I flew a RC EDF fighter jet using FPV (first person view) with head tracker as if placing myself in the cockpit at dusk and climbed to altitude to view a beautiful sunset for second time. Cruised around a bit then dived to do some aerobatic maneuvers including loops and barrel rolls and landed gracefully at beautiful Orange County Modeler Association Field.
The RC plane is a Freewing Mig-29 twin 80mm EDF jet converted to head-tracking FPV fighter jet by installing the best FPV pan & tilt gimbal - Motionsic BAG (BadAss Gimbal) and using a Trinity external head tracker module with DJI FPV Goggles/ Air Unit Camera.
I setup head-tracking FPV following KISS principle😘. No FC, just install pan & tilt with DJI FPV and connect to corresponding receiver channel setup with head-tracking on TX and go!

Beautiful flight.
Nice ;) almost like driving a real Mig jet fighter
Thanks! I hope so🙂
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TY for showcasing your flying venue at a higher viewpoint......beautiful surrounding landscape ....very enjoyable flight...EXCELLENT !!!!
Thanks for the encouragement Lee!
I just found this video and subscribed. Nice flight with the Mig-29. I have one too and it flies like a big Cadillac, so smooth... I have not done FPV with it yet though.
It’s a great plane! Enjoy.
You guys should film coming in low of the east side of hills/ mountains Great video!
There’s a field boundary that prevents us from going into those hills. Pretty tight boundary around this field and strict adherence. Will join other clubs to venture further. Stay tuned…
very nice.. I did not know you fly fpv and play a piano at the same time. Was Alex on percussion?
Thanks Tom. But neither Alex and I created the music. Just something I picked from KZhead music library. Must be pretty bad if you thought the music was by amateurs😂. Aerial shot of Mig for Thumbnail was from Alex’s Avanti.
Is this real? I can't believe it😃🙂
So so cool!
Thanks!
Nice flight Robert! New channel?
Thanks Jandro! I want to keep spur of the moment, minimum edit/informal footage here. Didn’t want to affect the stats on the main channel.
@@fpvdogfight I see, you are going 'my route' of two channels, hope it works out! ;)
You know I just had a crazy thought. This tech could have great military applications. Imagine this on a drone with some hellfires, sidewinders and sparrows. It could even dog fight with no G limitations. Also would make a great flight sim for training piolets. You could use a flat area and use augmented reality to super empose any target scenerio.
That’s what QF-16 does. Don’t know if they have head-tracking camera. There’s also a separate company doing augmented reality targets for real pilots/ plane to fight against. Multi-million$ projects already with military. Mine is for hobbyists, just for fun and thrills🙂
Im pretty surprised how is she stable in turns and is able to keep horizon and is very predictable. To your honest, I love how you working with elevator to feel how many energy she still have on final. It is very good sign how the pilot is good. Can you imagine if the slats would be movable in any change of AOA? Great
Thanks my friend! She is quite stable in high alpha and would handle >20° for flare no problem - it’s the tail strike I am worried about and subsequent nose drop. The slats while essential for full scale given the supersonic airfoil design, would not be necessary for this foamy model since the airfoil is already substantially adapted for low speed performance; leading edge is quit thick and round😉 . I think that’s why Freewing got rid of the slats on their 90mm Goshawk, the added weight decreasing performance is not worth the slight decrease in landing speed.
Maybe "automatic slats" would work, powered by aerodynamics, not by servos.
👏👏👏
Is this stored process footage or actual headset footage?
Goggles footage nowadays actually look better then this in Goggles 2
Don't forget a RC plan or helicopter have a service ceiling of 500 ft. We don't need anymore Government in the sport.
Have cleared with club leadership that we have clearance up to 4000 ft MSL or 2600 ft AGL for this field.
Are you using a gyro to keep it so stable?
Yes! Hobby Eagle A3 Super 3Gyro
@@fpvdogfight cool thank you!
One more question. What’s the difference between a gyro like that and using a flight controller on a plane? What is best?
@@excellenceinanimation960 flight controller has capability of Gyro stabilization and also tie into GPS for waypoint or return to home function. Also OSD (on screen display) to show flight information like speed, heading, altitude, etc…
@@fpvdogfight oh great Thankyou! So a gyro is just a simpler flight controller without the computer.
Do you have a Su-35?
No I do not.
Please stop jumping around.
