I love seeing Griffin do anything live because his anxiety is palpable but he still gets on stage and does so well. It's such an inspiration
Otis Murdoch this 1000%
Not just a live speech where its just him; but he also talks about their mom which I know is extremely difficult for all three of them. They don't talk about her often, but when they do I'm always so glad that they had such a wonderful person in their life who made them who they are today.
@@WhiteDragoon68 I lost my mom to cancer as well, and I think finding out that they lost their mom is what really made me love them as much as I do. Seeing how close they are as a family and how they've done such great things together gives me hope for myself as I try to figure out what my life without my mom is going to be like.
He has a lot of Neil Peart energy in person. He understands his impact on his fans but his struggle with interacting with them (and by extension accepting his success) makes him less than personable. He's a great dude but it takes an insurmountable amount of energy to maintain the version of him that people see on stage because that person is him from a safe space of family.
"Are you hiring?" "For what?" "Anything?" Griffin forgets that he's at a college.
Cue It's Always Sunny theme
"It is important that you remember I am a clown-man, I am a child-boy, with very few marketable skills"
Chantal Bellmont this line made me feel that griffin is in some universe a parody of john mulaney
and yet he himself, his perfect child boy self is a marketable skill
3:15 (putting a time stamp for myself since I rewatch this so often:))
Very upset that I graduated before i had the opportunity to make this my senior quote
Griffin looked at Brian David Gilbert's application video and was like "Ok, perfect, i leave Polygon in perfectly good hands, i can leave"
"And I've got a countdown timer 'til I'm destitute!"
My hier
My true successor....
I'd like to imagine it was a Charlie and the Chocolate factory esque situation
@Ruby Gee legends never die
It always blows my mind that this is the guy who told me "when you nut in space, it push you backwards."
HOLY SHIT THERES A 4:20 AM TOO????? YEAAAA-
this is also the man who at a bannana with the fucking peel on
"It is important that you remember I am a clown-man, I am a child-boy, with very few marketable skills"
He's not wrong.
I cannot believe that Griffin said "weird flex" during a speech
It's Griffin I'd believe a lot of things that would come out of his sweet baby brother mouth hole
I can
It's fucking Griffin!! What else would he say!?
He also said “weird looney toons fan fiction”
why yes i will watch griffin talk for an hour and a half thank you
I'm replaying it right after finishing it the first time, because not only is it as entertaining as we could expect from our buddy Griff, He has some really good statements and ideas about work ethic and leveraging your connections.
This was literally my exact reaction, too. I was so happy to see that there was an hour and a half of just Griffin.

Ok but he did so, so good and it makes me Cry.
started watching this just cause it's griffin, realized mid way through that this might be exactly what I need to hear right now while i'm unemployed and feeling lost
Rachel Sarchet Glad you were able to find this helpful, I hope you find good luck in your future. Best wishes
Amen, same here
Rachel Sarchet, you’ve got this. You’re going to be great! Keep your head up and always remember... “clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose”
I believe in you!!
Oof same. Im not into the main part yet but that sounds like me, too
Griffin is honestly a treasure, I'm the leather jacket with short brown hair and I was so excited to go see him. He brought 40 free signed copies of the adventure zone comic and he was so nice to everyone
❤ that melts my heart
I'm only three hours from FSU and I'm so angry I didn't know he was coming. I would have been there in a heartbeat.
@@katelynchester6690 As a person who goes to FSU, I barely knew it was happening. I don't know if the McElroy's purposely didn't talk much about it or if it was more the fault of the student group that was running the event, but it wasn't well advertised. Made for a good, private feeling experience, though, as opposed to massive crowds of a normal event.
This doesn’t surprise me at all
I’m terrified of you sentient leather jacket with hair
I hope he really does recognize what an extraordinary storyteller he is. I know he jokes about not having many skills, but dang, I hope he knows how that alone is amazing.
He has a great book inside of him that one day, we'll all get to read.
it takes a buckwild amount of charisma and integrity to stand up to a group people who ae 10 or so years younger than you and say "I fucked some things up, but i still made it"
It's incredible but boy am I glad
10 year olds totally have no attention span... lol..\ kidding..
this whole thing just reaffirms what I think we all know, in that Griffin is so driven to unload his bottomless creative well on all of us and the only reason he isn't able to take over the world is because whoever rolled the dice upon his creation ended up giving him anxiety
AbnormalGlasses Whoever rolled that D6 on the anxiety roll got a critical hit, sadly. I love this good good boy, and I wish he was the supreme ruler of the world
well, just my two cents, im glad he’s not ruling the world. he created a wonderful life for himself and many wonderful worlds for all of us, and i think he’s probably happier in this timeline anyway.
@@rubyrider7902 [tears for fears voice] no-obody wants to rule the wooooorld
The two go hand in hand. He's anxious because his expectations for himself are so high. It's peculiar to assume that the talent was a god-given gift, but the anxiety was a random mistake.
"if you are overly critical of your work, you'll never make anything" you ever hear sumn that makes your soul change. like that sentence just hit

Same, like, I felt dread for him, cause I've never seen him alone on stage, ever, and I'm just thinking of his social anxiety and I went 'oh no', but then he started talking and I realised that, more than that, I'm just really, really proud.
For someone who is so socially anxious, he sure has no problem being a dick to people who are socially awkward in front of him instead of reassuring them. Looking at you, "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT, I'M GAY?!" guy.
@@BrentWoodroof Okay, I was there, and wanted to ask a question (but didn't because I felt like it would be wasting time), and I was pissed at these people who were telling their whole life story just to ask a question that was obviously not gonna get a solid answer.

The McElroy's voices are magically able to get me through work days. Doesn't matter which one, doesn't matter what they're saying.
This is so true. I don't even really care what the content is anymore, it's just comforting to hear them, as people, cause they're all just so kind and earnest in wanting to be their best and in bringing joy to the world. Like, I legitimately can think of no other content creator I feel so familiar to, even if I never ever will be able to actually meet them in person or even let them know I exist. They're just all such,,, good boys, through and through.
Fucking same. I would lose my shit if I didn't have the McElroys to listen to at work. Especially on the days I work overtime. They are such blessings, just really good boys all around.
my work schedule is all over the place and i end up having to work overnight shifts at least once or twice a week, and the McElroys are what i always listen to when there's nobody else there with me, it's really comforting to be able to hear them just be silly silly goofy boys

I swear to God I thought whenever Griffin said that he was in Forbes 30 under 30, I thought he was doing a goof but it’s true I am so floored.
oh my god imagine griffin as a youth minister
I recently discovered the McElroy brothers and it is bizarre to listen to Griffin speak here. I too am from Appalachia, have two older brothers, and I lost my mother to cancer when I was in my early 20's. I guess it's not that strange to have some demographic similarities with another white dude on the internet, but this feels sort of uncanny to me. Anyway, I obviously relate and I really appreciate Griffin's talk. Love these dudes.
Watching this and listening to all his achievements after watching amibo corner
As much as I love watching and of the McElroys speak in public, their audience interactions really betray how genuine they are. Griffin seems to seem so relaxed with the QnA. It's like he doesn't enjoy talking only about himself, but enjoys helping others through himself.
You just watched over 90 minutes of Griffin talking Feels like 5 though doesn't it?
Jesus, I thought you were kidding. It just flew by!
@@weirdaljedifan2 haha I was quoting a video Justin and Griffin did But yes it really did fly, this man has a way with words
"unintentionally, but that doesn't matter, a lot of hurtful shit" I am SO glad he said that. I am so so so glad he acknowledged the fact that it doesn't matter the intention behind whatever they said, but the fact of the matter is that it was hurtful/insulting/offensive/etc. a LOT of content creators today don't realize the impact of what they say outside of their own brain. some of these ppl are like "I said a racial slur but its okay because I didn't mean it to be offensive!" that isn't a valid argument.
My favorite thing is that someone went up and asked FMK for Taako, Merle and Magnus and Griffin straight up said no. I absolutely respect that. Where do you even go after that? Your life is basically over at that point.
The way that he can instantly read that a person asking a question is nervous, and self-deprecates to make them feel at ease... Umami.
"im 20 and pokemons the only thing i can think about" god that is a mood
“i’m a clown man. i’m a child boy.”
Yo, what Griffin said about just "being there" for a friend who's lost someone is REAL. If you have a friend who loses someone (I'm coming from the perspective of losing a parent but losing anyone close is devastating), spend time with that friend. Be there for them. They feel incredibly alone, and literally doing anything to spend time with them and support them goes so much farther than you could ever know. If your friend is grieving, it's scary to not know what to do, but if you're worrying about it, you're already doing a good job caring about your friend. Reaching out and supporting them, literally doing anything, is the kind of help that only you can provide and it means so much. Thank you for caring about and supporting your friends. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Hi! I was the person who asked this question, and I've spent the past several months feeling awful about asking him about something that is personal and painful, and I've been thinking about writing to him to apologize. I may still do that, but I'm glad that someone appreciated his advice too! Thank you.

Sweet baby brother Griffin the verbose intellectual
Really appreciate him talking about the importance of diversity in storytelling and abt how it’s impt despite some ppl thinking it isn’t bc I’ve seen some really negative commentary from fans abt mcelroys “pandering” to ppl and abt “this person is poc/lgbt for NO reason I don’t see how this moves the narrative forward”. That sorta thing can be really discouraging for ppl like me who share the same identities as some of the characters the mcelroys represent so I really appreciate them always standing by/not downplaying the importance of diversity. It makes me feel safe in a way that few other spaces/ people do.
hi! Honestly I used to think the same thing as those negative fans. It was genuinely frustrating to see characters being called lgbt while also not really integrating that aspect of their character into the main story. and honestly? I think this comment and some others / other people have changed my mind. that feeling of being safe and encouragement to people just by showing the audience that *these characters are just as relevant and important and don't need to constantly remind you of their orientation / gender* is such a wholesome and profound feeling that even I started to understand a lot more after listening to TAZ. so thanks for posting stuff like this, its really important.
@@whoogh the things that bothers people like me isn't that they exist in media as characters. The reason is that some or even many of these characters solely came into existence because they are marketing tools. I cant count the amount of unnecessary moments a character was pushed as gay and nothing much else was said. I've seen commercials that flaunt and products that exploit it. Gay characters aren't bad, but how they are used and the intentions behind why they exist are!
Cheers, mate. I feel the same. Including diverse characters without making their diversity The Point isn't pandering, it's humanizing and more realistic storytelling.
it's so annoying bc characters can be cis, straight, white, and it doesn't have to mean anything as they're seen as the "default". as soon as a character strays from that, they need a purpose. they cant just BE gay or trans or a person of color..
What the McElroys do right about diversity is that they have it without lampshading it. There are gay characters, trans characters, characters of different races, etc, and they're just there, doing what they do and being awesome without making a big deal out of it. If you want to normalize diversity, this is how you do it - without unnecessary fanfare.
