The Evolution Of The Dodge Challenger (1970 - challenger demon 2018)
In this video we covered all the generations of dodge challenger from 1970 to 2018, but we didn't cover all models due to time constraints, So we decided to focus more on the old models in these few minutes.

I cry every time look at the price back then
@gheddi Actually, three grand would be fifteen grand now. Now, most base models are above that price...
MrFireFast actually 3000 would be the same as 19,800..
@@1ZosoLZ Still, the point is that car companies are overcharging on cars. 19,800 for a performance trim is insane.
I cry when I see the 78 challenger
I could buy 4 of them and I'm 12 😂
1:08 ... one of the best sounds I have EVER heard...
Fucking relatable 👌
I agree. I’d like to own one just for the sound
For all of those wondering what happened in 1978, the answer is simple. Mitsubishi.
Oil ?!
Yeah they had to make it smaller and more fuel efficient due to the fucking fuel crisis
No dont worry, back in 1970-1980 Mitsubishi rocked the Rally and Japanese car world, then at early 2000’s thats when Mitsubishi turned to shit.
Mitsubishi made the Japanese Zero planes.
Wrong, Corporate Average Fuel Economy law

What the hell happened 1978?

Radiant Hour real shit?
It was just an imported Mitsubishi they slapped the challanger name on
That One Guy That Snipes they tried to become a Japanese car designer
The japanese can't design a good car. They can only make a small car
Jesus. Back when cars cost less then they weighed.
DOUBLEAGENTcity Actually a car that cost $3780 in 1971 still cost $23,437 in today’s dollar value.
thats still cheaper than any base v8 challenger today, probably cause all the electronics and safety equipment
3083 vs 84995
You have to remember you could only finance at 19% interest for 1 - 3 years maximum... 3 years was for wealthy people with perfect credit..19% interest was the normal back then,so that $23,000 - $30,000 car wasnt so cheap after all..Payments really took a chunk out of your check..Remember $1.25 per hour was the minimum wage !!! My Dad bought new cars from 1965 it cost him $26,000 for a Mercury Park Lane, not the top line either, was a decent trim line though..In 1967 Mom bought a Cougar GT 390 again $25,000 in todays money roughly ..In 1969 he bought a Charger RT in today's money it was $30,600..And he made good money being a business owner so he paid them off quick 1.5 years for the 67 and 69 and 2 years for the 1965..But no 4,5,6,7,8,9 year car loans at 0-5 % interest..You had 1 to 3 years to pay it off at 19 % !!! That was the rate for mortgages too 18 % - 21 % Prices were cheaper but the high lending rate screwed you over..Was good only if you had money in th bank as the interest on earnings were higher, but most didnt like today and you worked long hard hours too...Gas wasnt cheap either ,to the calculations gas is cheaper today than in the so called good old days !! People dont know this !
Ikr
I only thought the demon had 740 Hp but it was 840 And that’s insane!
The demon can do a 9.65 seconds quarter mile And other hilarious jokes you can tell yourself
Mitoșki 01 The fastest consumer time the Demon can do is 9.7, its close but not a 9.65.
The red key makes it have 1,000 hp
CT Farms Iam a Demon fan but I doubt thats true.
On pump gas it makes 800, on e85 it makes 840

Challenger HELLCAT- OK! 5:21 DEMON arrives- GROWLS!!! WHINES!! Ohh! I am having EARGASM!🤩
1978 comes around Me: I'm just gonna pretend I didn't see that
I owned the 1982 Mitsu Challenger and loved it. It had a 2.6L Hemi engine with a manual trans, good gas and room in the back seat that the newer Challengers do not have (great for USA to Canada hockey trips with people). Trunk was surprisingly nice too as my hockey gear fit inside nicely. It had some cool features for its time as well. I even liked the radio better than my buddy's Blaupuke which could not get the college radio stations that I listened to...and still do.
This is funny. I don't believe anyone actually calls the Mitsubishi 2.6L a "Hemi". I realize that technically, yes- it has a hemispherical cylinder head. But calling it a "Hemi" is suggesting that it is an evolution of a specific line of engines that are in a far different league. And I just gotta say, the last thing on my mind when buying a Challenger was how much room was in the back seat. Nobody is ever gonna sit back there. I have an SUV for more than two passengers. I'm sure the rebadged Galant was a nice, practical A to B car for it's day. But you don't put a legendary name on a car like that and think it will sit well with performance enthusiasts. It just doesn't belong in the lineage of the car. The Gen 3 model however, that's a proper Mopar muscle car through and through.
@@mcdingus5081 My wife and two sons sat back there and my daughter sat up front. There is more room in the back than my friend's 1986 Camaro. We never could go to sporting events in his car nor that 1996 Mustang GT my other buddy regretted owning because quite a few times I had to drive him home from work because the snow grounded that car. Sorry using "Hemi" bothered you although it was not meant to be taken seriously. I will give you my favorite car so you have someting to jab at...the 1980 Plymouth Champ 8-speed (2x4) 1.6L that would take three of us hockey players from the USA to Canada and back. Room for hockey sticks, gear and my teammates and was better in bad weather. We had so much fun in that car that three of my friends bought one although I had to rip an automatic out and grab the 2x4 trans, clutch, shifter with linkage etc from the junk yard for $75 bucks for one of them. Easiest conversion ever. Out of all my cars, including my Charger, 1968 GTO, etc, I wish I still had that Champ (a drunk rammed it while parked). So much fun, more practical, gas friendly, maintenance costs were non-existant and cop friendly, lol.
You missed the 2011 when the 392 came out along with major suspension changes as well as the major update in 2015
They went from 2010 right to the Hellcat. Whoops.
Funny how the 2000's models weren't making as much power as the ones in the early 70's. US manufacturers sure took a long time to adapt to emission laws.
PHMCarani yeah, shit happens! Since the SRT8, they started to make beasts again.
fuck the phony emissions laws thats all about a big push for carbon taxes(money/power grab)
Uhhhhh, NO! Emissions laws started WAY before carbon taxes were even thought of. Look at the pics from the 60's and 70's of the smog over L.A. compared to today! No comparison.
1:07 OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH DAMN!
3:02 I love how it says “now built to take a 5MPH impact” like it’s such a high speed
Back then I think it expensive to replace a bumper

Charger!
Plymouth Barracuda please
jdog42 It's the same thing!
jdog42 iii
The Barracuda started a couple years earlier with a different body style or two (non-fastback?). Maybe not enough to warrant an episode but it would've made a good Chrysler E-body combo episode.
Early Barracudas weren't pretty. But the '70 'Cuda had very similar styling as Challenger, and it was also an E body car as well. '71 Cuda is my all-time favorite, and sell at the auctions for millions. In 2014 a numbers matching 'Cuda convertible sold in Seattle for a whopping 3.5 mill, and set a record.
Um.. the Barracuda WAS a fastback...lol '64 was the first years...
I love the whine on the demon it sounds amazing
By far the 78 challenger is the best out of all them , just a real American beast, and one of the best automotive designs ever.
Wink, wink........
how can you live with yourself knowing they went from what the dodge challenger looked like in 1971 and then look at the 1978 model, looks awful
They scraped the charger too in these years, I wasn't born but my dad had one, Inline 4 and it was probably in the fuel crisis times
Late 60's and early 70's were the charger in it prime according to style
was produced in Japan I believe
Rebadged Mitsubishi, still a great car but I don't know why they called it a Challenger
I know
you guys deserve way more subs!
Out of all challenger models, as a Toyota enthusiasts I would like/love to have that extremely underrated 78’ challenger import. 😍😍😍😍 beautiful 2.7L 4 banger
Damn, the Demon is a *MONSTER!*
Overall was good, but missed a few details. “Ralley” is actually spelled “Rallye” and the Challenger script was never on the rear fenders like that. 1974 was also the 1st year for the 360 Motor. 2011 was the first year for the 392 (6.4) V8 and also went to the 3.6L V6. 2014 was the first year for the Shaker package on the Challenger R/T. 2015 has the Shaker and the Scat Pack available on both non-SC V8s (with or without Shaker) and 2017 was the first year for the revived T/A package.
2017 GT AWD as well
The Challenger script was on the quarter panel like that on 72 thru 74, it’s called a quarter panel not a rear fender.
Love this series, wished we could see different angles of the cars.
Such a high quality video well done
Awesome 😎 video ! Loved the engine sounds throughout 👌🏻 👍🏻
Excellent video. I especially appreciate what sounded like each individual model. Funny to go from a sputtering 4 banger to the supercharged whine/roar of the hellcat. My only suggestion is a 360 view of each car. Subscribed!
i own a 2008 SRT8 Challenger Hemi orange. such a fun car to drive in and always turning heads when cruising
Is that the car from Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

this channel is great keep going and I'm with to the success
1978 Challenger does`nt look like a Challenger
This was one of cars which has probably shown car industry was fucked at that time. We will probably never see such beatutiful cars like in 60s and 70s again :(.
COOLIFICATION HQ gas crisis made many cars shitty like the skylines (was still a nice car) and the mustangs ( the american muscle cars were hit hard) for example. Fuel crisis downgraded a lot of good cars
Killer553 I know man thanks to safety regulations and of course Liberals.
CJ Colvin why do you bring liberals into this they had nothing to do with it
Sad times
My favorite years were between 1983 and 2008. Oh wait...
That 25 year absence tho... for that reason alone i wont consider it on the levels of "prestige" as the Mustang and Camaro.
@@ClassOfSpriggs the Camaro was discontinued from 2002 to the 2010 model year, around the same time they introduced the LS3 engine for the Corvette, so I think the Mustang is the "prestige" car, also being the car that the Camaro, Challenger, and Charger were based on and were developed to compete with the Mustang. Mustang fan myself.
@@alm3257 yeah it skipped (one gen?) But it was worth it because it came back with a vengeance
@@ClassOfSpriggs yeah the Zl1 was really something, as with the recent 1le models, and I'm not against Camaros, I love them, but if you compare the 13-14 Gt500 to the Zl1, I really think the Shelby is better in many ways, as with the newer gt350R against the z/28 (Can't really compare the gt350R with the newer Zl1) but the 1le is pretty good. Can't wait for the 2019 Gt500, it will be announced and It's power and capabilities will be fully available to the public I think mid January 2019, and with over 700 WHP, while it won't be as powerful as the demon, will seriously be a real challenge to the the Zl1 and the demon, as there will be a drag focused one, and a track focused one. (the Hellcat will be really fucked up and the demon might lose its throne to the successor of the 14 Gt500.)
@@alm3257 eh to each their own ig but in terms of specs the Camaro has always been better since it's return

Keep up I love the video and I love challenger
on stereo speaker ,, that crispy rich engine sounds ,, Delicious ! specially the 2nd model , 1970 that might be the best thing about muscle cars in my opinion
I owned a '74 back in the late 90,s, which was the final year for the beloved E bodies and had the 318 and 727. Obviously that wasn't its best year, but it was still a nice example of an unrestored original with AC and was clean with some surface rust. But the interior was excellent and an all around good solid Mopar.
Awesome!
3:17 look how they massacred my boy
Fun video, really highlighted most of the more powerful variants. Couple things that have changed, though, is that they put a 305 hp 3.6L engine in the base model around 2011. Also the 392 (6.4L) was a special in 2011 IIRC and then put as the standard SRT8 motor, a year later in 2012. I believe introduced at 475 hp and tq and now at 485 hp for the 2017 model. Which is now in the higher end of the R/T line too (I want to say 2016). So you still have better options than 2009. I suppose it would make the video somewhat longer if all engine options were discussed :-3

4:11 sounds good if u imagine a nissan 350z not a challenger 😂😂
@Ian Abel nah not a true challenger, cars lost their souls after 1973

@@jaxyouwill dont be that rude with ur Z, aint deserve those words
3:53 reminds me of that one clip from Top gear: Hammond: "it's the new Camaro. It's got all-wheel independent suspension-" May: "Wooooow" Clarkson: "Can you imagine the designers at Dodge thinking; 'we have, like, four different wheels, what if we treat them independently?' Like, they've been doing in Europe for, 100 years?"
Very interesting, it is sad to see the decline of these amazing cars through the mid 70s to late 90s, but then to see their rebirths back to present day and returned once again to greatness.

1976-1982 were bleak times. In 1978 Car and Driver selected a Dodge pickup as the year's fastest car. The Lil Red Wagon's 360 made 225 hp; 40 more than the L82 Corvette (the 'hot' 350) allowing the Ram to run a 15.4 sec 1/4 mile, beating the Chevy by half a second. The new '79 Firebird Formula, equipped with a 305 cu in 4 bbl making 155 hp ran 16.7/84 with a 4 speed manual. (C/D magazine). Today, each of the big 3 can put you in a 12 second car for under 40 G's. These ARE the good old days. :))
