Agree with Braylon and Maz. The Lions were 30 minutes away from a Super Bowl with Goff. Make the extension front-loaded with most of the money dealt by year two, trade Goff for picks and see what Hooker can do in year four, if he hasn’t already somehow by that time.
Why is there such a rush to sign Goff? He has 1 year left. Let him play it out and see what Hendon has. It’s not like they can’t franchise tag Goff if need be after the year. If Hendon is him, tag Goff and trade him. If Hendon isn’t him, sign Goff. Utilize that franchise tag if necessary…. Especially since it’s at 38 mil right now (and prob only a few mil more after the year) which is far less then Goff is probably asking for.

Extension won't happen. Unless Brad gets a deal with an easy way out. Goff is average. The only reason some people love him is because we won 2 playoffs games and our QBs have sucked forever. We should win 2 playoff games every year with this TEAM.

If hendon is the guy “you think he will be” then we are just going to have to pay him $65mil a year in 3 years. Goff is much more contract friendly. Aiden and bb will be getting big contracts in the year that hendon would be due and you’re in this situation all over again

Both parties have some leverage. Holmes doesnt want to risk things falling apart without goff. Goff doesnt want to risk his career as a starter by going somewhere else
It's going to be 50+ a year.The only questions are #1-length of the extention and #2-guaranteed money.
He's done more for Detroit, the city, fans and organization then Stafford or Megatron ever did.(not shooting either down) If its not 55+ for a short term deal then it has to be a 4-5 year deal at 50+ with the best money for guaranteed. I love what Goff has done but if certain players get injured he can't carry the team like some QBs can so that needs to be taken into consideration.
How do you figure? He took the Rams to the Super Bowl the year Cooper Kupp went out mid-season with injury. Imagine taking Kupp away from Stafford the year the Rams won…

Kupp’s 2018 average was 14.2 yards per catch before he got hurt, the highest of his career. He’s been good for a long time and that season he was having a special year. Either way, my point is Goff took that team to the Super Bowl. So to say he can’t do it if players get hurt is just factually incorrect.
He is about as mobile as Scott Mitchell was.

It would be different had hendon hadn’t needed to spend a year rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL behind his own line of scrimmage playing hero ball . It doesn’t help that Jared accomplished what he accomplished . And it doesn’t help that Quarterback is one of the Hardest positions to play .simply because for that position it’s more of a mental game than a physical game . Yes you need to be able to make all throws but if you suck at reading defenses then you can’t make it at that position and NFL defenses are a lot harder to read than college defenses. Besides they’re a lot of really good really talented college Quarterbacks who never make it . And in Goffs favor there is 8 years of evidence of what he can and can’t do at the pro level . Where as Hendon hasn’t even played a snap of preseason which doesn’t really matter that much anyway.
Name these QBs you mentioned that beat Nick Sabans Crimson Tide with Terrion and Brian Branch etc. Because Hendon did.

The eye test is all that matters with Goff. If everything is perfect around him he will convince you he’s good. He is not. Have things not go the teams way and then see how good he is. Like Chicago(almost 5 or 6 INTs in a game)or Baltimore last year. You cannot defend those performances.

@@larrybrown2432 I have very high hopes for Hendon as well, he was a steal last year and definitely has the potential to be a star in the NFL but Goff right now is without a doubt the best QB and has shown the ability to win games and lead this team all the way. Give Hendon the time to learn and develop behind Goff for atleast 2 more years and we will see.

The most realistic contract is 4 years with only two years of guaranteed money. And around 2026 and 2027 they might draft a Quarterback in the first round to compete with Hendon hooker to replace Goff . If Hendon is still even on the Lions roster by that point . Hendon could always request a trade and Brad gets draft capital in compensation particularly the Panthers if Bryce young Dosent ball out in 2024 . Actually that might happen before the trade deadline If Goff keeps lighting it up next season

Goff didn't win 2 playoff games in my eyes, he actually got outplayed by Stafford & Mayfield. The defense made the play to seal the games & Purdy outplayed him in the 2nd half of the NFC championship game. In my eyes, that don't earn you an extension, plus his .500 3 year record, regardless of stats cause stats are something that can be looked wrongly based throughout the season cause he can have good games & have decent days where he gets outplayed by his opponent, so we really can't go off stats

Goff is elite in short passing with elite oline and offensive support. But lack of arm strength and mobility is real. He is an average QB with an average oline. Im guessing Brad is standing at 42m. And they are watching Hooker very closely this preseason. Wouldn't be shocked if they dont sign him if Goff wants more. Hooker is cheap option.
