King Charles: 1st monarch in 70 years to make debut on Canadian coin with 2023 Loonie

In 1953, the late Queen Elizabeth’s likeness made its debut on Canadian currency. Seventy years later, her recently crowned son, King Charles, is sharing the same milestone.
The Royal Canadian Mint unveiled a brand new 2023 Loonie on Tuesday, which features a portrait of the British monarch. The decision was made this year, after more than 350 artists and engravers submitted designs to the institution.
Effigy designer Steven Rosati - whose design was approved by Buckingham Palace - said he was honoured his design was chosen and that "King Charles' portrait couldn't have turned out better."

Here in Canada we will refuse to put any Iconic Canadians on our currency but we are quick to put the UK royals on our currency. These Royals do absolutely nothing for Canada. This also proves Canada is not an independent Country.

- His title is King of Canada. He is our head of state, I can't think of anybody more fitting. Canada is a completely independent country, we just share the same monarch with 15 other countries (which are all legally separate positions).

Crazy. Definitely costs way more than a dollar to make our fancy dollars. So in reality our money isn't worth the material its made from.

- I looked it up between 3 to 6 cents each when they switched to steel in 2012. A coin of course can circulate for 30 years as well.
