Geduev is truly one of a kind. Defeating the defending Olympic Champion is not as easy as some may think. Sucks he couldn't win gold
They’ve stolen gold from him, obviously Geduev was a lot better in the match against Yazdsni, but the referees did everything not to let him finish the match with technical superiority. They always stopped the match, put a bandage on his head covering his neck and making him suffocate the rest of the match, and despite all that Geduev was still leading the match but referee just gave Yazdani those last two points while Geduev was holding his leg and Yazdani didn’t get full control behind Geduev and yet the referee gave those last decisive points to Yazdani. Geduev won that match with 6:4 score, but the referee robbed him from this victory and his dream, life is unfair!
It is unfair, and I truly wish Geduev and Yazdani had a proper rematch at 86kg in Tokyo. He would have won with ease against Yazdani

Good match. Geduev wrestled well both offensively and defensively. I really hate to see Burroughs lose though.
Great match. Burroughs has class even in a loss. No covering his face, laying on his back and making the opponent wait; just gets up, goes to his spot, shakes hands with the opponent and the coaching team. I would like to see a standard end of match procedure like judo: opponents go to their spots, shake hands, then official signals the winner. Then both acknowledge the crowd, the opposing coaches/team and then celebrate.

I have been part of wrestling for 30 years, jr high, high school, college and wrestled all styles. Why are a lot of freestyle mats so loose with the covering? Strange question I know, I see it a lot when watching international matches. I wrestled in Fargo and don’t remember the mat being like a tarp. What’s the deal?
I've always wondered too... I wrestled in high school and thought I just didn't have enough experience so I never asked. It doesn't look like any mat I've ever seen
Wrestling is not only about power, but also about technique. Sometimes power helps you win a match, and sometimes technique. US wrestlers usually have the power, but lack that technique. Jordan is a good example. If you watch the final, you can see both Yazdani and Geduev showing off their technique and power.

That last push out wasnt a push out. They both went out together. Most referees rule that they go back to stand up. This referee gave the Russian a point for a push out. Not consistent with most rulings.

How did the Russian get 1 of the points? I didn't see where he earned it? What did i miss?
The amount of dirty tactics I saw in this match by Geduev is disgraceful at best. Pause the video at 10:35 if you disagree. There is shot defense, and then there is blatant dirty wrestling. Geduev literally digs his fingers into Burroughs' right eye to fend off the shot in that clip. Other observations: 1) Referee does well at first, then fails to control the antics throughout the match. EVERY single whistle, Geduev is continuing to push in and/or grind his head right into Burroughs' face seconds after the whistle. (which is why Jordan shoved Geduev at the beginning). 2) The eye pokes and swipes to the face were to draw blood on Jordan's face so that the ref can stop the match constantly for blood cleanup. The stoppages are a HUGE russian advantage because Geduev has a TERRIBLE gas tank. 3) 10:48 - should have been 1 point Burroughs, not Geduev. The rules for scoring on a push out ONLY involve the whole foot, the elbow, or the head, NOT the hand (not even both hands). Freeze this frame and Geduev's head touches first. Geduev knows deep down inside he can't beat Burroughs straight up, plus he's juiced to the core and therefore has no tank when he's cutting 20+ lbs. so of course you get the antics plus a move up in weight afterwards. It's pathetic and he'll never win a world or olympic title with that nonsense.

Wow someone beat Burroughs! Is Burrughs not so dominating anymore as he used to be? I have 0 knowledge of wrestling but have watched some matches and Burroughs seemed not se aggressive in this match.
Burroughs was in his prime at the 2016 Olympics, but he wrestled a bad tournament. Nowadays he is not as dominant as he used to be, but I'd say he didn't start declining/slowing down until 2019. He even won a world title in Oslo, proving he's still elite.
