    • You have to remember you could only finance at 19% interest for 1 - 3 years maximum... 3 years was for wealthy people with perfect credit..19% interest was the normal back then,so that $23,000 - $30,000 car wasnt so cheap after all..Payments really took a chunk out of your check..Remember $1.25 per hour was the minimum wage !!! My Dad bought new cars from 1965 it cost him $26,000 for a Mercury Park Lane,not the top line either,was a decent trim line though..In 1967 Mom bought a Cougar GT 390 again $25,000 in todays money roughly ..In 1969 he bought a Charger RT in today's money it was $30,600..And he made good money being a business owner so he paid them off quick 1.5 years for the 67 and 69 and 2 years for the 1965..But no 4,5,6,7,8,9 year car loans at 0-5 % interest..You had 1 to 3 years to pay it off at 19 % !!! That was the rate for mortgages too 18 % - 21 % Prices were cheaper but the high lending rate screwed you over..Was good only if you had money in th bank as the interest on earnings were higher,but most didnt like today and you worked long hard hours too...Gas wasnt cheap either ,to the calculations gas is cheaper today than in the so called good old days !! People dont know this !

  • I owned the 1982 Mitsu Challenger and loved it. It had a 2.6L Hemi engine with a manual trans, good gas and room in the back seat that the newer Challengers do not have (great for USA to Canada hockey trips with people). Trunk was surprisingly nice too as my hockey gear fit inside nicely. It had some cool features for its time as well. I even liked the radio better than my buddy's Blaupuke which could not get the college radio stations that I listened to...and still do.

    @woolhat1@woolhat12 жыл бұрын
    • This is funny. I don't believe anyone actually calls the Mitsubishi 2.6L a "Hemi". I realize that technically, yes- it has a hemispherical cylinder head. But calling it a "Hemi" is suggesting that it is an evolution of a specific line of engines that are in a far different league. And I just gotta say, the last thing on my mind when buying a Challenger was how much room was in the back seat. Nobody is ever gonna sit back there. I have an SUV for more than two passengers. I'm sure the rebadged Galant was a nice, practical A to B car for it's day. But you don't put a legendary name on a car like that and think it will sit well with performance enthusiasts. It just doesn't belong in the lineage of the car. The Gen 3 model however, that's a proper Mopar muscle car through and through.

      @mcdingus5081@mcdingus50815 ай бұрын
    • @@mcdingus5081 My wife and two sons sat back there and my daughter sat up front. There is more room in the back than my friend's 1986 Camaro. We never could go to sporting events in his car nor that 1996 Mustang GT my other buddy regretted owning because quite a few times I had to drive him home from work because the snow grounded that car. Sorry using "Hemi" bothered you although it was not meant to be taken seriously. I will give you my favorite car so you have someting to jab at...the 1980 Plymouth Champ 8-speed (2x4) 1.6L that would take three of us hockey players from the USA to Canada and back. Room for hockey sticks, gear and my teammates and was better in bad weather. We had so much fun in that car that three of my friends bought one although I had to rip an automatic out and grab the 2x4 trans, clutch, shifter with linkage etc from the junk yard for $75 bucks for one of them. Easiest conversion ever. Out of all my cars, including my Charger, 1968 GTO, etc, I wish I still had that Champ (a drunk rammed it while parked). So much fun, more practical, gas friendly, maintenance costs were non-existant and cop friendly, lol.

Can't wait for the 2019 Gt500, it will be announced and It's power and capabilities will be fully available to the public I think mid January 2019, and with over 700 WHP, while it won't be as powerful as the demon, will seriously be a real challenge to the the Zl1 and the demon, as there will be a drag focused one, and a track focused one. • I owned a '74 back in the late 90,s, which was the final year for the beloved E bodies and had the 318 and 727. Obviously that wasn't its best year, but it was still a nice example of an unrestored original with AC and was clean with some surface rust. But the interior was excellent and an all around good solid Mopar.

  • Fun video, really highlighted most of the more powerful variants. Couple things that have changed, though, is that they put a 305 hp 3.6L engine in the base model around 2011. Also the 392 (6.4L) was a special in 2011 IIRC and then put as the standard SRT8 motor, a year later in 2012. I believe introduced at 475 hp and tq and now at 485 hp for the 2017 model. Which is now in the higher end of the R/T line too (I want to say 2016). So you still have better options than 2009. I suppose it would make the video somewhat longer if all engine options were discussed :-3

It's got all-wheel independent suspension-" May: "Wooooow" Clarkson: "Can you imagine the designers at Dodge thinking; 'we have, like, four different wheels, what if we treat them independently?' Like, they've been doing in Europe for, 100 years?"

  • 1976-1982 were bleak times. In 1978 Car and Driver selected a Dodge pickup as the year's fastest car. The Lil Red Wagon's 360 made 225 hp; 40 more than the L82 Corvette (the 'hot' 350) allowing the Ram to run a 15.4 sec 1/4 mile, beating the Chevy by half a second. The new '79 Firebird Formula, equipped with a 305 cu in 4 bbl making 155 hp ran 16.7/84 with a 4 speed manual. (C/D magazine). Today, each of the big 3 can put you in a 12 second car for under 40 G's. These ARE the good old days. :))
