imagine him in today’s nba, being able to shoot as many threes as he wanted. scary thought right there
He would be able to play both forward positions. A lethal pick and pop player who can be a point forward as well. Shit wouldn't be fair.
Would be the same players are too dynamic offensively nowadays
@@cleptomon He would be virtually just as effective today. Let's not play
@@justsayin669 for me he’s similar to luka doncic but luka is a better facilitator and larry is the better defender and hustle player than luka. But both are great fundamentally
@@carlfeliciano988 Yeah Luka is sort of like Bird with no defense. He has pretty much all of the other capabilities that is if he can continue to prove he can average 9+rpg. Their scoring styles are somewhat different though. Luka loves his long stepbacks and drives not utilizing the midrange much while Bird was more of a contested bucket getter from the midrange using his handles and fakes to get whatever room he can and when he chose to drive to the rim was also a very good finisher. Luka has some midrange game, but he mostly likes his stepback threes and drives for layups and floaters. Bird actually shot the 3 better than Luka has up to this point, Bird just took way less 3pt attempts mainly because of the era that he played in.
*Larry Bird 85-86 season, 7th season age 29:* *1st in MVP voting* *NBA MVP (3rd straight)* *Lead the Celtics to 67-15 record* *All NBA first team* *All-star* *NBA champ* *Finals MVP* *NBA 3pt champ* *An all-around great season. For the HOF player player*
29 seems to be the peak age for most nba players.
even with all that his per for this season is like 180th. not taking anything away from larry he was amazing just suprised his per wasn’t higher.
*180th per on the all time per for a season
@@devdagoat2574 That's why everyone should just ignore philosophical advanced stats. They are irrelevant
This is the same Celtics team that a 23 year old Michael Jordan played against as an 8th seed coming off a foot injury that kept out for the majority of the season and still managed to score 43.7 ppg on 50% shooting, but Lebronsexuals wanna say he’s 1-9 without Pippen and without context as well.

Agree
Or he would play in Europe, as some crazy guy said. 😳 But I definitely don't agree with the crazy guy. Larry Bird would totally dominate today's NBA. He was unstoppable back in the '80s and would be even more unstoppable today.

@@chyoli6220talking about Dennis Rodman😅 what he don't understand is that if bird was to be sent to Europe, where would he be than in today game according to his logic
I think Larry Bird was the first true 3-level scorer. He can post-up, finish at the break with either hand and shoot light-out beyond the arc. During the 80's, players would only shoot 3's if they are wide open. He was the first player I saw who shoots 3-pointers with a hand in their face.
Chamberlain, pistol pete, and david thompson would all be 3 level scorers if they had a 3 point line. The aba also had a few 3 point shooters but I dont really know their game so I couldn't say if they played post, however I do know 1 of them was putting up modern era amounts of 3 point shots.

Larry Legend was straight schooling dudes in the 80’s!!!!
it’s so crazy to me that the nba basically only brings his name up when there’s a tall white guy that can shoot well so they can make a basic comparison. i’ll never understand why the nba pretty much disregards almost everyone that played before 2000, literally the only league who does this. how you win 3 straight mvp in boston of all places and barely get talked about?
Because people love to hate on the Celtics
As a C's fan , it broke my Heart everything single time that an Amazing player from the C's is way too much underappreciated

@@seandupree8871 Its pure laziness. Jordanism is a disease in modern sports media and I blame the rise in popularuty of "debate" shows. Jordan has such a clean and easy argument for GOAT that all these talking heads don't actually have to put in the effort to compare players across eras.
What needs to be recognized is Larrys amazing court awareness, he seemed to know where everyone was at all times, his insane passing skills illustrate that big time.
The level of comfort with which he can shoot from anywhere on the court - ANYWHERE & ANY TYPE OF SHOT - is incredible and unmatched.

Simply put, prime Bird isn’t surpassed by anyone. Arguably, a few players have a claim to equaling his peak. The only reason he’s not the undisputed GOAT is because of longevity
LARRY BIRD WAS THE BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY.
Bird played like he was everyones big brother. Didn't look like he was really even trying and he still dominated.
2:08 - His passing was extraordinary. When the Celtics drafted Len Bias I heard their plan was to have Bias start at forward and move Bird to guard. If Bird had played guard I really believe he could have lead the league in assists.
3:35
From what I see, Larry Bird was ahead of his time. He was shooting the 3 contested in the 80's, and that seemed virtually a non-factor still in the *90's.* I understand now why he is one of the greatest. He is definitely one of the top 10 greatest basketball players of all-time.
Magician. Controlled the flow of every game he played for years.
This is one of the best Bird highlight reels. Captures what was so amazing about Bird, in spite of being limited to one season. Much praise.
Larry just has that it factor. If im an opposing team larry bird is one of the last guys i want to have the ball.
Greatest Small Forward to EVER lace em up. This ain’t for debate. “The one thing that always bothered me when I played in the NBA was I really got irritated when they put a white guy on me," Bird said. "I still don't understand why. A white guy would come out (and) I would always ask him: 'What, do you have a problem with your coach? Did your coach do this to you?' And he'd go, 'No,' and I'd say, 'Come on, you got a white guy coming out here to guard me; you got no chance.' ... For some reason, that always bothered me when I was playing against a white guy. "As far as playing, I didn't care who guarded me -- red, yellow, black," Bird added. "I just didn't want a white guy guarding me. Because it's disrespect to my game." LARRY LEGEND!!!💯💯💯😂

The tormentor of Michael Jordan. Bird gave Jordan the highest complements while at the same time whooped his ass non-stop. Pretty badass! Jordan never had a winning playoff game against Bird--not a single one. Jordan has not learned from Wilt Chamberlain that scoring 100 points every game is not better than empowering your team mates----He lacks play making ability that's why when Jordan doesn't have a super team he can't move his team past below .500. It's only when Jordan finally assembled the strongest team in his era that he started winning---They were the Golden State Warriors with Durant back in the day.
No Jordan learned how to play with a team and started to understand higher aspects of team play once the team got revamped and Phill Jackson came in. Jordan always knew how to play with a team but he sacrificed his stats to win and play in the triangle offense which as you can see gave him 6 rings.
Larry was the hardest working player on the floor. That is why he is the GOAT.

Amazing Larry Bird never missed a single shot from 1985-1986 🏀💰
What make Bird so great was that he made a lot of his passes/assists to guys playing off the ball? Bird mostly got the ball in the post or coming off a ball screen & that’s where he generated most of his assists, also how he scored too. The only time he dribbled was in transition. Never brought the ball up like a PG, no ISO dribbling behind the back under the leg crossover dribbling, basic 1 dribble drive to the back met or back down his guy in the post.
Larry Bird is simply the BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER EVER!!! He did more to make his teammates better than anyone. I will take Larry Bird in his prime(83,84,85,86,87) over anyone even Michael. Larry bird really was way ahead of his time during that period, shooting teams out with the three, coming off curles and can attack the rim while hitting contested shots like it's nothing, can pass and make plays, his competitive attitude, he would have made a jauger naught in today's nba, he just would've had to adjust to the pace of the game today which with the better conditioning skills and training that we have now he would've adjusted fine.

One of my favorite things is watching Larry get Three defenders to elevate. Only to hit an easy shot as they all fall off the basket
Larry, we need you to - shoot mid range - shoot from 3 - drive - pass - steal - rebound - assit - do all of the above over and over and over again and again, in regular season and deep into the playoffs for an entire decade Bird’s response: “sure thing. Just please get out of the way”
