paint first time of tool life, no soul still inside....amen...history definitively cleared, deleted

  • One question: why do you think the original new tool is without paint or varnish? Only chrome or clear homogenne metal. For work safety. Because of the many parts of the peeling hard paint in your eyes in case you work overhead. In history, they have not had the option of acrylic glasses. They were not invented. but if you want to have chipped hard paint stuck in your hands ...it' your freedom...This is really not good job. Dozens of people could have these tools in their hands, and they might have done great things with it. Acid, eletrolyze, electric shocks, overthrow from Mount Everest, sand paper, wire brush, acid, water, alcohol, screwdriver brush, gasoline, moderm metalic paint is realy not renovation....it is sterilization of it's souls. You are tool exorcist.... (I'm aircraft (mig21) engineer, and sound engineer in very old Prague city, older then facebook and instagram together...for slower ones) Really? Wow !
