Your modern piano has such an amazing sound
Not...
No!!! Old is good sound
Yes
@@DrNothing23 highly subjective🎹🎶
it sound like a small grand piano. i had a guess what it is. but the old piano is terrible, would never play that othside of a western salon
I still find it absolutely stunning how you can play without looking half the time
Muscle memory. It’s not a super advanced skill, more like a medium skill. Not trying to be rude.
But the other half...
It's not hard to play without looking at the keyboard. But looking AWAY while playing, that's difficult. Because it completely changes the way you play.
Try watching blind pianists play🎹🎶

I love the painting. He's always watching 😁
lol
The eyes seem to follow you.
jajaja
This does make me wonder how these composers wouldve changed their styles, if at all, if they had modern pianos.
kzhead.info/sun/q9t_fJRpsJtqhp8/bejne.html They definitely sounded different, but not necessarily like his.
I think they'd love the sound of our modern piano. Liszt changed his old one for a new one when he was very old already. This nostalgia for sounds of old pianos is an "our generation" thing. They were always looking for new and better sound ones.
The qualities of the medium influences the art. Stereo allowed a greater clarity of sound and more instruments in the mix, which changed studio productions. LPs had two sides and the order of tracks was optimized for that, CDs were optimized for being listened uninterrupted, modern music is happening on playlists, so there is no connection anymore between songs required. 70s synth never could sound like real instruments, so they were used for their own qualities right into the 80s when they started to be used to compensate for other instruments in a cheaper way. Tik Tok requires a minute of music without an intro and tracks meant to be promoted that way have pretty much become that. Pop music is not meant to be sung by opera singers and Freddie Mercury's Barcelona (which was specifically written for his and Montserrat Cabllé's voices) lead to an avalanche of mediocre operatic pop covers, which never should have existed.
@@user-ye2sm1gq7l That's not the question though. Old pianos sound different, achieve a different sound effect, and not necessarily a worse one. The question is if these compositions would still be composed in the same way if they were written with the modern piano in mind.
Yes, I'm sure Bach would have embraced Sustain & Sostenuto pedals - and absolutely loved a Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.
The rag sounds much more interesting on the old piano.
It's like it was made for that specific genre
It almost sounds like two different instruments in accompaniment.
Exactly, I prefer the modern piano for all pieces except those from Scott Joplin.
@@paulcutty8048Which is amazing as Scott Joplin is the modern composer compared to the other ones.
3:20 You don't say!
I like how I can judge how truly difficult something is to play by how much time you spend looking through me or at the keys.
The classical composers sound better on the modern piano, even though a good portion of them played on pianos of that age, if not older. But I make the exception for Scott Joplin, he always sounds exceptional on older pianos. Ragtime just sounds amazing on brassy old pianos! This was a fun video, thank you! 😃
The old one is kinda bright, I prefer the softer and fuller tone of the new piano a lot. Except at the end the ragtime example sounded much more authentic on the old one. :)
That's because 1800s piano is a honky-tonk, it was customised specifically for playing ragtime.
I don't know if it's just the condition of the piano or that is just how it is with older pianos🎹🎶
@@jarekwrzosek2048if you listen to Roberts Pianos videos on old pianos they don't sound quite like this🎹🎶
Indeed. The old one sounds much more like the sort of piano that you would find in a British pub and very good for playing boogie woogie etc.
@@MERCEDES-BENZS600GUARD_V12 It's neither. Honky-tonks are specially customized, with hammers covered with metal plates, instead the usual felt, hence the brighter, tinny sound.
Love your portrait.
Thankyou!
@@Lord_Vinheteiro Who painted it for you?
@@LoveClassicMusic0205Probably painted it while staring at the camera. 😂
it seems like the change of environment is affecting too... i kinda prefer the old one. Stunning difference
The old one sounds more like a pub piano. Yhe modern one has a much fuller rounded sound.
I remember going to a music museum several years ago in Spartanburg, South Carolina, they had a collection of very old and also new pianos. You could DEFINITELY tell the difference. It was quite amazing. BTW, Joplin sounds incredible on the older piano.
I was in the middle of putting words to my thoughts on the differences in tone, and then lost it noticing the portrait of you was staring at me as well.
Hahaha! Very observant. It's a bit unsettling isn't it?!
1800s just sounds like it hits better and has cleaner notes to me. Your skill level never ceases to amaze 🙏🏼😁 Thanks for all your content!
What I learned is that it's good to have the instrument(s) that you feel best represent the music your playing. Thank you for your videos! They are great entertainment!
Dang both had their charms. I like the new one on some melodies and the old one for other melodies.
Even tho the sound of the new piano is way more clear I like the sound of the old one better. It has a way deeper sound.😊
Yeah the old one sounds closer to the chemballo
I suspect the newer piano might sound more like the older one as the wood ages. As the cells of the wood collapse or lose their natural internal oils.
Warmer, like a tube amplifier.
They all have their own character and personality and the acoustics of the room play a role too! But what stands out for me is the supremely exceptional playing by your fingers maestro! 👍🙏😎❤
It's impossible not to love the 2 pianos!
The last piece tells it all. Old and new technology can make a great difference in how musical expression and appreciation are done. We're all made richer and more blessed to have both. Thanks!
I love the comparison videos! The idiosyncrasies of the 1800s piano and its tinny tone make it for me
Nice work.. Thanks 😊
yes, our friend, I did!...thanks for playing them for us
Old is Gold
Love the new painting❤❤
Such music sounds beautiful on both pianos.
Great comparison video. This reminds me of all the old cowboy movies I've seen. Most saloons had an old geezer playing in the background and the piano sounded like your old one. I wonder if the movie-makers used old pianos in the movies to add an authentic feeling? Probably not, since back when they made those movies, old pianos were pretty cheap; sometimes free. (Still waiting for you to play the bagpipes!)
You’re thinking of a tack piano.
Never heard of tack piano, so looked it up. You are absolutely right! Thanks for the pointer! @@nmccw3245
Thank you for doing this, God bless you
Both great tbh. Like two great black and green teas. Each has its benefits
Parabéns!! O Sr. é um "Gênio" da musica. Obrigado pelos ensinamentos!!
Impresionado.... maravillosas ejecuciones, Lord.
You really are a good player! Excellent!
You are a genius, you played excellent on any instrument. Thanks again.
You play beautifully
Thans for the amazing video.. 💙
1800's brings life to the music! Chords much beautiful
I like them both. Each is unique when heard side by side.
I like the older one; it seems to produce more harmonics. Of course, the different rooms have an effect on the sound, too.
The antique piano is giving me Western movie saloon vibes. Is this what it sounded like when it was new though?
I wondered the same. Also do different species of tree make for different sounds? Plus the best violins it turns out the wood marinated in ocean water by necessity due to the location of the city waiting for the wood to be needed. Forming salt crystals giving Stradivarius violins their amazing tone. So a guitar maker tried the same trick and got an upgrade.
Nope, it didn't sound like this when new. When the hammers wear down, they become harder and the sound becomes brighter.
Good job maestro and finally a good ragtime !
would be nice to hear this comparison again with identical microphone setup 👍
BOTH pianos sound amazing...even on the recording. Amazing job of selecting & placing microphones. Pretty sure that old piano has platinum strings; probably worth more than the building they're in. Certainly genuine ivory key caps.
I'm curious to hear a similar video using grand pianos, with as much matching as you can of how open they are, the rooms they're in, and where the microphone is.
I love that Mozart Sonata! I'm learning it
Wow! I really want one of these old pianos! Sounds really 👍 😎😎😎
Not trying to be edgy, but I prefer the sound of the 1800s piano
Same. Has a more "Classical" sound to it, considering it was what it was originally played on.
Nothing edgy about that, I prefer it too. It just sounds better
@@ChanceTMno, that’s not the type of instrument the prices were originally played on
Me too, its much better to hear, and also the sound is so much clear! 😊❤❤
Me too. It's how those pieces would have sounded, originally.
I love the painting
Love this guy
so amazing
Sounds Great, Love the painting where can i can buy one?
Os Pianos estão afinados! Aí, o som é um show🎹🎼🎵🎶🎶👏👏👏
Both are amazing! Wonder what thing or things can make such a huge difference?
Sehr gut.
I like the crisp, bright sound of the old piano, in fact, I love the fortepiano.
Otimo, perfeito
Both sound excellent. The old piano has an almost honky-tonk sound that really fir the Joplin piece nicely.
Each instrument has its own highlight.😍🤩
Love the Scott Joplin with the 1800's piano. Sounds authentic to the period.
But not authentic to Joplin himself.
Nice, las melodías bellas....
@Lord_Vinheteiro it would be nice to hear more covers from you🎉. That pure and full sound of your piano it’s better than most recordings on youtube. Lord Vinheteiro, if you hear me please do a full Eric Satie Gymnopedie cover on your wonderfull piano ❤.
There is a huge difference in the room sound as recorded by the mics. Modern is almost direct clean sound, while the classic sounds like mics were more distance from the piano. Not super fair comparison.
The vintage piano 100 percent. I especially like how you have fun with it. God bless. Tom in Idaho
Old one sounds almost like a Cimbal aka Cimbalom which I like.
melhor canal de piano
I mostly hear a difference in the recording. There is much more room sound in the 1800s one, which makes me think either the microphone setup was different or one room had more echo.
Joplin, on the 1800s piano, just fits like a glove. 👍
Maravilhoso!
Well I can definitely tell you which one scott Joplin sounds best on.😊
as someone who really cherishes sounds (except the ukelele, i have trauma associated with that), i really like the modern piano's sounds, but in the ragtime example, the tinny-ness and tone really fit the melody being played. it's amazing how one instrument can sound entirely different with a slightly different build!
I love the Scott Joplin book in the background...
Nice
I prefer the old one because my grandmother used to have a similar one and it's really nostalgic to me.
Me gusta mucho el plano
Love the painting of a familiar face 😅.
I always preferred bright!!
Nice wallpaper.
Excelente Vinheteiro!
Sounds more brighter the vintage than the modern.
I would like more info. My mothers piano is from about the 1920s or 30s and sounds modern.
It would be interesting to hear the old one after a good tuning. It sounded perfect for the pineapple rag though.
I can definitely hear the difference and I like both.
Reverences from Italy vinheteiro!! Apart from all, Joplin's rag retains its charm on the 19th century piano!
The 1800s piano almost has a harpsichord tone to it. Interesting. And very well played!
Gotta love that the old piano had built-in candle holders
Legend
There's an obvious different, but how do you describe it? It feels like the sound produce by modern piano seems a little muted? While the old piano there's some form of reverb?
I hear it as the modern piano has a more full, rounded tone while the older one is very thin or sharp (tonally, not musically)
I love the sound of vintage piano
Now we can be stared at double time!😂 Nice portrait though!
