In this video, I replace the exhaust manifold...after many attempts to extract the old bolts. I also fix the hood and get the truck inspected and ready to replace the international 4700.

  • Growing up, stepdad thought that some tools were just too dangerous for us kids... no welder... or grinders.... Sure we knew what a wire wheel was, and a plumbers butane torch... but we couldn't try the weld a nut on solution... it was drill it out and retap every time. I am so glad to see you teaching your kids and letting them participate. I really REALLY wish someone had the patience to teach us welding earlier... I was 25 before I knew a grinder or a welder.

Congrats on your extreme level of patience. Second, I didn't think there was any hope for rebuilding that hood and you managed to pull that off as well. Nice work.

  • @1:17:00 - That used to be my service environment. I was Metso factory trained in Finland and worked on the portables like the LT-105 and that lineup. I drove an FL60 cab with a service body and crane. I traveled with a yellow lab named Althea. I would turn her loose in a rock quarry and tell her to "go find a stick" which would get a laugh out of the guys because there wasn't a tree in site. Old Althea ALWAYS came back with a piece of wood which she proceeded to lay around and chew to shreds. Pallet wood, branch, stump, something wooden.

  • Tip for fiberglass alignment: use hot glue and popsicle sticks for alignment. If you have plexiglass that works better, but it's not as cheap as the sticks. From the side you are not repairing apply the sticks with a little hot glue... Then repair the other side. Take off the hot glue and sticks and repair the other side.

    @arosenberger87@arosenberger87 Жыл бұрын
    • Need cheap plexiglass? Find a discarded flat screen TV and take it apart for the plexiglass and recycle the rest. Takes less than 20 minutes. Older flat panels have thicker plexiglass.

  • Great video Jesse! For areas where you need to put fiberglass with no backing, I usually put aluminum sticky tape on the back side - it sticks to the surrounding area and has some rigidity to keep its shape until the fiberglass solidifies.

I'm not criticizing I applaud your effort. Get your self a DA sander and a viking air file and a mini vike. I'm old and I learned a long time ago sometimes you just have to have the right tools. • I shouldn’t be watching you battle broken manifold studs i should be down in the barn getting the one last broken off manifold bolt out of the crv, its such a royal pain. It’s inspiring to see a master of patience tho. I’m also in the middle of reading that book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. In the section about Gumption he talks about how necessary it is to walk away once a hang up or set back has started to drain you of your gumption. Persig says the internal setbacks involve Value traps, Muscle traps, and truth traps. The external setbacks involve out of sequence reassembly, intermittent failure, and parts problems. So many a ha moments in there. Stuff you definitely dealt with before but never heard it put together like that. Really cool. Great work as usual

  • Cardboard makes good forms when covered with Saran Wrap and/or clear packing tape. Layer up your glass on visqueen so that you are applying three or four layers at a time wet to the work. Saves time. Resin and thickeners make a better putty and filler then a very thin layer of Bondo if you must to finish. You can bond to plastics with epoxy formulations and do the whole job in epoxy if premium strength is required.

It's because the bolt has expanded in the hole and lubrication has been burned off it needs to be cooled off and re lubricates.👈😎👍 Hint WD40 doesn't work. 😍👉Awesome job on the body work and fixin the old girl up.

As someone who always enjoys your vehicle/machine rebuilds this just seemed so unjesse.....so I was fast forwarding and lo and behold you indeed did make the requisite glass repairs! Certainly not difficult but time consuming, another nice outcome, (though I thought FOR SURE you would repaint the entire hood). THX!

  • Also on bolt extraction. Let it cool so the bolt will shrink. Then heat up the head flange and try removing. Great job but I think you have to wait for the bolt. The interface between the theads has already been shocked by the bolt getting hot first then transferring to the flange. You should fibreglass that bucket back on. Beats a 400 hood.
