I'm not talking about Jaywood when I say this, but I wish other KZheadrs would cover Xbox news with more factual evidence & critical thinking, rather than immediately leaping to the most dramatic thing possible for views. Ever since the studio closures were announced, I said this does not seem like a Phil move at all. Instead, it appeared to me that the higher-ups within Microsoft (especially Satya Nadella) are now wanting to get directly involved due to how large Xbox is within Microsoft. It's almost double the size of Windows in terms of revenue, and now we're getting frequent odd rumors that seem to be made with only shareholders in mind. Throughout all of this, who has been the most silent & absent from interviews? Phil Spencer. You know, the guy who's an actual gamer & generally pretty consumer-focused dude. Why is Sarah Bond the one out here dispelling rumors & confirming Activision games will all be Day 1 on Game Pass? Because Phil is being pushed into the background & becoming just a figurehead like Reggie was for Nintendo.
Xbox tubers tell xbots what they want to here in order to make money. Not what is good for them, so they can make informed decisions. Xbox gamers who are not xbots are let down.

It was reported by Bloomberg zenimax was gonna collapse because they had too many studios and the studios themselves were still trying to grow, so Xbox trimmed the fat. It’s really that simple.

How can Xbox overtake Windows revenue with that multi billion dollar Activision debt hanging around their neck. You can't just erase that from the spreadsheet and pretend to be in profit. It was not a charity donation from MS. It was a loan.

I will say as an xbox fan, I feel like the xbox community brought this on ourselves somewhat. If we hadn't of cheered on xbox's rampant consolidation, there mightve been a chance that Microsofts bean counters wouldn't had stepped in. Hindsight is 20/20 and looking back, looks like we may have been inadvertantly cheering on the death of xbox.

Foresight is pretty 20/20, too. People just tend to ignore what they don't want to see until the consequences of their decisions forces them to see what they ignored. I said from jump that Activision, Blizzard, and King could cost Xbox control of Xbox. And that this money would be better spent getting some Japanese Developer's instead. Granted. I did change my tune when the FTC tried to shut down the purchase. Because I am both anti-government AND I didn't see a valid reason for them to step in, I flipped sides real quick because fuck the FTC. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 BUT!! Before that part happened, I was neutral on the ABK deal since most of their "biggest games" were games I am not interested in. And was always for them getting some Japanese studios instead. And was weary of the level of control Phil and friends would have once Microsoft suits started paying close attention to them. And well... here we are...
@BrotherKnowledge. I'm with there when it comes to the feds. I was just in support of the merger for mainly 2 reasons, one being that it would free blizzard from the reign of bobby kotick and this was going to be the only path to getting abk games on streaming libraries. I didn't foresee it coming at the cost of xbox losing any semblance of identity it had.

I honestly have a hard time blaming Phil for this, it's a multibillion-dollar business and he doesn't have the final say in everything. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard of his resignation soon. this gotta be eating him up. not to mention we don't know their long-term plans or numbers, for all we know they're just trying to make their business more efficient. but buying recognized studios and closing them before letting them bear fruit is just dumb. there had to be better ways! you're losing the talent and studio that you paid so much money for, what was the point then?!
If Microsoft is now calling the shots for Xbox then I'm concerned. Xbox is an entertainment division, not a productivity division. What Microsoft should be doing is work with Xbox to focus on the productivity aspect. So build great tools that Xbox can use plus can license to other companies to use. Build a game engine to rival Unreal Engine. They should see Xbox has a customer.
I hope this doesn't mean Microsoft will close Ninja Theory before end of the year while congratulating them on meeting projections like they did with Tango

Did Microsoft really think that the ABK acquisition was gonna turn a profit within a few months? It could take over a decade before they get a return on the investment in ABK. This is ridiculous. "Did Xbox lie to us", but we blame top brass at Microsoft for gaming decisions. Any other time we say IGN is a Xbox tax machine, and now McCaffery is to believe his words as golden. Take two acquired Gearbox for $460 and immediately laid off people and made changes to save $165 million. And cancelled several projects in the process. MS spent $70 billion and you expect things to stay the same? Every time a company acquires assets changes are made, it’s they way business is done. No one talks about how Zenimax, according to Grubb, without MS would have close studios after WANTING to be acquired. Video games are entertainment and a break from every day life. Now we’re interjecting life into video games with all this fake outrage about jobs and people lying to us.Tango was apart of the acquisition, and the top studio head left before making one game. He said he was retiring and this was a decision made long before the MS acquisition. He got paid, left to retire, then opened a NEW studio. If anyone should be mad is Xbox and MS. Imagine being MS and you finally get a Japanese studio, and the studio head leaves and lies and opens a new studio. MS isn’t without fault, but them doing business and cutting fat isn’t something we need to complain about because they all do it.
Its sad seeing the state of Xbox. Microsoft definitely taking a bigger control of Xbox than ever before. I don't know what the future holds but i don't want Xbox to completely vanish from the market. Sony desperately needs competition.

I’m surprised to see so many people spreading rumors and making assumptions, while completely ignoring the facts that are right in front of them. The gaming industry, much like the global economy, is in serious trouble. This isn’t an issue of Xbox versus Microsoft’s administration. The success of the gaming industry has always been unsustainable. It required significant investments to develop new games and technology, and the pandemic (and post-pandemic) situation has caused this bubble to burst. The artificial growth, driven by people stuck at home and in desperate need of entertainment, is long gone. The layoffs across 2023 were just the beginning, and the situation has worsened in 2024. Microsoft is a large corporation, and like other big companies, it spends money on acquiring assets right before scenarios like this to avoid financial loss. This is an investment, not a lie to us or an attempt by Microsoft to take control. It’s a reality check, and they need to optimize and downsize to stay healthy in the coming years. Have you seen Sony’s stocks lately? They’re dropping fast. The gaming industry operates on very thin profit margins and everyone is trying to adjust to remain profitable. This is probably why Xbox mentioned their intention to double down on big franchises, as a way to reduce risks.
Love this channel, as you always seek to tell the truth. I never believed it was Phil and his team making these decisions. It was obviously the heads at microsoft going over their heads and taking it out of their hands. I love xbox and the games, just hope these decisions they are making don't ruin the brand forever.

Microsoft didn’t say go close tango, they said to cut costs. Xbox asked Bethesda who can be cut. Tango had big costly ideas for HiFi Rush 2 but they didn’t have anything in development so they’re gone. Austin didn’t have anything but a free update for a game that has become a joke about the quality of Xbox exclusives.

Xbox has been going down ever since the XB1 and Phil Spencer has not helped in the slightest. In fact he has made things worse. He told everyone that exclusives did not sell consoles and that console gens were stupid. Then he created Game Pass and told everyone not to buy games. Xbox now has a multi billion dollar debt due to the Bethesda and Activision acquisitions. Thanks Phil. Game Pass has flatlined. Nobody is buying Xbox consoles or Xbox games. You can't make new games if you are not selling games. So we now have studios closing and back catalogue games being ported to gamers on other platforms who do buy games. It looks like a closing down sale to me.

Been wanting to play marathon for a while so im down for a free version of the game on steam now. I just wish the reboot kept more of what made the original unique. I feel the new one should be a different title at least but it doesnt make me think of what marathon is at all.

I'm not selling my hard disc collection anymore. I was going to at one point, but this is ridiculous. At one point we won't own our games. I believe that will happen in our lifetime. Just to be able to continue monetizing. Actually this is another reason preservation of games and emulation is a must in today's day in age. If we aren't promised that what we buy is ours, then the contract is broken and we get to put our hand in the pot too.

People say Phil saved Xbox but the 360 era was great with great games and exclusives and Xbox One started bad with the drm but had some good exclusives to start off and once the new leadership took over Xbox went down hill
Even without the suits and corpo, they lack vision and leadership. This was a bed of their own making. Phil before his promotion has taken Xbox further down to sega path. Gamepass by far is the worse of gaming when you think about it in the long run. It ruins the mindset of buying, and should be shut down. If gamepass did not exist, compition would reign and force devs to bulk down to make the game actually good.
Give it a couple more news cycles and there will a new hype or boondoggle that will make the rounds. People have short memories, Xbox isn't going anywhere.

Game Pass makes developers lazy. We saw what happened with Starfield, one of the worst Bethesda games ever because they could just add it to the Game Pass shovelware pile since they don't have to make a quality game deserving of a full price tag. MS tactic is to become a monopoly, with their trillions of dollars boosted by AI investments they will buy and close any developer they want lmao
Must be why Starfield was the most successful game last year with Sony devs calling it the best game ever made. Can always play a Sony FPS or RPG instead? Oh right, zero all gen.

The Microsoft Activision merger was advertised to be something good for consumers, and that for a Xbox player, It could only mean Good news. If buying Activision is part of the reason why Microsoft decided to close down a bunch of studios, either to divert more attention and manpower to ActBliz and/or to cut costs (which is equally funny and incompetent of a multi-trillionaire company) including the one who made arguably their greatest game yet in High-fi Rush, then maybe the acquisition wasn't a good thing after all.
Hi-Fi Rush is their greatest game yet? Not by a long shot. Minecraft, Forza, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Age of Empires, Halo, Gears, Psychonauts, Project Gotham Racing, Fable, Perfect Dark....I could go on and on. I'm sure other people could think of others I've missed out but you get the point.

I think it’s a matter of time before Phil Spencer resigns. He’s been reduced to a corporate puppet, while MS proper dips their fingers in the gaming division and stirs the pot, destroying any good will that had recently caught momentum. I’m a PC gamer, so it’s not a huge impact on me personally, BUT it definitely paints a negative picture of MS Gaming and their future. They do have games that I’m planning to buy on Steam, but at this stage it’s entirely possible they butcher those products..
