  • The Contender series with Yodsaenklai & JWP got millions of people into fighting, and one of the big reasons why MMA grew was people saying Muay Thai fighters weren’t complete fighters off the back of the popularity of Muay Thai, but the truth is nobody likes to watch 25 minutes of grappling. Muay Thai was king before that, and for the most part the best MMA fights are the ones where people stand up and fight.

Having a Muay Thai/Kickboxing division would definitely be a huge success. Especially since people (in general) love striking far more than grappling. I suspect Dana believes that setting divisions for other fighting sports would cut into MMA viewership and that's why he hasn't done. Although all views would go to the event at the end of day. Anyway I'd love to see a Kickboxing and a BJJ division someday. Let other martial artist get that bread and the spotlight.

If one of them isn't associated in that capacity, it's going to be missing something gravely for the start of that business. Even with them, they'll probably need supporting commentators, but I think that's enough to start. Another thing: Chael not being a UFC commentator up there with Anik, Bisping, Cruz, Daniel MF No Popeye's Cormier, and Joe is a TRAAAAAVESTY. I don't now who is responsible for making those decisions, but they're a dummy for not noticing Chael's absolutely dominance of storytelling -- the most influential and skill in human history -- as well as his ability to communicate at a high-level while navigating the pitfalls and traps attempted by others. It's damn astounding. Chael is a Black Belt manipulator, blacksmith in crafting perspective, black tar heroin. Every sentence that comes out of this dude's mouth on social media is form of perspective manipulation, and he knows it. The MF could entertain a bus, or even a Nogueira brother.

The problem where Chael and I part ways is when he said that elbows and knees are too brutal. If Joe wants to make just a kickboxing promotion, he'd be competing with Glory. And that already has a lot of legendary fighters. Joe SHOULD go with real Muay Thai, and include Pradal Serey and Lethwei (and other styles like Savate, and various styles of karate and striking who want to compete too) under rulesets that would include elbows and knees. Everything else? Chael's 100% correct. If anyone could put it together, it would be someone with the influence of a Joe Rogan.

  • Real Muay Thai is crazy, but Lethwei is even crazier. It’s basically Muay Thai with headbutts. I knew a guy in my gym who was a lethwei fighter who would go to Burma and fight. But he does both. Both Muay Thai in Thailand and Lethwei. Lethwei is nuts. If they can get bareknuckle fighting legalized, they can get Lethwei legalized in the USA. It’s only legal in Myanmar. I.e. Burma.

  • It will only become popular if they use 4oz gloves and allow knees and elbows. Basically it must be MMA without grappling. At least that's the only way I'd be interested.

  • I always love that Chael says basketball has one ruleset but the reality is that NFHS, NCAA, NBA, and FIBA all have different rulesets. Even further street ball has different rules, or more like lack thereof, and half court 3v3 tournaments have different rules. Even the court sizes are different and the official game ball is different too.

  • To be honest i think ONE gonna do fine on its own, Rodtan vs Superlek is at a million views right now on youtube, really no need to have anyone else step in, Glory is meh, but the talent pool is a bit lacking, i like the elbows and the knee's thats the science of 8 limbs, that IS true to tradition Muay Thai ... The best fights right now are happening at One Championship MT, hands down ... the best of the best, fighting for the top spot and there's non stop action and knockouts, and thats what people want to see ...

They are set over there already, and have signed the best in the world - fighters like Petrosyan, Allazov, Rodtang, Taewanchai, Superbon, and most recently Takeru. If UFC somehow goes this route, they are going to be class B, because the best guys are with ONE.
