  • Hello everyone, I'm french and I'll would like to add an information (4:11): To say "Goodbye" in a friendly way we use "à plus" more than "Tchao". We write it more like "a+". (This mean "Goodbye" and "see you soon" in same time). We also use "à la prochaine" with friends, it mean exactly the same thing as "a plus", in english is probably more like "See you" But if you want to say "see you later" (in the same day) you can say "à tout à l'heure" for everyone, and "à tout" with friends. Good luck in your French's lessons ! Don't give up, it was hard for us too ! (I apologies for my approximate english).

For example, I went on vacation and met some french people and spent the majority of my time with them. I ended up picking up their accents when I spoke and even mannerisms after a few days without even noticing until my one friend mentioned it. I suppose if you spent some time with French speakers or in a french country you can pick up the accent quite easily.

  • Be careful guys! "salut" can't be used like "hi" in English. In English, you can say Hi! to a waiter or someone like that. In french, don't say salut! to someone who is attending you or helping you. If you don't know someone, don't use salut! either. It's way too informal and you will sound quite rude, and too friendly!

  • My French friend said "de rien" is casual - sometimes too casual (considering French language and society is quite (beautifully) formal and traditional compared to anglophone places in many ways). Considering 'rien' means 'nothing', it's like 'it's nothing, don't worry about it, no problem, any time' etc. 'Je vous en prie' or 'je t'en prie' is more specifically 'You are welcome'.

  • I subscribe here and on a podcast app. Why is because (thankfully Spotify calculated this today.) I was live streaming tunes and picked one french song.. 😅 aaaaaaand after: 6,382 different artists And.. 😧🤯 326 different genres 72,759 minutes listening to music.. 2nd favourite genre being french pop (after my first french song easily had 400 tracks saved within 72 hours.) I somehow managed more than 96% of others in America. As you see I really had no choice on whether or not to learn or not. French music fused with my mind and soul. I couldn't stop, i explored everything from even pre 1900s although the most explored years that I also believe is essential to really uncover the sheer groundbreaking value is 2950s-2010. And narrower id say if nothing 60s-80s. Easy to notice how much french music had a big part in what music is today.

  • I have very basic French from the Canadian School system, but conjugating verbs was always the building block that stumped students. I want to build up my French vocabulary ( kicking myself for not learning more when I was younger) because my Hubbie's nieces and nephews are Montrealers and are fluently bilingual, but his nephew's wife's first language is French, so I want to be able to have a basic conversation with her, en Francais. She works hard at her English and I'd like to meet her half way with my conversational French.
