QUEST | Dark Ambient Exploration: 19 | A Dark Sci-Fi Trip | ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe
Hello and welcome :-) This is my 19th Dark Ambient Exploration music performance; an ongoing series that I started at the end of September 2023.
This piece of music started with building a dark and sinister soundscape that sounds like it belongs in a hidden underground place. That's the vibe that I get anyway. I layered samples from the Space Attack metal spinner game that I featured in my recent video The Veil Is Falling, but manipulated differently this time around.
I used some old iPhone voice memo recordings from about 6 years ago amongst some other recent recordings.
These mixed well together to create a very dark and slightly disturbing scene in the mind when played without the Hydrasynth lead.
The soundscape needed a live synth performance to give it something extra... and after playing this 1st take live on the Hydrasynth, I think it gave the music a different dimension.
It contrasts the dark with a sci-fi ambience and sense of adventure, and I feel it lifts the performance a little lighter but doesn't take away the darker mood.
As such this piece probably rests on the fence between dark ambient and film score with a definite and genuinely unintentional, nod toward the vibes of Bladerunner. But that's definitely not a complaint in my mind :-)

I’m very glad they did the trick… originally I didn’t have the Hydra with this track and those sounds on their own, isolated were really borderline triggering… I was saying to myself… what are you doing? Haha so I kept doing it 😂 and think the sci-fi hydra vibes balanced it nicely. Next time I’ll keep it deep down in the cellar! Hey up Brad 😉❤️ how’s it going? Thank you very much mate. I have to be open and transparent though… this sound is a factory preset which I tweaked here and there, especially with adding drive on the aftertouch. I’d love to claim I made this one but I want to be honest… (I make most of the sounds in my videos myself though 😉) Maybe I should state as text on screen when it’s a factory preset…?
This is highly disturbing with what you've done with your vocal recordings Ricardo... and I wouldn't have it any other way! I must say the digital overdrive and distortion sound great and is perfect for this futuristic piece. Loving where the harmonies take you, they're a beautiful contrast to the disturbing sounds and worked really well, you're smashing it bro keep it up :D
🤣💪 Oh that’s perfect… I’m so glad it’s disturbing 🤣… oh Kev you should have heard it before I added the synth over the top… it was very unsettling and I was questioning “what are you doing Rick?!” Haha 😂 so I kept going… but to be fair the synth does level out the tone to something a little more balanced… next time I’ll not add any balance and keep it purely disturbing! 👌 Yeah the hydra’s digital distortions are great… thank you very much bro! I’m getting a right buzz from doing this 🤩
