If our migrant population was made up of Germans, French, Dutch, etc. I'd have no problem with that because they're culturally and genetically similar to us. Their decedents would most likely think of themselves as British because they look like us and so would never question their identity. My distant ancestors could be from France and I would never know unless I got a DNA test.
