Stock images of instruments, electronics, and planets display a tourist's understating of Pink Floyd. But what's arguably worse is the apparent lack of interest in making it work with THE SONG. There's a big sting that we all know at 1:19, and NOTHING changes! Then, at 1:43, a new shot, motivated by NOTHING. Since the invention of sync sound in movies, animators have have used their unique position to create visuals to music where action fell on specific notes, on specific beats. There's none of that here. This is just some animation which runs the length of the song.
Just correcting you. This isn't exactly stock images but a horrible horrible use of AI (which I guess learns from stock images). The "animator"'s (quotation marks important) use of AI has even less effort than using stock images in the video. But 100% agree with you, doesn't even match with the song. Wasted potential, as I was hoping for some abstract animation which matches the song, not an AI drum and guitars...... Like what do planets have anything to do with the Dark Side of the Moon? The title, "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" is a metaphor... not the soundtrack for NASA and their moon expeditions.

If you're gonna hold a contest, at least have some standard about the entries you're accepting. AI trash shouldn't be allowed to compete in a creatives' competition, much less win it.
If this "trash" is what AI is capable of, then why are we trying to stiffle it. This entire video provided an experience I've never had before. The visuals really stand out as unique. And perhaps the point that it's different is what draws me to it. This is truly an outside the box depiction. And I get the frustration that no one can compete when AI is involved, but shouldn't that be accepted as a challenge to other artists?
@@Effortless_Perfection"unique experience" and it's just a glorified winamp visualizer
@@Effortless_Perfection The fact of the matter is that AI generative models, at least a majority of the ones available to people, are trained on content that many MANY artists are not okay with having had their content included in the training model. It's not really fair to say "this should be accepted as a challenge to other artists" when generative models like this are capable of outputting images at levels that are impossible to compete with by an actual person. There's an inundation in general art spaces of AI nowadays that if not properly tagged (or not required to be tagged) is overtaking regular artists who are now being forced to compete with said models. I do agree that AI does have a particular look to it that can't be replicated by people, because the way that it 'thinks' (which it doesn't) is very different from how a regular person might have approached it, but this project was done to reward creatives for creating something new as an anniversary for Pink Floyd. There are artists and animators and all kinds of other people who poured hours and hours into making a new video for the sake of this competition. Even if this person is proven to have made this entire video with a model trained on their own art (which I've seen being mentioned around) it's still a matter of effort in that a model was used to generate the entire thing where other people meticulously made everything from scratch. I say all of this as a person in the general art space (as someone who's dabbled in fanart as a hobby for over a decade). There's a worrying trend in the industry towards generative models like this because of their high output capabilities compared to regular people, and instances like this where people who have worked years and years to hone their craft and achieve their level of creative output are being pushed to the side in favor of AI is further reinforcement of this worrying trend.

I understand the frustration, but artists had to know their chances of winning was slim. And pouring your heart out for a "win" isn't necessarily the goal anyway... is it?
I mean, this guy put hours into making this as well, allot goes into these videos, not to mention the rig you need to speed up the process is very pricy
business has no regard for sentimentality, or how much work an artist or group puts into a product. They're only concerned about the product itself and here it really shows. Then again it's so nauseating to watch that I fail to see how this was accepted in the first place.
@@Effortless_Perfection Their chances of winning were slim enough without many entries just like this one for every one of the songs that are a part of this celebration. It is just a computer being told "space rock" with the images stitched together in a way that's at least not harmful to the eyes and has believable movement. There's no care taken to touch up details or keep the scenes consistent, there's a fundamental change in the scenery every single frame that completely severs my suspension of disbelief. Artists poured their heart out not to "win," but to be recognized for their love and talent to express it of another artists music, if they were being truthful to themselves. And their recognition has been taken by someone commanding a program that has been trained by analyzing images from all over the internet to make a video - it's all uncredited stolen imagery. That is the main problem here. @corknakovastein Tell me, would this video not look better as a 3D render? Like, the guy used stable diffusion to make it, which requires about as "pricey" a rig that you'd need to use something like Blender. Why didn't he just actually take the time to hand-craft an animation for this song? Every model painstakingly moved to create the same scenes, but more consistent, would look infinitely better, it would be much more representative of the artist, and take about as long to create as any 2D animation at 30FPS. At best, I'm counting 8 individual frames per second on this video. The image generation for this project probably took two days, with a couple of weeks to edit; which is the problem, because the "generative" part of real art is the most personal, incorporates the most characteristics of the artist into the work, and takes the longest because the most thought is put into it. There was no thought put into this. This is just a video that plays at the same time as "Any Colour You Like." Feel free to disagree but this is not real art.

Ai can’t make art without stealing from actual artists, this shouldn’t qualify.

This looks garbage. Ban AI from contests. The guy who won with this did nothing, an app did, while hundreds of other artists who actually put effort in their work didn't had the chance. What a joke.
That's actually horribly inaccurate. They didn't do "nothing." People REALLY do not understand what AI is before they complain or whine about it. There's a lot of ignorance going on here. AI art is still directed and molded by the director of it's project and this was still meticulously crafted frame by frame with targeted descriptions for what each frame needed to have. To discount this would be to discredit CGI over traditional animation, or even in even better terms, it would be to deny many of the very machine delay effects which Pink Floyd not only used to create many songs, but that Richard Wright uses to craft this song in particular.
